The wet sponge is a variant of the sponge block that lacks its water-removing property.

Obtaining

A wet sponge can be mined by hand, or with any tool, in 0.9 seconds, dropping itself as an item. Mining time is not affected by the tool used.

Drops

An elder guardian drops one wet sponge when killed by the player. Since elder guardians do not respawn, this does not make sponges renewable.

Dry sponges

When a dry sponge absorbs water, it becomes a wet sponge.

Natural generation

Ocean monuments have a chance of spawning with a room containing wet sponges, usually having 15-30. More than one sponge room can be generated per monument.

Usage

To place a wet sponge, use a wet sponge item while pointing at a surface facing the space the wet sponge should occupy. A wet sponge emits water droplets from its sides and bottom, similar to the way any other block emits the droplets from the bottom when water is directly above it.

Wet sponges can be dried in a furnace in the same way as smelting other items.

Name Ingredients Smelting recipe
Sponge Wet Sponge +
Any fuel

When smelted, an empty bucket in the 'fuel' slot will fill and become a water bucket after the sponge is dried. This happens for empty buckets placed by the player while the furnace is still smelting, and also for empty buckets left by lava buckets.

Data values

A wet sponge has the ID name minecraft:sponge and is further defined by its block data. A wet sponge also has a block state which is expected to replace the functionality of block data in a future version.

Cookies are food items that can be obtained in large quantities, but do not restore hunger or saturation significantly.

Obtaining
Trading
Journeyman-level farmer villagers sell 18 cookies for 3 emeralds as part of their trades.

Crafting
Villager gifts
java, if the player has the Hero of the Village effect, a farmer villager may gift them a cookie.

Usage
Food
To eat a cookie, press and hold use while it is selected in the hotbar. Eating one restores 2 hunger and 0.4 hunger
saturation.

Parrots
Feeding a cookie to a parrot kills the parrot instantly, and causes it to give off Poison particles as it dies due to chocolate being toxic to parrots.
Bedrock, feeding a cookie to a parrot inflicts the parrot with Fatal Poison for 1,000 seconds.

Composting
Placing a cookie into a composter has an 85% chance of raising the compost level by 1.

Considering the high yield of cookies (8 cookies from 1 cocoa bean and 2 wheats) and the higher chance to successfully compost a cookie (85%), it is more efficient to craft cookies to compost rather than using separate ingredients. For example, 100 wheats and 50 cocoa beans, which in total could yield only 13.92 bone meal on average, could be crafted into 400 cookies to yield 48.57 bone meal on average.

14w25aAdded wet sponge.
14w25bWet sponges, when smelted, will fill an empty bucket in the fuel slot with water. Placing a stack of buckets in the fuel slot will replace the entire stack with a single bucket of water.
14w26aWet sponges do not replace a stack of buckets with a single one any more, due to furnaces only being able to hold one bucket in the fuel slot.
