Chinese Subdomain[]
Hi, Wynthyst:
We(the Chinese tranlsation project team) have already created all the pages exisiting on the Chinese Wiki, and I've translated the main page of Chinese wiki. Can we just have the subdomain now? About the CH wiki admin nominee issue, I think we'll sort it out somehow after we have the Subdomain. Thank you for your consideration. --Craft Lawrence 15:17, 4 August 2011 (UTC)

Hey Wynthyst, just a couple of notes about the mini-footer just below the content area (the "This page was last modified on..." one): First, I think the Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported link should point to a page with further information on the license or a copy of that license's text (and the link text should probably also specify that it's a Creative Commons license); and second, there should really be some sort of visual separator between the links, so that they don't appear to all be one long link (playing around with it some, I think having the Privacy policy, About, and Disclaimers links on their own line, with a middot ("·") between them, looks pretty good, but that's just me ;) ). Cheers! =) 「ダイノガイ千?!」? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 17:08, 4 August 2011 (UTC)
- I will take a look at the css and see if those links can be changed. As for populating them, we are working on it on a network basis for standardization. -- Wynthyst

Application for Dutch wiki admin[]
Hello Wynthyst!
When I saw there was a Dutch wiki I registered myself and began editing on the pages at the Dutch wiki. But to be honest, the current wiki's state's quite a mess (although some templates are quite impressive). And I'm willing to help the wiki to a higher level.
Currently, I've translated a small number of articles and I'm still not done fixing the spelling and grammar errors and such of the rest of the pages. Besides that, I've decided to do a complete retranslation of the existing pages and a clean up of the whole wiki. But I don't have access to edit some templates (mainly "sjabloon:vertaal"/"sjabloon:vertaal_woord"), delete useless pages, move categories, etc. I've already contacted one of the admins there, but to constantly ask an admin for doing many tasks can be quite frustrating for both me and the admin (and not to forget, time consuming).
I've basic knowledge of wiki editing and managing as I've my own private wiki which I use for saving things which I easily forget. Besides that, I'm a quick learner and the wiki language is not that complicated.
So now the question you probably already know by now. As I've already said, I'm willing to help the wiki to a higher level, but to manage it in a better way I have to have more privileges. So I want to apply for admin on the Dutch wiki.
If I need to add some other (may be required) information, well... I'm Dutch, 19 years old and quite a perfectionist if it comes to spelling and grammar. I can communicate in English fairly well. And... just ask me if you've any questions.
--Archomeda 22:48, 12 August 2011 (UTC)
- Seeing as you just started yesterday, I'd like to give it just a bit more time to evaluate your skills before providing you with admin access. Let's say... a week? there are plenty of things to do on the Dutch wiki that don't require admin access that can keep you busy for a week. If you need anything from an admin both STS and Quatroking are there to help. -- Wynthyst
talk 00:05, 13 August 2011 (UTC)
- Alright, I've no problem with that. I'll wait for a week. In that time I'll do things I'm already doing. See you then! --Archomeda 11:41, 13 August 2011 (UTC)
Some problems[]
Hi Wynthyst!
I'd like to ask you some questions regarding the Hungarian wiki.
Firstly, do the Hungarian interwiki links have to be manually inserted into every English article? I heard there is a bot for it on Wikipedia (yes, Wikipedia again. But this time they have a good stand.) that is registered in every Wiki and if someone creates a new article and has interwiki links at the end, the bot updates each of the other language pages with the newly created page's link. I wonder if it could be done here too.
Secondly; the crafting animations are not working on the Hungarian wiki. Only the animations, not the still pictures. (See hu:Barkácsolás.) Could you or some technical agent Curse member admin stuff possibly look into it; check the codes and stuff? (Note: I actually modified the hu:Sablon:Grid/Crafting Table code when I decided to rename the Grid:Stuff pictures to Rács:Stuff (Grid in Hungarian), but then I wrote Grid back.)
Thanks, TunShaHUN(talk/contribs) 12:56, 13 August 2011 (UTC)
- I think they are working on a bot for the interwiki links, see the Director's page. The problem with the crafting grid has to do with the javascript on MediaWiki:Common.js page. I copied it all over, but I'm not sure why it's not working cuz I'm not that great with javascript. -- Wynthyst

