Vindicators are hostile mobs. They are one of the two type of illagers, which are offshoot villagers – the other being the evoker.

Spawning

Natural generation

Vindicators spawn during the generation of woodland mansions, in particular rooms. Some rooms will contain 1, others will contain 3, and some will contain 2 accompanied by an evoker. They will not respawn after their initial spawn, thus there are a limited number of them per world. Vindicators spawned with mansions do not naturally despawn.

Some vindicators will spawn with an enchanted iron axe. This depends on the difficulty set. The chances go up as the difficulty goes up.

Drops

Vindicators only drop loot when killed by a player. They will drop 0–1 emeralds, with the maximum increasing by 1 for every level of Looting. They also have a 8.5% chance of dropping their axe which increases by 1 percentage point per level of Looting.

Behavior

Vindication

A vindicator chasing a villager.

Vindicators are hostile towards players and villagers. They will try to attack them, raising their main hand and wielding an iron axe. When in pursuit of their target they will sprint toward them. When not attacking, they cross their arms similar to a villager, and don't show the axe in their hand.

A vindicator will not pursue the player through the iron door of any naturally occurring woodland mansion jail cells, and after a time, will cease hostility as long as the player remains inside.

If a vindicator is named Johnny or has its Johnny tag set to 1b, it will be hostile to any kind of mob, except for evokers and other vindicators. It even will be hostile to vexes. The tag overrides its name, the player can give the vindicator any other name and set the Johnny tag to 1b and it will still be hostile in the same way as described. Conversely, you can name the vindicator Johnny and set the Johnny tag to 0b, and the vindicator will not be hostile as described, it will act as a normal vindicator.

Data values

Vindicators have entity data associated with them that contain various properties of the mob. Their entity ID is vindication_illager.

    • Tags common to all mobs spawnable in raids
    •  Johnny: 1 or 0 (true/false) - if true, causes the vindicator to exhibit Johnny behavior. Setting to false prevents the vindicator exhibiting Johnny behavior, even if named Johnny. Optional.

Honeycombs are items obtained from bee nests and beehives.

Obtaining
Tutorials/Honey farming
When a bee nest or beehive at honey_level 5 is sheared, it drops 3 honeycombs and angers any bees inside, causing them to attack. Having a lit campfire or lighting a fire underneath the nest or hive prevents the bees from becoming hostile.

A dispenser with shears inside can be used to shear the nest without angering the bees. The honeycomb pops out as a dropped item.

Usage
Signs
Using a honeycomb on a sign or a hanging sign prevents the sign from being edited.

Waxing
Using a honeycomb on a block of copper changes the block into its waxed variant, preventing oxidation of the copper.

A very fine item was a joke item from Java Edition 20w14∞, found only in the isolation dimension.

Appearance
The texture of a very fine item resembles the side face of a grass block with the words "Home Sweet Home" written on it. Unlike most items, its texture is 64x64 pixels, rather than the usual 16x16.

Obtaining
Dimension
A very fine item can only be obtained from an item frame in the isolation dimension. There is a maximum of 1 fine item that can be found legitimately in any world.

Cheats/Creative mode
This item can't be found in the creative inventory, but it can be middle-click duplicated in creative mode or given with the command.

Usage
This item cannot be placed or used in any way other than a trophy. It can still be inserted and/or rotated inside of an item frame.

16w39aVindicators added.
16w40a"Johnny" vindicators are now activated by a custom tag in addition to a custom name.
Their axe is now one of their HandItems, whereas before it was purely a visual effect. This means their attack now disables Shields.
Vindicators have been heavily buffed - their attack damage on Easy has been increased from 3♥♥ to 7♥♥♥♥, on Normal 5♥♥♥ to 13♥ × 6.5, and on Hard, 7♥♥♥♥ to 19♥ × 9.5.
