According to Jeb during an interview, Experience Points will be added as a new aspect of gameplay to Minecraft. The development of Experience is being undertaken by Notch. Experience can be obtained by gathering Experience Orbs from defeated mobs. Gathering experience points will increase the player's levels by gradually filling a bar on the bottom of the screen until a new level is achieved when the bar is full. Each level up will reward the player with Skill Points, which Notch has said may be used for buying things such as increased jump height and increased maximum health.

Jeb_ stated on Twitter that experience orbs will not be obtainable unless you kill the creature yourself, meaning grinders will not give you experience orb.

Water particles
if i look at water i can see "void" particles that appear and disapear quickly.

Seeds
-After putting a seed into the map creation screen on single player, the seed on the debug screen (opened when pressing F3) is completely different.

Lighting
*Trying to turn the Smooth Lighting off via 'Options' (from the title screen) results in a crash.

*Normal Light in bugged light areas underground

I found this lighting bug underground in a cave but when i dug some stone in the light bug, it changed to a bright light just like the original lighting outside.

Actually, that depends on your computer. That happens in 1.7.3 and earlier too. So, you need to free some space up.

Oh, okay then, I thought it was a bug because I was able to easily in 1.7.3, I mean, I had over 50 screenshots

Well it did say it could have been a bug. So it could be a bug maybe or it might just be your memory but I would still look in to see if it is just a bug.

*Cows not giving Milk

When walking up to a cow, and right clicking it with a bucket, it will not give you milk.

:Pre-existing Bugs

Since I can't edit the main page, there was an issue with my server having bad performance, upon loading the map in single player I was greeted with several hundred cows bringing my pc to a crawl and making the save unplayable on single or multiplayer, never had this issue with 1.7.3 or below

*Endermen kind of respond

If you walk up to an enderman and look at it, it will not teleport to you, only turn and stare at you while the black particles float around it.

:Non-Pre-existing Bugs

I have seen endermen alot in my server for 1.8 and they just stand around. You can look directly at them and they just turn around and look at you. The black teleportation particles float around him but he will only react when you hit him.

Sprite Bug
I wasn´t able to pick up planks which dropped on the ground after i closed the craftingtable. A single block remained, after I received all my other blocks.

>I had the same problem also. And my game crashed after those "unpickable" <insert crafting material here> remained on the ground. The only way to remove the problem currently would be to use a lava bucket.

>Same problem here, I tried to craft a pickaxe and the extra sticks that i had in the crafting area were impossible to pick up again after I closed the crafting table.

if you don't take the items out of the crafting grid before you close the inventory it causes the items to be stuck on the floor. Although you can pick up the items the sprites still remain until restarted the game.

*I to had the same problem, but it was with wood. Execpt If i dropped all my wood i got an infinite stack of wood.

I had this problem several times. It happens if you exit the crafting table with items still on it. The items then are picked up but ghost items are left. Note: the ghost items can be moved by placing blocks

*I had the same bug, but the block kept going back to me and was infinite,so i could pick it many times,it was with wood

Put any item in crafting table and press esc and it will drop item pick them up and if you keep right clicking it gives you more and more of that item

when i crefta eny thing and forget to clera my tabel i will drop all my items and i will collect them and 1 will be left on the floor an uncolectebul i dont know why this happens

by brian.warner

Sometimes the items you put into a crafting table fall to the ground and become un-pickupable.

attention this is a duplication bug, credit goes to Antvenom

It appears when you craft something, leave materials in the grid, and exit crafting, double the amount of items will drop on the ground. you can pick up half, but the other will stay there for for a long time. When you walk to these "ghost" versions of, you will pick up an unusable version of it, that you can not place/use. The items however will stay there still.

- catron44

The Problem with both the above is that the crafting inventory, upon close, reads the items twice while droping them. This bug can be solved easily by forcing the crafting table to clear out once it checked the item twice. Why it is checking the item twice, I wasn't able to find out.

The easiest solution is placing a clear item code (this.a.a(k,null);) after the code (line 50 of uf.class). However, the double reading is the real problem.

^^ i'm 99% sure that the item duplication bug and the extra sprites bug are connected. they are listed on the wiki. --Nl37tgt 17:56, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

Invisible Blocks
Cobble blocks turn invisible when placed beside cobble stair blocks.

Mushroom Bugs
- When two mushrooms are placed next to one another, they are both are destroyed, leaving the dropped versions on the ground. However any mushrooms next to the destroyed ones remain planted. This also rarely happens when the mushrooms are generated next to each other.

<br />- When there is a mushroom present next to a (possible only wood) block on the same level as the mushroom, removing the block sometimes causes the mushroom to be destroyed.

<br />-When there are 2 or more mushrooms generated next to one another (forming a row, square, etc), destroying one will cause a chain reaction, destroying mushrooms adjacent to the manually destroyed one, then destroying any mushrooms adjacent to those, and so on.

World Generation
Spawn Bug
* I've generated 5 1.8 worlds, in which my spawn locations have varied from the very edge of a high cliff side, on top of tress(3 times) and once on a lone island surrounded by a seeming never ending ocean.

Mine/Village/Stronghold bugs
*Abandoned mines are spawn too often and too large. (maybe they should be smaller or generate in different sizes or not)

^I think that a bug has caused mines to be either to big or to common. I have made several pre 1.8 worlds and dug down for about 3 mins to find one. Makes finding diamonds pointless because they're common in the chests. Also mines are also huge! I used about 7 stacks of torches lighting one! Is this a bug, or am I just lucky to find lots of 'em?

^No the they are Over generating. Using the X-ray texture pack I noticed that they where absolutely everywhere there must be some kind of bug that is causing them to over spawn. and they just seem to go on forever

^Yeah pretty much every ravine have its own abandoned mine system. Even if that is not bug, I think they are waaay too common, in contrast to strongholds which are waaaaay too rare. But on the other hand, chests inside are not that common anyways. And I have not got anything more valuable from them (only lapis, coal etc.).

*Stronghold not Generating Correctly

Underground strongholds seem to be generated before mineshafts. The result is often totally messed up strongholds because they are penetrated by random mineshafts.

- A group of 6 dirt blocks were floating about 30 blocks in the air.

^Floating block spawns are not usually bugs, and are quite common with some seeds.

*NPC Village - Doors at wrong level

If a building generated next to a hill or at the edge of a hill, the buildings door may be inaccessible. This village's prominent cobblestone building was inaccessible until we took out a window. This is probably also related to the other bug where village roads can be placed across this terrain awkwardly.

*In NPC Villages all houses' door's of one building are at the same level, so that you can't reach all from the ground. Also some steeps spawn in the gravel roads instead of on them, and uneven roads(one side is a block higher).

http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/31/20110909202825.png/

*Sometimes they villages be placed on the terrain but a cave will be in the middle of the village so parts of houses or roads will be incomplete or goofy-looking. Houses are sometimes above or below the terrain so that doors open into ground or mid-air. Roads don't always form properly so they appear to be just blocks placed at random heights in a line. *NPC Village generated doors and torches not behaving properly

*In NPC Villages, while on a SMP (Hamachi) the doors to some houses only open halfway, blocking the doorway from being used. will upload a picture as soon as i can. - Emperor_Nick(MC LOGIN)

*In some NPC villages, the gravel paths extend into areas well outside the actual village, seemingly leading to nowhere. Another glitch is where the gravel on the paths is placed at the wrong height. Sorry, i have no pictures at the moment. - burn_the_rope (MC LOGIN)

*In NPC villages, the torches doesnt always light up, and you have to replace them manually.

(Don´t know if its also like that for abandoned mineshafts, but i think its world-generated torches that doesnt always work)

*Ravines spawn underground, resulting in very large tall caves that spawn huge amounts of monsters. This also spawns in the same place as mines and dungeons, resulting in cobwebs and wooden arches and even monster spawners floating in mid-air.

*Spawned mines overlap one another, resulting in floating arches, broken tracks in pick-up-able form and large wooden platforms with chests on them.

Biome Bugs
*I have noticed that the Swamp Biome is much too frequent and i rarely ever see desert or Flatlands.

*Also the underwater land generates way too spotty and sometimes has gaping holes leading deep underground flooding countless caves!

*If you use bonemeal ne a mushroom you can make a big mushroom, Then if you plant a mushroom on the top of the mushroom you have already made and use bonemeal on that, when you break the second one you have made at the base it turns into dirt, instead of still being the top of a mushroom.

*Large mushrooms do not spawn naturally, there is no designated "Mushroom Biome".

*melons do not spawn naturally.

*Biome grass colors do not fade smoothly into another biome sometimes even multiple colors.