But about the interwiki links..I read that Scaler has a bot to do that on the directors' page. Could you tell him to register that bot on the huwiki? Because I guess there are less than 5 pages where the English page has a Hungarian interwiki link on the sidebar. TunShaHUN(talk/contribs) 21:03, 17 August 2011 (UTC)

Minecraft Job Posting[]
Hello,
I work for WonderHowTo.com, and we're currently looking to hire a Minecraft community admin/writer. You can view the ad here: http://blog.wonderhowto.com/blog/were-hiring-wonderhowto-seeks-minecraft-community-admin-0129391/
I initially contacted Quatroking, who directed me to you. Is it kosher to post this on Minecraft Wiki?
Thank you,
Rachel
- Hi Rachel, as I indicated on Quatroking's page, posting this stuff on either our forum or wiki is against Curse's policy. I would recommend the IRC for recruitment, since that is not a Curse property. -- Wynthyst

Brazilian Subdomain[]
Hi Wynthyst, I finished translating all the red links in the brazilian main page. Can we have the subdomain now? Please, br.minecraftwiki.com. And the admins I think it's me, VictorWentz and TheArvie. Can you put that all in? Thank you.
- I think the subdomain should probably be "pt-br", to conform with the ISO 639 standard (though I don't know how much Curse cares about that)... 「ダイノガイ千?!」? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 21:28, 22 August 2011 (UTC)
- Yes and that's what it will be. -- Wynthyst

- Sorry for intervening, but the main page redlinks were only resolved, not translated. See Texture Packs/ptbr, Mods/ptbr, Server/ptbr, Custom servers/ptbr, Programs and Editors/ptbr, redstone circuits/ptbr, Development Resources/ptbr, Gameplay/ptbr, Classic/ptbr and I'm sure there are a few more. Of course I don't object if there are a few untranslated links on the main page, but having a blank page with a PTBR-translation template in it and claiming it translated doesn't mean it is translated. But of course Wyntyhst will have to judge. TunShaHUN(talk/contribs) 15:18, 23 August 2011 (UTC)

Missing email notifications[]
Hey Wynthyst, I frequently do not get email notifications of edits performed by bot accounts here (User:Overwatch AI and User:R2-D2). This seems to happen whenever the first edit to a page I'm following after I've visited it is done by a bot. Could you pass this on to the tech team for me (especially since I can't possibly be the only one affected by this)? 「ダイノガイ千?!」? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 16:41, 27 August 2011 (UTC)
- Also, I forgot to mention this, but when this happens, email notifications for subsequent edits are also not delivered. There have been cases where a page has been edited hundreds of times over several months without me receiving a single email notification. I often don't even realize I'm missing edits until I check my watchlist (which I don't do often, since I rely primarily on emails to notify me of new edits). 「ダイノガイ千?!」? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 17:08, 27 August 2011 (UTC)
- Not to be rude or pushy or anything, but could you please at least confirm that Curse is aware of this problem now? 「ダイノガイ千?!」? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 06:56, 29 August 2011 (UTC)
- Don't say "Not to be rude or pushy or anything" when you are being rude and pushy. It's the weekend. The tech's aren't available on the weekend, unless it's something like the site has blown up. I will get them to look into it in the morning when they get to the office, I'm certainly not going to interrupt their weekend because you aren't getting your emails. Geez Dino, take a breath... k? I do apologize for not having acknowledged your post, I thought I had. -- Wynthyst

