Minecraft Xbox Edition is a version of Minecraft for Xbox 360 consoles, announced at the 2011 E3 conference by Notch and Microsoft.

Objective and Gameplay

The objective of the game is similar to existing PC versions, where the player is allowed to build freely using blocks in a sandbox-like environment. The player will optionally[1] be able to make use of Xbox Kinect functionality to assist in their gameplay.[2]

Development

Notch has confirmed that he will be the game designer on the Xbox Edition, as well as the Pocket Edition, but will not be involved in programming these editions.[3] Notch later announced the team developing the game will be 4J studios.[4][5] Daniel Kaplan tweeted about receiving an early copy of Minecraft for Xbox on September 7th, 2011.[6]

Release

It is due for release in winter of 2011.[7][8]

Other Consoles

On the 14th of July, IGN sent several emails to Notch about the future of Minecraft. The last question Editor Charles Onyett asked Notch was about the future version for other consoles like the PS3 or Wii U. Notch's reply was "I have been instructed not to reply to this question, so here's a picture of a sheep instead" This answer leaves open the gap for future consoles as there have been no definite answers as to it been a permanent Xbox 360 exclusive.