*ravines spawn too often, this also causes abandoned mines to float in mid air also.

General Multiplayer Bugs
General
In SMP, if a lot of experience was collected and the person dies and another person collects the experience of the other player, the server tends to lag very badly. The processor of the server goes to 100% and the server needs more RAM. Also you can see that in the client in 'F3' the graph is right at the top. Only when all of the experience was collected, the server goes back to a normal state.

experience orbs do not despawn or burn in lava, if a player with too many orbs dies, the server will lag immensley in the area of the experience orbs.

So far for me, the furnaces have been really glitchy. Almost everytime I use them, the game goes to the dirt screen and displays the saving chunks message.

When putting wooden planks, saplings, sticks or coal into a furnace in SSP, the game shows the 'Saving Chunks' screen, freezes, and crashes. When taking them out and the fire finishes is shows 'Saving Chunks' screen, freezes, and crashes.

^ I had this crash the first time I tried to smelt. I had coal already in the fuel slot of the furnace, and as soon as I put a sand block in the top slot (to make glass), the game went to the "Saving Chunks" screen, froze, and crashed. (Win7, SSP, world created fresh in 1.8) JonoXia 05:13, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

^^ I can also confirm this. For me, this occurred while using the furnace to convert wood(birch) into charcoal. The initial OutOfMemory/SavingChunks screen crash occured the moment the fuel (wooden planks) was placed in the furnace and upon loading the save, it crashed again when the fire "died out" in the furnace.

^can confirm with all wood-> charcoal smelting, regardless of the wood i use it sends me to the saving chunks screen.

In Single player, when I go to smelt anything, I get the 'Saving chunks' screen and then a black screen.

After closing minecraft and logging in again, the smelting is occuring, but after placing anything else in the furnace, there is a chance it crashes again (though not necessarily every time)

In single player when I am trying to drop only single pieces of wood from a stack into a furnace using right-click, it will crash and when I restart the stack will be gone but the furnace will act as if there is still one piece of wood in it. If I separate a smaller stack of wood in my inventory, say 4, the put it all in, when I restart the three pieces of wood not burning will remain in the furnace. Also when the stack of fuel (any type) is depleted it will crash again.

--- I restarted from a smelting crash and was making brick out of clay. I assume when the smelting was done my game crashed, as I was exploring a nearby ravine. I restarted when I could and found that the smelting was finished. Asarothem

--- Edit: I think it's when you start something burning in the furnace and when the flame dies out. My game crashes when fire dies or starts. Asarothem

---I was smelting sand in a vertical row but when I moved to the next row and put in coal, it would crash my game. When I relogged, it consumed my coal and was burning still

---It crashes every time I smelt, and sometimes just randomly. I don't know if it's connected. I'm by a ravine.

---Same issue here but it did not do this right away. All day I was cooking/smelting fine but now it will crash when the fire is just started or just burning out no matter what biom I am in.

---After the 'Saving Chunks' smelting crash, relogged, coal is gone, but the burning stays infinite?

---Crashes to 'Saving Chunks' if you right click multiple times in the fuel area of the furnace.

This bug is caused by the Furnace Tile Entity sometimes not registering the world it is located on. When it tries to check the world it's in, to check if playing in multiplayer or singleplayer, finds a null reference and crashes. This happens with anything you may place there, and I found it rather randomly (a friend of mine got it while I was near him, but on mine it never happened.)

The Chunk class (vx) is the only place where the world reference is placed (line 543).

Could be temporarily solved by, in the problem section(zz.class, TileEntity Furnace), placing a check for a null world before, and if so, fetch it from the Minecraft class current world. But the real problem (null reference) must come from somewhere else.

I have had this happen to me as well. On survival, I tried cooking some Raw Chicken with sticks for fuel. The game crashed by suddenly cutting to the Dirt Textured Background previously used in the menus, along with the Text "Saving Chunks" before the screen just cut to black. I restarted the game, I found the chicken cooking as it should, and I resumed my work until the game crashed again (I just decided to delete that world and not attempt this again). Since the User above asked, I should note that I've been running the Linux Version of Minecraft. Hope this helps in fixing this bug.

(this is the same person who made the first statement about logs) I think then it might be using planks as a fuel source because that was what I used for the logs.

-- i've tried planks, sticks, and logs as fuel to create charcoal from logs and still haven't duplicated the bug. --Nl37tgt 03:06, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

Same for me. Smelting in general seems to cause crashes.

---For me it just crashes if i put in cook or smeltable material first and then the coal or log. Then it chrases.

--- sometimes crashes happen randomly during smelting. I think it's only been during making logs into charcoal for me, though. Asarothem

----For me it seems to crash whenever the furnace starts or stops. Using Windows Vista.

----I made a stack of charcoal and smelted glass and iron ore with no problems.

*Abandoned mines are spawn too often and too large. (maybe they should be smaller or generate in different sizes or not)

Nether and Reed Bugs
*Placing leaves in the nether will crash the game from running out of memory.

*On some menus, light will effect brightness of the menu.

*On some servers, blocks in the Nether will not be able to be broken, and will re-appear immediately.

These are some bugs I found on the forums, and one from my gameplay.

*You can place reeds on sand near a source of water.

*Reeds spawn on sand.

General Crashes
* placing a birch sapling on sand block caused crash (single player)

* Tilling ground with stone hoe caused server to crash

* When fire starts when smelting in a furnace the game seems to Save Chunks and then crash

I keep getting a crash.

I had the often reported furnance crash (screen froze after putting coal in), but when I restarted and loaded the game, the whole shelter I built the last 15 minutes or so was reverted to the original small cave I I built it off: All blocks I destroyed or placed were back to original, all inventory I put in (incl. a chest with a lot of items) was gone. However, my inventory was the same as when the game froze.

----

I created a new world (SSP), chopped down some wood, but when I checked my inventory my PC crashed. Whole PC, not just Minecraft.

Item dropping, picking up, stacking bugs
*When in Survival mode, ghost blocks are generated. These appear after crafting and not removing the items from the table, they also appear in the inventory and can not be stacked. Placing an item over "ghost block" item in your inventory generates two ghost blocks, one attached to the mouse pointer, and another in the inventory window. These ghost blocks can be dropped infinitely. The only way to get rid of a ghost block is to place it somewhere on the map, then, and only then, will the item be removed from the inventory (the block is never actually placed on the map, it simply vanishes). So far I've only seen ghost blocks in the the inventory for wood planks. -- Nightwalker_007

(Iron ingots are also effected)

*When in creative mode, you cannot pickup objects while in flying mode

** some items when dropped cannot be picked back up

** some items when picked back up do not stack and become infinite (so it seems)

** when in a crafting menu and you escape with items still in the grid the items are duplicated and the duplicates can not be picked up

^^ i've been able to duplicate this bug. it has been added to the wiki. --Nl37tgt 03:59, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

*On SMP, when a player with a very large amount of experience orbs dies, it causes server and client lag so bad, the game is unplayable.

*I have another creative mode bug. Rightclicking an item more than once stacks it, but the counter never goes down.

*On SMP, when a player picks up a large amount of experience from the site of death, the orbs spiral around the player and never actually get absorbed. 71.193.150.100 07:38, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

*Sometimes when dropping a large amount of items and picking them up, they stay on the ground even in single player.

*Items sometimes duplicate in the inventory, not sure how.

*Both the above bugs I have on video: /watch?v=txQyKEK-EB8#t=110 (if it doesn't go directly to time, 1:50 is where these both happen)

*If items are left in the crafting table and then you exit the table and pick the items up, they leave a duplicate that cannot be picked up.

*When in creative mode you may drop an apple which will become infinite while still on the ground. Meaning that if you drop an apple it will keep giving you apples every time you come near enough to pick it up. But it does not disappear from the ground.

*Golden apples may have the same bug, I haven't checked yet.

*When mining Mossy/Cracked Stone Bricks, you just get StoneBricks (SSP/Tested with Stone/Iron Pickaxe)

*Killed sheep do not appear to drop the "lamb" (beige) meat that jeb tweeted pictures of.

*Chickens don't drop Feather (so I can't craft Arrows). It might not be a bug, but I see no proof of it being a feature. Amunak --85.207.24.79 22:22, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

Spawn bugs
-I spawned on a tree in survival mode. this is really unconvenient, so even if it's intentional, please fix it

Vine placement glitch
placing a vine on another vine will not do anything, but you will lose one vine

Classic Mode Arrows (bug?)
While you are in Classic mode Arrows are not infinite, i remember why before 1.8 but i think they should have fixed it for classic. (Of course this can be semi-fixed by shift-clicking)I am not sure if this is actually for SMP but it should be infinite in SSP.

