Vindicators are hostile mobs, and one of the two illagers, the other being the evoker.

Spawning

Natural generation

Vindicators spawn during the generation of woodland mansions, in particular rooms. Some rooms will contain 1, others will contain 3, and some will contain 2 accompanied by an evoker. They will not respawn after their initial spawn, thus there are a limited number of them per world. Vindicators spawned with mansions do not naturally despawn.

Some vindicators will spawn with an enchanted iron axe. This depends on the difficulty set. The chances go up as the difficulty goes up.

Drops

Vindicators only drop loot on player kills. They will drop 0–1 emeralds, with the maximum increasing by 1 for every level of Looting. They also have a 8.5% chance of dropping their axe which increases by 1 percentage point per level of Looting.

Behavior

Vindication

A vindicator chasing a villager.

Vindicators are hostile towards players and villagers. They will try to attack them, raising their main hand and wielding an iron axe. When in pursuit of their target they will sprint toward them. When not attacking, they don't show the axe in their hand.

If a vindicator is named Johnny or has its Johnny tag set to 1b, it will be hostile to any kind of mob, except for evokers and other vindicators. It even will be hostile to vexes. The tag overrides the name, so you can give a vindicator any other name and set the Johnny tag to 1b and it will still be hostile in the same way as described. Conversely, you can name the vindicator Johnny and set the Johnny tag to 0b, and the vindicator will not be hostile as described, it will act as a normal vindicator.

Data values

Vindicators have entity data associated with them that contain various properties of the mob. Their entity ID is vindication_illager.

  • Entity data
    • Tags common to all entities
    • Tags common to all mobs
    • Tags common to all mobs spawnable in raids
    •  Johnny: 1 or 0 (true/false) - if true, causes the vindicator to exhibit Johnny behavior. Setting to false prevents the vindicator exhibiting Johnny behavior, even if named Johnny. Optional.

Torchflower seeds are seeds that have a chance to be dropped by sniffers when they finish digging.

Obtaining
Sniffers will occasionally bury their nose in the ground and start digging. Once the sniffer has finished digging, one torchflower seed will have a chance to be dropped on the floor as an item.

Sniffers can only dig for torchflower seeds in the following blocks:
*Dirt
*Grass Block
*Podzol
*Coarse Dirt
*Rooted Dirt
*Moss Block
*Mud
*Muddy Mangrove Roots
They cannot dig for torchflower seeds on mycelium, which is intended.

Usage
Crop
Torchflower seeds can be placed on farmland, where they grow through three stages. Breaking the torchflower crop before it matures drops the seed, while breaking the final stage produces one torchflower and does not yield the seed.

Crops break if pushed by a piston or if their supporting farmland breaks or turns to dirt (i.e. by being trampled), dropping their usual drops.

Farmer villagers can plant torchflower seeds, but cannot harvest them after they have fully grown.

Feeding
Torchflower seeds can be used to breed sniffers and chickens and reduce the remaining growth duration of snifflets and chicks by 10%. Also, if some torchflower seeds were fed to an injured sniffer, it will heal it by 2 health points.

Taming
Torchflower seeds can be used to tame parrots.

Composting
Placing torchflower seeds into a composter has a 30% chance of raising the compost level by 1.

Trivia
* The final growth stage of the torchflower crop uses the same ID as the actual torchflower. This causes some side effects, such as the plant becoming offset and randomly jumping to the side.

Trivia

The hostile behavior caused by naming a Vindicator "Johnny" Is possibly a reference to the movie "The Shining" by Stanley Kubrick.