- Aah, sorry about that; the fact that it's the weekend actually hadn't crossed my mind (me being tired certainly didn't help matters either). That and I have a very weird sense of time when it comes to the internet; I honestly thought it'd been more than just a couple days since I posted the original message. You can feel free to interpret me as being needy or obnoxious or whatever if you'd like; while it certainly wasn't my intention, looking at my message again, it certainly looks that way. ;P 「ダイノガイ千?!」? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 08:27, 29 August 2011 (UTC)
- Don't worry, if it's any consolation, I am deathly paranoid of my own comments coming off as grouchy or whiny or leave-me-the-f-alone-y or whatever; I almost always read them through before posting them, and it's not terribly uncommon for me to rewrite part(s) (or sometimes all) of them (sometimes more than once). =D 「ダイノガイ千?!」? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 08:42, 29 August 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for your attention to this issue. =D It would be good to remember that this may actually be a bug in MediaWiki; it certainly wouldn't be the first such email-related bug I've seen (for instance, page deletions get emailed as page creations, and email notifications for page renames are just wonky). I really should start writing down these bugs and then reporting them on Bugzilla. 「ディノ奴千?!」? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 08:54, 2 September 2011 (UTC)
- I looked a bit ago (and then got distracted =D ), bug 14901 looks to pretty well sum up a lot of the problems with MediaWiki email notifications. 「ディノ奴千?!」? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 09:20, 2 September 2011 (UTC)
User JS?[]
Hey Wynthyst, is user-specific Javascript enabled at the moment? I have a new messages history link script, but it isn't working (it can't be my browser cache, either, since the last time I touched my vector.js page was when I created it in May). If it helps, this should be as simple as making sure $wgAllowUserJs is set to "true" in LocalSettings.php. Also, having "mw:" set as an interwiki prefix to "http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/$1" (or whatever the specific syntax is; it's been years since I've configured custom interwiki prefixes in a MW installation) would be pretty useful. =D 「ダイノガイ千?!」? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 21:43, 1 September 2011 (UTC)
- Unless admins get special permissions for the js, it's still working for me. My quick preview button is still there and working. The only difference is, your script is importing from wikipedia where as mine is straight in the js file, so maybe Curse has imported scripts off or something. Try copying the script your importing from directly in, and see if it starts working. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 23:17, 1 September 2011 (UTC)
- Ultradude: that can't be it, since importScriptURI() is an entirely Javascript-based function.
- Wynthyst: Okay. Mucking about in Chrome's developer tools, it looks like both my vector.js page and the script it loads from Wikipedia are loading... I'll have to see what shows up the next time my talk page is edited
(I may do so myself, just so I don't have to wait). 「ダイノガイ千?!」? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 06:15, 2 September 2011 (UTC) - Or maybe I won't do it myself, since I forgot that all anon editing is disabled here. Maybe someone else will... *hint hint* ;) 「ダイノガイ千?!」? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 06:19, 2 September 2011 (UTC)
- And I am, of course, an idiot - I'd forgotten that the most recent version of the new messages history link script relies on a change to MediaWiki:Youhavenewmessages (as I mentioned on my talk page); I've copied an older version of the script here and hopefully it will work properly now. Sorry for the trouble... *sheepish grin* 「ディノ奴千?!」? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 07:19, 2 September 2011 (UTC)

Bug reporting for the second pre-release[]
Hi, I see you were responsible for the creation and protection of the bug list of the 1.8 pre-release. There is now a second pre-release out, which fixes a number of bugs. I asked this on the talk page, but I hope to get a quicker response this way: Can a new page be made for the second pre-release be made? I think it'd be a good idea to start from scratch and maybe lock editing on the first pre-release bug list, so people aren't going to waste time reporting and investigating bugs on an outdated pre-release. Vandalism on french wiki[]
Hi,
We have a huge case of vandalism on the French wiki since two days. Someone is inserting crap into pages and models, and his IP is changing every times. We tried blocking him with the abuse filter but his edits varies and don not contains bad words… Furthermore I don't have anymore acces to Internet at home for still a few days, so it is really hard to counter him.
The strange part is that he used the « 127.0.0.1 » IP, so either he can hack media-wiki to put up any IP address, or he has access to Curse's servers!
– Scaler (t) 07:37, 16 September 2011 (UTC)
- Nah, he's just on a proxy. As for the filters, we have had some issues with them not working on the language wikis due to the special characters in your alphabets. I will see what I can do :D -- Wynthyst
talk 18:28, 17 September 2011 (UTC)
- We added two other filters. They need some more adjustments, but they are working quite well.
- About the IP, I know they are using proxies or a botnet. But « 127.0.0.1 » is a local IP address (localhost to be more precise, which correspond to the hosting server itself), it is not possible to obtain this IP with proxies or botnet. This point is really strange and the tech team should be inform about it, I think…