Cave(/normal?) Spider Bug
When exploring a stronghold (in Creative), a spider jumped at me. After hitting it once, it jumped and was literally on top of me.

Bone meal bug
Bone meal doesn't work on pumpkin and melon seeds.

I don't believe it is meant to. Each melon gives 9 melon slices, which each heal one food segment, so having bone meal would allow for a full food segment regeneration per melon (I am not sure on the exact number). I don't believe Notch would have made it that easy and so did it purposefully, however I might be wrong just the same!

^ You can do the same with wheat, just that you need little more seeds and bones. I don't think that is the issue.

Mob Bug
-Over 1500 entities can spawn at once, causing game to have severe lag.

^

|~~combined with this bug my entities won't despawn aswell, also i've seen passive mobs spawn at night.~~

-Creeper blows up killing me, but I still see the creeper model walking around my death point.

58.96.55.124 03:12, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

-Mobs spawn in light at night, mostly skeletons.

-Fighting spiders underwater can cause them to get caught on a block and stay there for a few seconds.

-Pigs appear orange at close sharp angles when walking beside them.

-Spider dropped an ender pearl

-Blocking a spider jocky arrow causes "Saving Chunks" error. When reloded spider

jocky disappers from world.

-No F3 trick allowing you to see mobs from a distance by their numbers (Answer: I believe Notch intended for that to happen)<br />

^<br />

|<br />

thats a good thing. that was a bug being REMOVED. we shall report NEW bugs here, not complain that we cant cheat anymore

-Mobs can spawn in the trees

-You can hit skeletons through wooden planks in creative mode with diamond sword.

-Mobs can be hit from great distances.

-You cannot hold the mouse button to continuosly hit mobs.

-Skeletons sometimes freeze and only move towards the player when the player moves away from the skeleton. Also, if the skeleton is frozen and fires an arrow, if the player is close enough the skeleton will hit itself with the arrow instead.

-Mobs continously flash black or even stay black

Endermen Bugs
-Enderman sounds like a zombie.

-- seems to be a placeholder

-Endermen catch fire in sunlight like Skeletons and Zombies despite not being "undead".

-Endermen are hurt and die when they are touched by rain

|

|

|

Endermen are supposed to be hurt by water,

I saw one jump in water and die

-If the player is far away (but still close enough to see the Enderman,) looking directly at the Enderman doesn't seem to make it hostile.

^ it seems endermen have a set aggro range of around 25 blocks, not really a bug. --Nl37tgt 03:56, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

-Endermen all fall down and die in rain, without making any attempt whatsoever to get under cover or in a cave. They just stand there and take the death as if nothing were happening. Is this supposed to happen?

^ yes, water kills Endermen. so presumably, rain should kill them as well. --Nl37tgt 03:56, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

-If an Endermen looks at you while your cursor is on it, you can punch and damage it even if it would normally be out of range.

-In creative mode having you back to a wall while an Enderman is running towards you causes him to vanish.

-Sometimes endermen will not continue to teleport to you and run towards you. Only happened once to me and I was in the middle of an ocean - he teleported to the edge of the land and did not advance until I came a closer. This could be intentional. Also have this on video (Answer: That's because Endermen die in water, they can't be fooled that easily.)

-The Enderman seems to stares at you but, when you turn away and you have the enderpearl equipped the Enderman teleports randomly and dramatically in different places. He is like on steroids!!!

- Enderman will not react to player looking at them in SMP. They will only turn hostile if you attack them.

^ Same bug in Mac OS 10.6 here. Server + client are both on same computer. 50.40.247.229 17:31, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

- When an Enderman attacks you when you are with your back against the wall, he can teleport inside that wall and die.

- When you equip the Enderman Pearl onto the Enderman nothing happens.

- If you try to attack an Enderman through an open door nothing happens.

- Endermen can follow you while they're on the ground, but can't seem to teleport to certain heights (I was about 10 blocks high and he tried teleporting to me, but just fell to the ground).

- Endermen do not react to being looked at in SMP

-Endermen wont teleport if ure under 2 blocks (cause they are 3 block high and cant move i think?)

^That's of course intentional, it makes sense that a 3-block high mob can't walk into a 2-block high room.

-Endermen pick up all blocks including bedrock

-An Enderman does not become hostile from looking at it, but it can still attack you if you attack it first!

-Enderman will attack if you charge a bow while looking at them.

-I you star at an Enderman while running at it and then look away it will teleport away and disappear without a trace.

-An change to the Enderman skin in minecrfat.jar such as I only changes eye color I caused the enderman to turn into a blank white Enderman figure.

^Not sure what the above means, but the Enderman's eyes are in a seperate image called Enderman_Eyes.png

Minecart with Chest Bug
- Minecarts with the chest have the chest "hanging" off in the corner of the minecart.

^^ got that one earlier today. --Nl37tgt 03:58, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

- May not be much of a concern, but the chest does not open with the Minecart with Chest when right clicked. (This is Scorpini, chests in the minecart with chest open for me, I don't know why it's happening to you.)

Lighting Bug
^^when in a cave, looking into the darkness, the screen flashes and looks like an xray pack for a split second (can someone check this? it might only work for my but i duno) (settings fast, short, max lighting, peaceful, max fps)

-Your arm may go black or the wrong shade of brightness when you face a certain direction in relation to a torch; sometimes it's fine, sometimes it's a bit wrong, and sometimes it's almost solid black. When I rotated, the arm quickly swapped between shades.

-Torches do not give off a warm glow as it was said they would. Rather, they give off a white light whilst only sunlight gives off the warm glow. I believe it should be the other way around? Also - I'm not sure if this is a bug or not but I find it odd that lava doesn't give off a warm glow. Mac OSX and Windows

^I'm not getting this--CrizBN 17:09, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

-In creative (and possibly survival), all blocks remain lit as if it is daytime when you switch to night, except mobs which appear as darkened/black sillhouettes against the bright terrain. As a side-effect, surface-exposed caves receive the orange lighting effect from the sun rather than the blue moonlight. Screenshots: http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f107/GoodWhaleSushi2008/Post-2011/2011-09-10_120028.png and http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f107/GoodWhaleSushi2008/Post-2011/2011-09-10_120049.png - Mac OSX

-More screenshots of the above problem: Fire giving off moonlight? - http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f107/GoodWhaleSushi2008/Post-2011/2011-09-10_151207.png - White torch light - http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f107/GoodWhaleSushi2008/Post-2011/2011-09-10_151600.png - Time of day does not affect lighting of the map - http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f107/GoodWhaleSushi2008/Post-2011/2011-09-10_151048.png (Mac OSX)

-At night when the light turns blue, the side of dirt/grass does not turn blue therefore leaving the top blue and the side normally lighted

-When lava generates lighting sometimes does not render.

-Sometimes on world load corners of rooms will be in shadow, even if there are torches nearby.

-Blocks nearer to a torch appear white/blue, whilst blocks farther away from the torch appear warmly coloured (not same as bug described above.)

-I think the lighting sources are mixed up - setting stuff on fire with the flint and steel produced a blue light, instead of a warm light. Aside from that, torches produce a white glow instead of a warm glow. Mac OSX

-Placing a torch underwater, the water then destroys the torch, but there is still lighting left for where the torch was.

-The lighting on the lowest step of the new stairs (stone brick and brick) is extremely dark regardless of surrounding light conditions.

- (Mac OSX) when loading an old world in 1.8, some chests appear as all black (as if entirely unlit). Fixed by destroying then replacing chest, or by placing a torch near the chest to light it (fixed upon removal of torch) Same on Windows XP

- Placed chests sometimes turn black when looked directly at and sometimes don't, sometimes are flashing black and normal.(Windows 7)

- I also have the problem where my chest sometimes turns black, or flashes between black and normal. There isn't any particular action that seems to cause it. (Win7, SSP, world created fresh with 1.8) JonoXia 05:11, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

- Stone blocks, when starting to get darker when away from a torch, seem to be stained yellow and looks very irritating on the eyes.

- Torches placed inside a small house will light the outside of the wooden planks as well as the inside.

-some paintings have turned black. (windows vista)

- Wolves are black.

-pregenerated torches sometimes dont give light

- the toggle mode between old lighting and new lighting is not working 100%, all it does is remove the SSAO in most cases (the shadows in corners of blocks)

- Placing a torch on the block behind where the lid opens can cause the chest lid to be stuck open with floating torches on it.

- Repeaters when placed next to a block to the west side of the block, don't lit properly. http://i.minus.com/ib0TBF8etrQVDV.png

- Torches when placed underwater will break; however, the warm light they emit will still exist. Useful for saving torches on underwater exploration.

