Hello Wynthyst, issues about Wiki articles.[]

Hi, Wynthyst. I'm the Bureaucrat of Chinese Minecraft Wiki. Lately we've noticed that some other Chinese private "Game Wiki"s are directly copying our(The Chinese Minecraft Wiki and the English site as well) articles to their "Minecraft" section. Should we tell them not to do so? Or is it allowed?
---- Craft Lawrence 21:15, 2 April 2012 (UTC)

Provide me the links to those sites, and we will get take down notices issued. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 17:27, 3 April 2012 (UTC)

Alright, here's the site (it's in Chinese though)
and here are some evidences :

(There are some other articles that are coarsely translated from English Minecraft wiki)
Not only that they're copying our articles, but they're also using misleading translations. I myself contributed and conducted the translation of the official game, they're using very irritating and irresponsible translations like "Black gay(黑基佬)"for Enderman. They call it being "player friendly" (because many Chinese players use it as a nickname). I'm very much concerned about this, please tell them to come up with their own Minecraft related contents and stop copying our work while using inappropriate translations, thanks.

Minor request[]

Could you change $wgLogo to point to /images/b/bc/Wiki.png instead of overwriting what it is set to in common.css? This would fix an issue with the skin where the logo shows up wrong when previewing. And is just generally tidier. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 17:37, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

No. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 06:23, 2 April 2012 (UTC)

The MediaWiki:Sitenotice doesn't seems to work properly on Chinese Wiki, the message itself is not centered on the page and the "dismiss" button is garbled. ---Powup333 ZH Admin 14:27, 4 April 2012 (UTC)

A suggestion[]

One of the users on the Chinese wiki suggests that set the [Manual:$wgUsePrivateIPs] MediaWiki not trusting the X-Forwarded-For (XFF) to reduce the amount of Wiki-attacks, what do you think about this, would this help?---Powup333 ZH Admin 15:00, 5 April 2012 (UTC)

Tree/video page being deleted[]

Hi, I put the tree video on the offical tree page. I want you to delete the tree/video page.

If you say no I will delete the tree video from the offical tree page. Thank you.

Sorry, but official videos from Curse are required to be posted on the item page. They are placed on subpages so that they can not be changed by anyone but admins. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 07:39, 7 April 2012 (UTC)

SVG images[]

It looks like svg images are being sent with Content-Type: text/plain, which causes some browsers to display the raw xml instead of rendering it as an image. It should be sent with Content-Type: image/svg+xml instead. -- Orthotope 11:15, 8 April 2012 (UTC)

Oh! My god just look at Chinese Minecraft Wiki![]

Spanish Wiki administrators[]

Hello, Wynthyst!

Kizzycocoa told me that I must talk to you about this:

" I noticed that the Spanish version of Minecraft Wiki doesn't have any administrator/bureaucrat... I'm Spanish, so if you need some staff for the Spanish Wiki, I'm available for it "

(text sent to Kizzycocoa)

Well, I saw your announcement here, on this User Talk, and I think I can help in the Spanish Wiki as a bureaucrat, administrator or a similar power for delete spam, block bad users, or protect pages.

If you agree, then I'll do my best to collaborate on Spanish Wiki.

Good luck! ^^ - Kingpowl 15:24, 4 May 2012 (UTC)

Since you know this wiki stuff, can you tell me what the green or red +32 or -8 things in recent changes are.--Pigisdeado - talk + contribs 22:15, 10 May 2012 (UTC)

The change in the total amount of characters on the page. +32 means there are 32 more characters on the page than before the edit, -8 means there are 8 characters less on the page than before the edit.
It'll be bold if there is a large change in characters (greater than 500). –ultradude25 (T|C) at 02:28, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
I remember I had this exact same question when I started editing on wikis too, but isn't it for the number of bytes that are different? Also I noticed this some time ago and never asked about it due to inconvenience, but since this is in topic: why are the page histories for pages no longer showing these differences (with the red or green numbers)? Now only the Recent changes page shows this. Is there a reason why it disappeared/was removed, and can it be re-implemented again? It's pretty useful for determining removal or addition of content. - Asterick6 05:14, 12 May 2012 (UTC)
Go ask the MediaWiki developers. The history shows you the total size of the page after each edit, maybe they are hoping you can do the math. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 05:17, 12 May 2012 (UTC)
Then is Minecraft Wiki using a different version of MediaWiki? Wikipedia still has the numbers. Sometimes people don't like doing the math; they are pretty useful for quickly seeing the type of change in the edit (removal or addition). - Asterick6 01:34, 15 May 2012 (UTC)
Wikipedia is always on a different version to us, since they use experimental builds, whereas we only use stable release builds (and even then it takes ages until an update to them happens, since all of Curse's wikis have to be done at the same time). –ultradude25 (T|C) at 02:05, 15 May 2012 (UTC)
Oh I see. Thanks for answering my questions thoroughly. - Asterick6 02:51, 15 May 2012 (UTC)

Spanish Wiki errors[]

Hello again, Wynthyst.

What is happening on Spanish Wiki? The main page seems like... broken. And some buttons in the 'history' pages are broken too.

I hope you can fix it soon.

Good luck! Kingpowl 15:57, 13 May 2012 (UTC)

mods page broken[]

yeah..it's not there.....

Fixed. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 00:50, 15 May 2012 (UTC)

Why did you make it so users cant edit the items template till 19:45, 29 May 2012 (UTC)? --007a83 (Talk|Contribs) 21:09, 28 May 2012 (UTC)

Because we are experiencing some server load issues, and those templates are widely used on the wiki, and every change negatively affects server performance while the change is being parsed out. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 21:11, 28 May 2012 (UTC)
Ok but the Chain armor and bottle "o" enchanting are in the wrong place. They need to be in planed --007a83 (Talk|Contribs) 21:17, 28 May 2012 (UTC)
It's not going to cause catastrophic failure of the wiki for them to be in the wrong section for 24hrs, and I don't see an actual consensus on the talk page of where they should be located anyway. Those templates should NOT be randomly edited EVER, only after everyone agrees on the changes that need to be made. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 21:20, 28 May 2012 (UTC)
Sorry I just like to make sheer the wiki is in tip top shape. --007a83 (Talk|Contribs) 21:26, 28 May 2012 (UTC)
O and here is the info on the talk page. --007a83 (Talk|Contribs) 21:29, 28 May 2012 (UTC)
As I said, there is no consensus, only you refuting another user's opinion. That does not make consensus. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 21:31, 28 May 2012 (UTC)

Error 503[]

The Chinese Wiki seems to be getting a lot of "Error 503 Service Unavailable" recently, is there anyway you can solve this problem? —Powup333 ZH Admin 14:12, 10 June 2012 (UTC)

The Chinese Wiki has been under attack by many scrapers (means you guys are doing a good job), unfortunately it impacts the performance of the servers. We also had a minor network hardware problem late friday, which has left some residual problems that will be addressed on Monday. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 00:29, 11 June 2012 (UTC)

Adding link to side bar[]

Wynthyst, can you add the Minecraft Wiki:Welcome page and the Frequently Asked Questions page to the links in the sidebar? This may be more helpful for new users who might not see the box at the bottom of the main page. Thanks - Asterick6 (talk) 20:37, 17 June 2012 (UTC)

There's already a link to Help:Contents which has links to both those pages in it. ultradude25 (T|C) at 20:54, 17 June 2012 (UTC)
