Just a question, if I create a server on my computer, do I need to keep it constantly running to save the world I've created? Basically, will the world disappear completely if the server goes down? Just a quick Question; is there a way to add custom commands into the base SMP? In other words, I'm wondering how to add commands to basically give players "Toolboxes" filled with items. Also, it's a Private server, so if you require that I allow you in, I cannot. So, in a nutshell, is there something that allows me to make custom commands on the base SMP? == Dual Core for Servers? ==

The "Server requirements" section recommends a dual core CPU to host anything but a very small number of players. Which I find unlikely as Minecraft only ever uses a single CPU core. It would be more appropriate to state that a dual core CPU could be advantageous if the server runs CPU-heavy background services, but won't help Minecraft by itself in any way.

I'd say that it's still a good idea. My server is set up to run the server on a specific core, allowing me to prevent lag spikes.

Different Person again here -> Minecraft does NOT use more than one core, it is PHYSICALLY INCAPABLE of using a second core. Yes, if you're running somthing else on the box, a second core is a good idea, but as it's worded now, it's wrong. Amount of cores is NOT EQUAL TO amount of players hosted [[Special:Contributions/121.44.167.191|121.44.167.191]] 13:41, 30 September 2011 (UTC)

Revision as of 08:12, 1 October 2011

The Cauldron was originally going to be a craftable essential block in Minecraft. It would have been used to make Potions using Brewing Recipes.[1] It is planned to be replaced with the Brewing Stand because of the inconvenient method of brewing with the cauldron. The Cauldron will be left in game as Jeb has said he may find another use for it later.[2][3][4]

History

Alchemy was first hinted at in July 2010, when Notch hinted that redstone dust would later be used in potions.[5] Potion effects were introduced in Beta 1.8, and expanded on in the Beta 1.9 Pre-release.

On September 27th 2011 Jeb tweeted that there wasn't enough time to add the brewing system to Beta 1.9.[6][7]

On September 29th 2011 Jeb tweeted about issues with the current implementation of cauldrons. [8]

On September 30th 2011 Jeb tweeted that "the Caudron is out" after a conversation with Notch on how potions should work.[9] [10]

On September 30th 2011 Jeb tweeted "Look back at me! Your Cauldron is now a Brewing Stand. Anything's possible when working with interaction design." [11] and that I'm fully aware the potions are very thin (diet?), but it looks cute: [12] (Always work in progress, of course). [13]

Trivia

  • There is an unused texture for the cauldron in terrain.png