- Chests go black same as players arm (at certain angles)

-Mobs have black sides similar to players arm at a certain angle

-Pictures will turn black if placed under a block.

-i have encountered a glitch where glowstone placed underwater also still emits light, after it is destroyed.

-I've noticed that in SMP, if player A places a torch down, Player B can not see light generated by the torch. This also works vice versa.

-Light generated from Lava behaves oddly when gravel is placed and falls into the lava.

-if you set a Pig on fire, the flames coming from his body do not emit any light.

-Putting something in a furnace and causing it to light up causes crash (may be just Mac OSX)

-Lighting does not illuminate correctly through window panes. The pattern of light on the blocks is disproportional to the window. 70.22.206.37 20:50, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

-Placing a torch outside of water while standing in water then removing the torch causes the light to be permanent.

-While furnaces emit a warm light when in use, the block itself appears blue-ish

-Mushrooms seem to be radioactive since they can glow in the dark (only affects the block directly underneath and any block the would be directly next to the mushroom block).

lighting change crash
-game closes abruptly after turning off smooth lighting in the menu from the main screen.

Creative Mode Despawn Glitch
When in Creative mode items (and possibly entities in general) never despawn, causing extremely low framerate.

96.231.223.57 04:18, 10 September 2011 (UTC) -- i have noticed this very much as well, the longer you play creative, the laggier it gets :(

No Light Glitch
-When facing certain directions in creative, The character looks completely dark as if he is in an unlit cave.

-Under some blocks in SMP (and SSP?) it is comepletely dark, when you are standing in it, your character turns completely black.

-When mining under gravel, the newly empty blocks do not always update their lighting, leaving darkness behind.

-Redstone repeaters both on and off are are dark on the top.

Changing Between Worlds
When you change between worlds, when starting, the last item you used in your previous world remains until the world loads.

Creative mode maps
pretty minor, but maps put into inventory from the item palette are always centered on the spawn. (always spawning map_0?)

::I noticed the map_0 bug during 1.7_3 as well.

*Maps don't render anything (sometimes) - they're just blank.

*dead scrubs and cactus generated wrong they dissapear after a few minutes( http://imgur.com/a/VWiFf )

Mushroom Breaking Glitch
When another block goes next to a mushroom(like Cactus) it breaks. This does not seem to be affecting mushrooms that spawned when the world generated, and it makes the spread of mushrooms difficult. Farming is also very hard now.

Fence Gates
You can only open Fence Gates with a right click, left clicking will not work

:^ Has this been confirmed in survival or creative mode? I can confirm that left clicking a fence in creative mode will only destroy it, but I can only assume that left clicking in survival mode should open it.

It has definitively been confirmed in Survival, that's the mode I found it in.

Fence Gates do not react to redstone in any way (may not be a glitch, but it seems strange).

:^Not really a glitch, as code for the redstone interaction with a block is absent in the Fence Gate Block class (abo.class). Also, the reason why the Fence Gate does not open with left click is because, unlike the door and trapdoor, the code for hitting the block has not been overriden by the right-click one.

If you place a fence gate and place fence around it, the gate does not rotate, but it and the fence around it act as if it is rotated. Can also happen after the surrounding fence has been placed.

When closed, fence gates make both an opening and a closing sound.

Time Warp (F6, F7) Keys
- Time should return to normal faster when you let go the F6/F7 key.

- Time control with the F6/F7 keys shouldn't work in survival mode

- Upon exiting and re-entering a world, the time is set to what it would normaly be (ie, as if it was not manupulated with F6/F7)

-When time warp is used, sun and moon dissapear. As stated above, this also messes up the normal time rate. However, it seems to never revert to normal. The key can be let go but time keeps spinning at the same rate.

-When using those keys it does not change the weather

-Time continues to acceleration even after F6 or F7 have been released.

-As stated above, time continues to accelerate after F6 or F7 have been released, but it appears the longer F6 or F7 has been held down the longer the acceleration lasts after releasing the button.

-Occasionally when using the Time Warp function and stopping as the sun rises or as the moon sets, time will reverse for a short while. (I.E. Stopping the F6 function as the sun rises, the sun will set)

-Occasionally when time reverses and say the sun sets just after rising using F6, the moon will not rise.

Hunger Bar, EXP Bar
* The Hunger and EXP bar do not seem to always be generated when creating a new world, and only some new worlds do not have these functions. (edit: did you have creative mode on?)

* The hunger bar sometimes does not go down (if you have eaten recently enough, or are on peaceful, the hunger bar will not go down)

^ This seems to be intentional, as you cannot lose any hunger idling. The hunger bar only goes down when jumping or sprinting, and perhaps very slowly when walking. When you eat something, it will stop "shaking" (unless you get food poisoning from eating rotten flesh or raw meat) and you won't lose hunger for a while no matter what. If this were a bug, then under normal circumstances you would be required to eat much too often.

* Sometimes the hunger bar moves up and down without any reason.

* Killing too many mobs, like 60+ and collecting all the exp from them. Upon death, all the orbs drop at once and will cause amazing lag.

^ This can easily bring multiplayer servers down, because the amount of experience orbs is just insane.

* I literally ate 24 Pieces of Cooked Pork Chop No joke, My hunger bar wasn't full and I wasn't regaining health. You Really need to fix this bug!

* The hunger bar continues to consume itself when the game is paused at the menu. Nothing else is active during this time but the hunger bar. Might only happen when you have not ate in awhile and the bar is shaking before pausing.

List of bugs
When render distance set to far there is still fog if set the medium (blue fog will appear on any render setting in a ravine though)

If you change (nearly any) option in Video Settings from the main menu, the game will crash.

<s>The sun looks AWFUL when you look at it from underwater.</s>(Not a bug.)

The game will crash giving you no reason for the crash. <But it saves

Mobs still spawn inside your house when you use beds

If you press F5 go partway underwater with creative mode, theres a weird water glitch.

Iron door is two colors, maybe a lighting problem with torches.

Half of NCP villages have modified roofs and parts.

You can only rotate the view in a 180 angle on linux. It happen only when i defocus from the minecraft main window.

Apart from the water bug above, when jumping up in water there appears to be a strange border in the background which will flash back and fourth while jumping.

:^^I can confirm this.

If the render distance is set to normal or far, it will be between normal and short below layer 28.

While in a mine shaft, rapidly and repeatedly trying to place a torch on a stone block located next to gravel will sometimes turn the stone block into a block of gravel.

While charging a bow, if you press the left mouse button, when the arrow is fired, it automatically sends off a melee hit as well.

<s>No matter what the render distance is, it is still laggy as crap (I usually get 40 - 60 fps and now I get 2 - 15)</s>(Not a bug, it's probably a bug that has to do with entities, or your computer.)

When I was standing inside my house (that had a roof) while it was raining I was struck by lightning.

:^ Someone else has also reported seeing rain underground. Although your report is quite humorous.

Tundra biomes do still generate, but they generate with no snow, and it does not snow there. (I spawned in a Tundra biome in my first 1.8 pre-release world. I could tell by the grass color.)

96.231.223.57 04:16, 10 September 2011 (UTC) on OSX there is considerably more lag than usual, and when lagging a lot in creative it is impossible to go into fly mode no matter how many times you press the space bar

Trees generated over water
I have encountered small pond (with squids...) with some trees above it without any dirt below wood, just as the trees where generated first and pond added later, also trees in water

^This is supposed to be a swamp not a bug - Antho3000

^Trees are few blocks above water not touching it - hanging in air. I made a screenshot so I can show it, map seed was 21, but I forgot where it was.

http://imgur.com/RPHHH.png

^this is an OLD bug NOT related to 1.8 its how the map generates terrain.. FIRST it spawns the ground layer.. THEN tree.. THEN after all that places the random ponds by "removing" any surrounding blocks when generating the pond.. including any tree trunks in the way.

This causes the floating tree syndrome around "ponds" to be quite common even in 1.7

Full sleep animation occurs when getting into bed, but still wake up in the middle of night, although there are no mobs around and the place is fully lit.

When Sleeping, the night is not skipped.

:This sometimes happens. It was a glitch before 1.8. &#124; JSan 01:28, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

- I'm not sure if this is actually a bug, but I closed off my house, lit it up, cleared space, etc., and when I died it gave me an error that said by bed was blocked or had disappeared. Maybe I didn't notice something, but i completely cleared it and closed it off, so it makes no sense

-beds in a corner have tp me to the nearest open space not in side of my house.

-bed doesn't work for me, neither sets the spawn point nor skips the night in survival

-While the sleep animation is occurring (i.e. while the player is on the bed), when you move the mouse, the billboard textures (e.g. the torches' fire effect) spin as if the camera was spinning (but the camera doesn't spin).

-Had an occurrence where I went to sleep, It turned day but I couldn't leave the bed and was stuck on the chat screen (SMP), giving me no alternative but to reconnect.

-when sleeping in a bed right next to a wall you wake up are on the other side of the wall (singleplayer)

-If W is double-tapped in bed, it will cause the same effect as running

Gravel Roads for Villages broken by terrain
Gravel roads may fall down into caves, sink into the ocean, or be impassable by going up a hill.

----

If there is cave below village gravel roads may fall down into it leaving deep holes in a middle of a road.

Moreover villages could be generated half way into ocean, so some buildings are inaccessible standing in the middle of water.

Seed:21 : x: 27 | y: 64 | z: 283

An example of the gravel sinking into a cave is at coordinates x = -662, y = 65, z = 116 in the seed 5482948496661470826. (screenshot)

To prevent this, when the game puts the gravel roads in villages, it should probably place a dirt block or something under each gravel block (doesn't it already create a floor of non-falling blocks under oceans to make sure they don't flood any caverns that may be under them?)

Creative Mode Mob bug
You can hit any mob at any distance, and through objects.

--Mob Spawners--

In creative mode, windows 7 64bit, cmp (only one player though, but in a server), mob spawners are broken in one hit and the flame/particle effect remains.

Missing block crushing texture
When you destroy some blocks around without leaving your mouse button point to the block below you and it will be crushed without animation-pattern of crushing. If you start mining from block below you there will be animation as usual. Chest Blocks also have no crushing animation.

EDIT: I can confirm this. It happens in both the Real world and the Nether.

EDIT: Not only can I confirm this, but its not just planks. It seems to be any item

Unlimited Planks Glitch
There is a glitch that happens when you are crafting, keep planks in the bench, then press escape. It drops the planks, but all the planks become unlimited.

Also, the planks duplicate when you try to move them in your inventory or in a chest.

note: this doesn't just happen with planks

Also escaping out of a loaded workbench often creates objects that can't be picked up, or items in your inventory that can't be utilized.

Creative Mode Inventory Bugs
There are some missing items in the Item Selection screen in the new Creative Mode:

-Bonemeal

-Jack O' Lantern

-Grass

-Birch/Redwood Saplings

-Snow (the thin Layer, not the block)

-All 16 dyes (including Lapis Lazuli, Cocoa Beans and Bone Meal)

Opening the Inventory on Creative Mode shows the Item Selection screen, but using a furnace/dispenser/crafting table still shows the normal 36 slotted inventory. Items picked up that don't fit in the hotbar go into the normal 36 slot inventory. The creative mode should still have a normal inventory and the item selection screen should be binded to a different key.

:cracked and mossy versions of stone brick are missing. We should also have water and lava sources.

The inventory selection doesn't need its own key but you should still be able to access your regular inventory, however a separate key would be acceptable.Sven The Slayer 04:04, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

ADD:

Buckets not are infinite, if you use one of that, you have to take it again.

ADD: There are no dyes for wool in the item selection.

ADD: When you click on a colored wool in the inventory screen in creative mode, then click on a different color, it will add one of the first color you clicked to the stack you are holding.

ADD: When you make a new creative world, and open up your inventory, if you click on the leave's it crash's your game with "Saving Chunks"

--Surface Lava Burning Forests--

Sorry, i don't have a screenshot, however i have generated two CMP servers, and in each i flew around a bit looking for a nice spot to build a town and came across surface lava in pine forests that was lighting the pine forest on fire and burning everything down... at the time i thought it was a good thing, as i wanted the shape of the pine forest, but didn't want all the trees :P i will check back here every now and then in case anyone has anything to say about this bug/glitch.

^^^a small update on this... i did some further researching into this, and mine was definitely NOT in the swamp biome (all pine forest around it), however it seems it COULD be related to the glitch where trees have been spawning in the air ABOVE the water as reported in swamp biomes. because in one of the worlds i generated (unsure about the other one) the reason it all started catching on fire, was that there was a tree floating just above the lava. maybe the tree spawned in the lava as in a swamp and it was half burnt before i saw it?

^^^^^^ summary ^^^^^^^ dear notch/jeb, i have seen whole pine forests burn down due to proximity of surface lava. possible cause = trees spawning in the water in the swamp, as trees spawned in the lava, thus creating pyrotechnics.

^^^^^^SOLUTION (possible): make sure that trees cannot spawn in lava due to swamp code.

-the "natural circle rooms" rarely seen in mines now spawn at surface level. I have found 3 in my new map so far. -DFStormbringer

Terrain/Structure Generation
-If a if a ravine is generated through a mineshaft, the wooden supports will not be removed and will stay in mid-air.

- Most biomes are way too flat and boring now. Most biomes should be a bit hilly, something in between the current flat land and the mountain biome. (especially redwood forests)

- Mountain biomes look ugly in most cases. They are just weird instead of epic.

- Swamps are FAR too common, while snow biomes seems to be gone completely.

- Ravines should only rarely scrape the surface. It is epic to find one in a rare occasion, but this happens far too often currently. Most ravines should just be underground.

-Grass sometimes is found underground and in deep ravines, where there is no sunlight reaching it.

*Caves generated next to water tiles will cause the tiles to act like it's against an invisible barrier (until the block underneath is destroyed). Here's the seed for anyone who is curious (the area in question is roughly west of the spawn point): -6743719744670282458 DNEA 02:40, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

-Sometimes in Survival Mode the colored lighting won't render right and ends up really weird looking.

-Mineshaft wooden supports sometimes generate midair when entering a cave.

-Water and Lava collision creating obsidian is not as it was, a single line of obsidian is created in a natural cave with remaining water floating on top of lava.

*Cacti generated in multiplayer do not generate properly (ie, they float in mid-air)

:- Also can spawn in as invisible (SMP, WINDOWS 7)

- Generated a few maps and explored a lot, and have not found a single red flower?

-When entering a large cave, joined to a dungeon, you will see mob spawners, arches of wood, and chests floating about midair. (Admittedly it is quite funny to see everything plunging to it's death). I would provide screenshots but I fell in lava and can't find it anymore. :(

-Abandoned mineshafts generate far too frequently to be considered 'rare', i generated a few worlds and used map renderers to look at the cave generation and in a 1000000 (1 million) square block area there were far more abandoned mineshafts then natural caves, a proportion i'd say of about 60:40 (mineshafts:caves) I only generated 3 worlds as generating 1000000 square blocks takes a while, but this was the same for all three worlds.

- Yes I'd have to agree with this one, too many mine shafts, they are every where, I'd like it if they where very rare like dungeons. also due to the high number of mine shafts I've seen many that generate through each other. Please make mine shafts rarer. Right now they are a nuance rather then a rare find.

-In one of the 1000000 (1 million) square plots there were no npc villages and in all three there were no snow biomes (taiga or tundra).

- I found a mineshaft in water. So i assumed it was a bug.

- Sometimes in mineshafts the rails "spawn" with no Block behind.

- There are no red flowers in the whole created terrain. Only yellow ones.

:^ I think what he means is that while in creative mode, using a bucket of water will cause the bucket in your inventory to be empty. This would be expected in survival mode, but not in creative mode. I believe other consumable/one use items in creative mode behave the same way. This has been confirmed for arrows too. This is probably not a bug, but I'm sure players will want to have unlimited use items in creative mode.

-Doesn't happen all the time, in my client I got flooded with pigs and chickens on peaceful. The despawn rates are bugged, but I don't think the spawn rates are...

- had similar problem whenever I make a new world where ever i walk there's a pig a chicken or a cow and on creative mode all that spawns for me is chickens and endermen (nightime)

- I had a similar problem where only wolves spawned, no other mobs.

- It seems that when starting surrounded by the ocean biome, no peaceful mobs generated, but when starting not in the ocean biome, things worked properly.

but making tools the main thing that dupes any type of tool you dupe only has one use so diamond axe only gets one block so its practicably made on last block to destroy but still can be useful. and you only need to hit E once or esc

When hitting the minecart(in it and out of it) I could not hold down the left mouse button but had to hit it over and over. not sure if it's a bug or not

^ This happens whenever i have my fists active, it will hit multiple times on a block eg. tall grass or dirt, but not in the air. Bug: Stone blocks destroyed by a wooden pickaxe turn into Iron ore immediately after being destroyed. Stone blocks drop cobblestone before turning into Iron ore. If you destroy the Iron ore you will receive the drop. If Iron ore is left alone it will disappear after a few seconds.

How to replicate: Destroy a stone block with a wooden pickaxe.

Pillaring Gone
You can no longer pillar, (and by that I mean jump and place a block under you)

:This may be intentional, but isn't confirmed as such.

^ Pillaring requires that you carefully time a click for each block now, holding right quick to pillar quickly no longer works.

^ I am definitely able to pillar still, by timing my clicks. (Win 7, SSP) JonoXia 05:06, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

^ I have video proof that I can still pillar as I made a house earlier today while Lets Play'ing 1.8

^ I just tried pillaring by holding right click and it is indeed gone, probably related to the combat change (can no longer hold left click to attack) and possibly intentional - Fishy

^ It seems to have changed a little but yes it is possible to pillar in 1.8

Server IP text deletes itself
When typing a IP into the server box. The text deleted itself after I switched to fullscreen

^

it is a bug but its been out since early alpha also easier way to put in IP without worrying about that would be to hold Ctrl and hit v making it paste whatever copied from any-time

Arrow angle bug
Occasionally when you shoot arrows into the sky they come back down at drastically different angles. I have noticed 0° equating to 45°. Qata 03:16, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

:^So you mean to say that after shooting an arrow straight up into the air, it may possibly fall back down at a 45 degree angle? Just confirming that last sentence, it didn't sound right.

:^I did tests of this and never found the arrows redirecting any more than about 5 degrees after shooting straight up, so this might be related to other circumstances

Sprinting
Holding a sword, you can double right-click and start sprinting.

:^ I'm also experiencing this when I double right-click. It's not a major problem, but the zooming in and out can get annoying.

:^ I didn't get this bug. All that happens when you right click is that your sword raises into a blocking position.

::^when right clicking (shield) it doesn't block for skeleton/creeper <--- no duh/ zombie

but it does block spiders and endermen and sprinting then clicking right very fast causes you to deal damage (sometimes only happened once during the day) and no there was no explosion behind me...

:::^also if running in (f5) your hunger bar doesn't ever go down causing inft sprint

:::: on my laptop I cannot successfully sprint, it may be hardware related, or the game just not detecting my double tap. I also have trouble entering fly mode for the same reason Sven The Slayer 03:52, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

:::::^ Same thing happened to me, probably caused by the severe lag.

::::::^^ I notice that the double tapping is very sensitive to timing especially with flying, it still takes me a few times to get in the air due to a strange lag when double tapping the space bar without putting a pause inbetween --Rmcsherry19327 18:02, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

(im new to this)

You can sprint forever if you jump a lot while sprinting, ignoring the set timer.

Sprinting over stairs will stop sprinting.

While pressing W, double tapping Shift will make you start sprinting.

While sprinting on leave blocks the grey particles (instead of green) appear.

If you sprint into water and then continue holding up arrow while swimming, when you attack an animal in this situation the animal will be launched as if you were sprinting while attacking them.

If you sink to the bottom of an ocean you can start sprinting on the ocean floor and continue sprint-swimming even when not on the floor anymore

Doors in SMP
When a door is right clicked by a player, by using only their hand, the door will not emit any sound when opening or closing, and the arm movement animation will not play.

+1 confirm from 4 people, it's REALLY bugging me D: I like the door noises and I always right click doors/levers/buttons/chests :/

- Probably it is just my PC, but it never happened to me before, only on 1.8, when left-clicking the door, a screen freezing for 0.5 plays.

It also happens to me. --Griffrez 17:43, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

-If you try to perform a critical hit on another character, even when PvP is off, the effect still shows.

- In SMP 1.8_prerelease I would fall and continue falling through the map, till it looped back around and I saw land again.. and I kept falling . I saw what appeared to be the star field scrolling by really fast, but never hit the end of the world for some reason. In SMP 1.7.3 I would also fall a little, but only take a small amount of damage before the server figured it out. I suspect this has to do with the client initiating a fall before the terrain data is loaded underfoot, making appropriate sanity checks. -- Nightwalker_007

^ I have had the same issue and got it on video, won't post it atm because its easy to reproduce as long as you have a long ocean that disappears in the distance

Vines Difficult To Place
You can't place a vine adjacent to another vine (ex: dangling below), despite the fact that they generate this way naturally in swamp biomes. It requires a surface to be placed against.

:If you place it on the block it will grow downwards naturally...also upwards.

Chunks cause lag
Currently running a test 1.8 server on Ubuntu 11.04 Server also happens during a 1.8smp for windows. Experiencing a problem when walking into some chunks will cause the server to lag and spam the console with "[WARNING] Can't keep up! Did the system time change, or is the server overloaded?" Leaving the chunks corrects the error until someone walks into them again. --Conando 04:22, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

you can burn any type of wood except ladders 58.96.55.124 04:33, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

That's intended (see Furnace.) However, it's kind of a weird inconsistency that ladders can't be burned, and I think they should be burnable. As for fence gates, they can be burned, but the game gives the "saving chunks" message and crashes, the same as it does if you burn sticks.

ETA: Sometimes, instead of crashing, the furnace works correctly, but when it lights and when it goes out, Minecraft sends a message to the console that says "Attempted to place a tile entity where there was no entity tile!"

Putting clay in a furnace will cause the game to crash

infinite fuel glitch
a single plank lasts forever in a furnace.

^ This will happen to me on Mac. If I place a stick in the furnace, the game will crash, and when I load the map again, the stick acts as infinite fuel. It will crash again if I take it out, but will make the furnace stop. - Addam 08:18, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

SMP Nether Bug
When entering a nether portal in SMP, upon entering the nether I got an "end of stream" error although the server remained active. Logging in two additional times produced the same error. Upon the third login I spawned successfully in the nether. After this point netherrack could be destroyed but acted as though it were still present when attempting to move through mined blocks (e.g. walking into an invisible wall).

Edit: Everything you have placed in the nether will be there forever. If I would place a house I can not delete it because once a block is placed it cannot be undone, same as all of the netherrack and other biome generation stuff from the nether.

On the achievements screen, most (but not all) of the achievements appear as already having been achieved, even though I just started a game and haven't done any of them yet. Also, after scrolling around the achievement screen for a while using the mouse drag, it suddenly locked in place and stopped responding to further mouse drags. I couldn't scroll in any direction. I was able to click the button to close it. After re-opening it, scroll worked normally again. (Win7, SSP, world created in 1.8) JonoXia 05:17, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

Seed glitch?
Sometimes ill go to random places iv never been and i have no modded clients and it will have random seeds on the ground.

*Similar glitch where placing torches down on grass during night in SMP will cause Tall Grass to grow around torch, acting like bone meal.

I've seen random seed around too but I think its due to Tall grass generating on non-grass blocks(gravel, stone, dirt, sand, even air sometimes too.)

Load world glitch
After death if you click "title menu" instead of "respawn" the world will save and exit to the main menu. If you attempt to reload the world by double-clicking the world instead of clicking "play selected world" the game begins to load then drops back to the main menu. (no crash log available Windows 7, Survival SP) 05:33, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

Giant Mushroom Glitch
When a giant mushroom is grown from a small one with bone meal, the block directly underneath the stem turns to dirt, no matter what it was before. <br/>whateffect, 10 September 2011, 5:40 (UTC)

This happens because the code used to check for the growth area of the mushroom is "recycled" from the tree generator code. That code replaced the underblock (that could only be dirt or grass) with dirt.

At mt.class, line 47, lies the code that does it. It can be easily fixed (if the behaviour was not intended) by adding a check for the block being grass right before that line.

^ this could also just be a place holder as the "Mushroom biome" isnt included yet (i think)

:This is a feature. Clover.Fuchs 08:16, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

::But you can also remove the bedrock al the lowest levels, thus falling out of the world and killing yourself. And this should not be possible.

:::That's your personal opinion. The ability to break out the bottom of the world is a feature and there's no reason you shouldn't be able to. The point of Creative Mode is to be able to create maps for people to play in and explore etc., and I can think of several good uses for having holes that fall out of the bottom of the world. It's a much better punishment to players who mess up than just lava pits. Clover.Fuchs 15:27, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

Villages ridiculously rare
I spent several hours running around in survival as well as flying through creative and never found a village (Yes the option to generate them was ON)

^same here... took me 10+ hours to FINALLY find one.. middle of the desert no less.

then i remembers notch and jeb stating they need open FLAT spaces to spawn and all i was ever finding biome was was mountains..swamps.. pine forests.. dense forests and deserts.. no snow.. no plains.. nothing flat or open.

after the village i found my first grassland.. which was HUGE.. but had still some very sharp hilly terrain on it not suitable for a village.

i believe its because notch himself stated in a tweet that he had to.. "tweak" the terrain generation "on site" to get the land suitable enough for more vilages to spawn.. likly this is the origional PRE pax code where that tweak hasent been implimented yet.

They're some memory issues in 1.8, Increased memory usage and lower FPS, when adventuring, you seem to take up more memory and the game lowers in FPS. This occurs even when the chunks have finished loading.

----

Additionally, reeds can be planted underwater and they will not be washed away.

^I have noticed that the lag goes away, and things start to load fast, once you go into video options in the escape menu. The problem is that the lag comes back, when you start to move again. All I have been doing to fill out my map in creative mode is moving really far, and going into video options to have things load again. ~Nova

A chunk, already loaded, rendered, in view, and within range disappeared momentarily (for about 5 to 10 seconds) as if it had not yet been loaded. Only happened once, and could not replicate the behavior.

Was playing Creative mode, Windows 7 64-bit OS, with advanced OpenGL on.

Exploring new chunks in a saved game creates lower oceans
When I explore new chunks from my saved game I have noticed that the new biomes are 1 block lower than the old ones. The water level in the oceans is where it can most clearly be seen, the oceans are 1 block lower on the new 1.8 chunks. This makes traveling by boat across the new border a bit difficult as there is a line of falling water. Going down into the new chunks isn't as much of a problem, it's the coming back that's hard to do. Trying to go upstream one block doesn't work well with boats, they just get pushed back. Not sure if this is something than can be easily fixed, most people will probably just be generating new worlds where it won't matter.

::I get this bug as well. About 2/3 of my paintings are black, and this is in Survival mode so it isn't exclusive to Creative. I have an ATI Radeon HD3650 and running WinVista x64 207.6.73.187 20:30, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

Survival mode bug
I place a crafting bench then i put my wood there and i make some sticks. i put them in the crafting bench and exit it without taking them. i go back to pick them up and one stick i cant pick up and i have 10 sticks. then i move the 10 sticks and i pick up another stick. but the extra stick si still on the ground. so i can sue that stick in crafting but anytime i try to merge that stick with the other 10 it disapears so i can only keep it as a one stick. but i can use it in crafting wasting one stick from the 10 and a one stick. then i can just repeat the process getting infinite sticks.

Big Mushrooms.
When grown on trees (possibly other blocks as well) it turns the block under it into dirt.

This happens because the code to create large mushrooms "recycled" the one used for checking for tree growth. In the Mushroom World Generator (mt.class), at line 47, it uses the old "Replace block with dirt" used by the sapling because it could only be placed there. To fix (if the bug is the turning the underblock into dirt, and not being able to grow elsewhere), simply needed to check if the underblock was grass, and if so, replace with dirt.

Sand mushrooms
Mushrooms can be placed on sand. When an object is planted next to them they uproot and can be collected, sometimes giving 2 mushrooms.

Movement Issues
When using the up arrow key to move forward the gui does a weird zoom in & zoom out thing. To replicate this: Try digging a large amount of dirt blocks or grass blocks while pressing the up arrow key. It does freakish things to your eyes.

:: i totally agree that it freaks out my eyes, however, what you have to understand is that it is not a bug. it is the SPRINT functionality (double tap forwards). i LOVE the way it zooms when you sprint however it is very frustrating when im trying to build lots of dirt areas or something and am pressing forwards a lot.

:: maybe notch will save us from this hell?

Glass/iron Bar Bug
when Glass Pane and Iron Bar are next to each other they don't link up like it would if Glass to dirt or Iron Bar to Dirt

Also When trying to create a horizontal glass pane it just ends up looking like a Glass + when placed in a 1x4 pattern it creates like a little tunnel you can fall down between glass blocks

also Glass Pane's when placed next to each other on blocks (ie: wood Planks)

will cause 2 half panes next to each other leaving the outer side of them open with no glass.

Game Very Laggy
Generating a new world is very laggy, even after the area has long since completely generated. Sometime its so laggy its almost to an unplayable point at max settings, which I always play it at and never had it run so slow not even a little, has to be bad generation problems. I even have the game on the Max FPS performance setting.

Edit -

Lag seems to increase if played on one world for long enough.

Additional:

Lag increases as you travel long distances. In debug, RAM usage grows and never releases.

Additional -

People have reported that the longer they play in a Single-player world the worst the lag and FPS problems become to the point that it is almost unplayable even on average or low graphical settings or after restarting the game.

It appears that Single-player causes significantly worse lag and FPS problems then Multi-player (Which also has some lag issues where the further you travel or the longer you play the more likely a lag spike occurs that can freeze/crash the game, especially during creative mode whilst using flight and instant mining).

Experience orb lag in Multiplayer
When any player dies with a decent amount of experience accumulated, the orbs scatter and creates intense lag making the game unplayable. Killings mobs for as little as an hour will result in enough experience orb lag to cripple a server until the experience "despawns".

<blockquote>

This is one of the most annoying bugs I encountered with my friend. We were exploring an abandoned mineshaft when my friend dies from a creeper attack. My FPS goes to 3-5. I have to hide in a corner until the exp orbs despawn.

Experience Orbs should turn into one singular orb per level, then every 10 levels they should form into one 10-level orb.. etc.

Same Problem as stated above with our server that we are playing the pre-release on. We actually noticed this in Multiplayer before hand in the previous builds. Lags the area around a player if there are too many drops in a concentrated area. We called this a "black hole" and used this in our PVP worlds as a weapon. The lag is client side bug and has minimal effects on a server. You can reproduce this by placing TNT and surrounding the TNT with full chests in the damage area and using the TNT to destroy all the chests. Leaving thousands of lets say dirt in a small area. If your close enough you will have unplayable lag but those not in the vicinity will experience nothing. Players with a better built computer will experience less lag than those who have a more out dated pc. The Orbs drop is the same principle and effect. Orbs that drop seem to have no half life and will continue to lurk until picked up. Leaving the whole area unplayable.

<blockquote>

Unfortunately my server's CPU usage ran high after I died carrying MANY orbs. It was pain to get myself from spawn to the place of my death to pick it all up again. Then I was waiting for 5 minutes surrounded by "animated" green-yellow glowing until I switched to 3rd person mode. It significantly speeded the whole process up.

Reinstalling minecraft and linux
Firstly, a lot of bugs that people are having can be rectified by reinstalling minecraft. By that I mean deleting the .minecraft folder, running the old minecraft.jar (1.7.3) and then replacing minecraft.jar inside the bin folder. Fixes A LOT of issues; odd colors, furnace crashing, trees in wrong biomes, water blocks spawning without blocks on all sides and not flowing, etc, etc. When I reinstalled minecraft, the game was MUCH more approachable, and 1.8 seems pretty good.

Secondly, an actual bug. The minecraft launcher menu in linux (ubuntu 11.04) is extraordinarily laggy. This was the case in previous versions as well, but remains with the new menu.

Extreme Slowdown/Memory Leak
With laptops using the Intel 4 Integrated Graphics there is a memory leak with lighting.

As time passes and land is generated GPU memory begins to be used rapidly with an eventual 1 to 2 fps. This can be fixed by resetting the Shadows or the viewing distance and will be smooth until it reloads again.

Versions prior to 1.7 did not have this problem.

Below is a similar description of this problem.

On 1.7.3, I was able to run at around 60-70 FPS all the time. When the map started to expand, it dropped to 50-60.

In 1.8 Pre-Release, I was still running at around 60 FPS, but there was extreme stuttering that only got worse as I explored more of the map. This was in survival mode AND creative mode. The game slowed to about 1 FPS when I explored about half the map via flight in creative. And this was with all the graphics at minimum. It also appeared that the stuttering could only get worse; once it was there it wouldn't go away. This was on a Win7 Pavilion dv7 Laptop.

Bug was seen in Creative mod, I don't know if it's in Surival mode, somebody please check it out

When you place a brown or red mushroom on any block , and then use a bone meal on this, the block will change to dirt

Screenshots showing the bug:

1. A mushroom placed on toolbox using blocks:

2. A big mushroom placed on dirt(before it was toolbox):

This bug is also seen when you place a mushroom on every kind of block (wool, cobble, note block, jukebox, etc.)

Mine shaft + canyon + enderman
A lot of bugs appears when canyon hits a mine shaft. This Includes flying pillars and chests.

There are also some lightning issues with canyons i could spotted.

Also when u meet enderman in shaft it doesnt seem to be interested in attacking u even if u stare at him, he rarely react (not even stops and stares at you too), but when he tries to teleport to you in shaft and there is no space, he dissaprears and probably appears next to you when you eneter mor spaceous place.

I'v been testing seed: 1961263745

loc of shaft aprox.: 140; 20 ; -600

-That is because the world generates, then the Abandoned Mine Shaft generates afterwards, applying itself to Ravines and Cave. Also, Endermen do want to kill you if you look at it, but it is too tall to fit through doorways and cannot teleport next to you by programming, and there is no where else for him to teleport to.

Its the simple Special V World situation. The mines are generated after dungeons, caves, rivines etc. Allowing for some weird things to happen, namely, floating wood and chests. Look around a bit, you might find a dungeon inside a mine. Thats something like what has happened here.

Void, ocean, main menu bugs / lag spike
-The particals that are in the void come up to layer 5 above bedrock (not tested in surival)

-Not rendered chunks beneeth the oceam are flickering because the void is showing through

-In the main menu changing the fancy graphics option will crash minecraft

-Im having a lag spike every 3 seconds even with render distance set to tiny (this doesnt happen when being in a 1.7 rendered world) might have something to do with the abandonned mine bug or the void particles

This same crash message has been repeated several times in the WIKI. It happens to me all the time on my SMP server. I don't know when it actually fails, but the next thing I try to do fails because I'm disconnected.

The results of this Null Pointer exception is all network traffic is dropped. The server appears fine, but the clients can't talk to it. If you go back to the Join Multiplayer page it eithe says 'Polling' or you get the Red X.

You just have to restart the server and then everything continues as normal. It doesn't appear to damage any data. (Except player saves possibly.) It's a very frequent crash.

MORE INFO: I've narrowed it down further to interaction between 'containers' like chests and furnaces. You pull/put the item and it appears to pull/put to the client, but the server drops the error and doesn't register it.

----

I've experienced this exception on both a medium sized existed map and brand new map, so I don't believe its related to map size. Also, some players crashed out first, then the other players experienced respawning blocks and all the monsters stopped moving until they all crashed out over the next minute or so.

^ What was the hostile mob? A Cave Spider? Correct. Are they supposed to have something like venom now? If so, this is not a bug.

**Yes. You were poisoned

Frozen Mob Models (SMP)
Me and my sister were playing in SMP when she noticed a frozen model of a skeleton. She could walk through it. Also, that model was only showing up on her client. We also believe that we saw a identical bug but with an Enderman. We didn't check because we're afraid of Endermen.

Uh... Probably just a spawning bug. Mabey, the game skrews up the spawning and shows you a partialy generated skeloten, phsical look is there but path finding and physical form isnt loaded yet.

PS. Diomond sword and a full belly will solve your endermen phobia.

When you change your Field Of View from the 'normal' setting to anything else, the fishing line that is seen when you cast your fishing hook out does not align with the fishing rod in first person. ~Nova

Its cos the FOV is a kinda pointless feture. I dont see the point anyway... On full setting or 'quake pro' as notch calls it... Everything is distorted in a way, including your fishing line.

Torch Placement
*So far I have found that you cannot place torches on leaves in survival and creative.

You never have been able to, torches arent meant to be put on leaves.

Auto-Breaking multiple mushrooms
If you break one mushroom and more mushrooms are near this block, they all break and you can collect them all. (1.8 Single Player - Survival) Don't know whether this is intended or a bug.

^ Breaking other mushroom caused block update, which probably broke other mushrooms. Known issue even before 1.8.

Can control time in Survival Mode
In a survival world, pressing F6/F7 allows you to control the time, something that you should only be able to do in creative mode.

My 1.8 Pre-relase bug foundings.
I have seen few bugs so far.

* If torch is placed on wall and you pour water upon it, the torch will fly off and disappear so it cannot be retrieved.

* While using sword and double-clicking use button (Right-Mouse button as default) you will start to sprint

* If player drops large amount of Experience Orbs there will be server-side and client-side lag which makes the game unplayable, lag will disappear after retrieving the Experience Orbs from the death location.

* Sometimes mob can spawn on top of trees and can't get down, this is really common for Sheep

* Sometimes if you even look directly at Enderman it wont attack you.

^ Enderman attack you when you look away from it after looking at it.

* Sometimes pre-generated Torches wont emit light.

* Game crashes occasionally when shifting graphics mode from Fast to Fancy or backwards. (Windows 7)

* If opening Door with hands, door sounds will not be played.

* When pressing use button (Right-Mouse button as default) with hands, player will not swing his arm as normally

* Chest lid may get sometimes stuck and wont get closed if any torches near it (1 block behind).

* Sugar Canes spread from Dirt to Sand.

Mobs Waking me up
Browser Version
Currently, the 1.8 pre-release is not working on the browser version. It just gives a black screen after loading.

Underwater Spawn
It is possible to not only spawn underwater, but to spawn in the middle of the ocean with no land in sight. (Shipwrecked anyone?) -Nodrak

Lol. Funny bug man. No, seriously. That sounds like a fair problem. Imagin if you died! You would never get to your items in time!

Only happens in multiplayer. == Bed Bug ==

Sometimes when I go to bed I will randomly wake up at the same time I go to sleep. There is no mobs waking me up either. When I turn it to peaceful nothing changes. It doesn't happen often but it is very annoying to try to mess with F6 and F7 to try and get the timing right...

(This is due to the fact that pressing F6, F7 breaks the ability for beds to change night into day. Disconnecting and reconnecting will change night back to day if F6/F7 was used to change the time.)

Mushroom Bug
Hello. Seems to me in the several worlds I have made in pree 1.8, mushrooms seem to be spawning in vast quantitys and in... Well, normal conditions. Spawning under trees is legit but there seems to be 3 or 4 spawning under most trees. This relevent with anyone else?

-where you in a swamp? because like pumpkin they are more common now. and they appear naturally in swamps

Time Changing Bug
Third bug report of the day... Doing my duty yessir I am.

You seem to be able to use the f6 f7 time toogle in survival mode. Bit of a uh... Good bug on player part but its a bit of cheating and I just thought I would report it. You can change the time of day freely when the worlds are in survival mode.

-Not a bug, that is just a debug code left for, well, debugging :P

Mob ID bug
Seems that mob ID blocks dont show up on 1.8. I found this out after about 10 mins of looking around like a total git looking for ID numbers and finding none. Just to tell you all you cant use that f3 thing to find strongholds or anything.

-not a bug, that is a feature. Entity IDs over mobs were just cheating

Workbench block duplication
when accessing a workbench and selecting a stack of blocks, it creates a single duplicate block in the first slot. This block cannot be used. If dropped, it remains there but cannot be picked up. If stacked, it disappears, but reappears whenever the action is replicated.

I just expireanced this with some coal. Unusable block. I have no idea what is causing this buddy, probbly like that block duplication glitch that was in 1.5.

Pumpkin Chrash
When i tried to click the pumpkin in creative mode's block menu it's coming up with the "Saving Chunks" Chrash, i tried atleast 5 times and it's happend all the times.

I wrote this because it's kinda annoying, if your going to use pumpkins in your creations.

Pumpkin Graphical Error
When roaming, sometimes you come across patches of dirt in grassy areas sometimes with 1 or 2 pumpkins near by. When you try to walk on them you start bouncing around and can't move much like standing on fences used to be like before 1.6 beta. If you try to place any block on the dirt patch, a pumpkin then appears as it should have. You don't love inventory of what you tried to place, even if you place a pumpkin. You can fix the graphical glitch if you save and quit and rejoin. Happens on servers mostly. Survival mode (gamemode: 0) I was OP, and it happened both at night and in the day, while roaming around generating new land.

Sword "one more hit" bug
When holding right button, and clicking left and then releasing right - sword will make one more hit. And this hit is not just animation - it does damage. So this bug can be annoying when playing with people on SMP.

Drowning and Shooting Yourself
1) If you are walking forward, and shoot the bow on the lowest charge, you will be hit by the arrow and take damage

2) When working around water just barely high enough to breathe in, it is possible to begin to drown, get air, but continue drowning with a full air bar.

3) Experience orbs make no sound when picked up.

4) Experience orbs (if there are a lot of them) will all fly around your head, making it impossible to see, for as long as it takes for them all to be collected.

5) Air pockets spawn underwater in large bodies of water.

XP bar visible above hotbar

According to Jeb during an interview,[1] Experience Points will be added as a new aspect of gameplay to Minecraft. The development of Experience is being undertaken by Notch. Experience can be obtained by gathering Experience Orbs from defeated mobs.[2] Gathering experience points will increase the player's levels by gradually filling a bar on the bottom of the screen until a new level is achieved when the bar is full. Each level up will reward the player with Skill Points[3], which Notch has said may be used for buying things such as increased jump height and increased maximum health.[2][4]

Jeb_ stated on Twitter that experience orbs will not be obtainable unless you kill the creature yourself[5], meaning grinders will not give you experience orb.

Jeb recently released a picture of the 1.8 GUI list, which shows the experience bar, among other things in there.
