Image resizing?[]

Methinks you grok the .png habit better than I, so might you take a look at:

Tutorials/Quarry [1]

The new pic is rather nice, and has a good relative field of view, but I think its size is a little screen-busting. Is it worth asking the OP to resize it, or is this something you would normally just do yourself and repost the pic? -Wulfenbach (not on fire for once) 03:57, 8 March 2011 (UTC)

Uh.. just change it to a more normal size? –ultradude25 (T|C) at 04:13, 8 March 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, resizing is something anyone can do. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 05:03, 8 March 2011 (UTC)

Minepedia Copyrights[]

Is there a page for what the copyrights either Curse.com or Minepedia claim over the wiki's content? This is in reference to a comment made on Crafting's talk page (cc'd to Quatroking's TP since he's the other active I know who might know). -Wulfenbach (not on fire for once) 05:31, 9 March 2011 (UTC)

No, no wiki material is subject to copyright unless it is specified so (ie; an image) MoonBeans 20:09, 13 March 2011 (UTC)
Um, that's not correct. All material, whether text or images are subject to copyright or licensing. Each contributor holds copyright on their submissions by default, but unless otherwise tagged, all content falls under the Curse.com terms of service, meaning Curse owns it, and it can not be used by other sites without their permission.-- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 20:11, 13 March 2011 (UTC)

Header Tabs[]

You mentioned on the historization page that you could use header tabs, could you explain that to me? MoonBeans 19:50, 13 March 2011 (UTC)

Here is a page on another wiki that uses it. http://www.faxionwiki.com/Vainglory it allows me to "stack" the tables, however, it can be used to do the same to text or any other data. Also, the tabs can be configured to look more like tabs with outlines etc. It simply worked better on that wiki to not do it that way. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 19:53, 13 March 2011 (UTC)
Looks great, how do I use them? MoonBeans 20:07, 13 March 2011 (UTC)

GermanWiki collapsable/expandable[]

Hi from the GermanWiki. Can you tell me why expandable/collapsable dont work in the GermanWiki? If I want to test your example , no corresponding function is displayed. Greetings --The Miner 01:31, 14 March 2011 (UTC)

I have solved it just itself. My fault but thanks anyway :). Greetings --The Miner - MCWikiAdministrator 02:54, 14 March 2011 (UTC)

GermanWiki deleted crafting output files[]

Hi, Ultradude25 deleted today all crafting output files. Unhappily in the German version, too. Now we are missing a lot of pictures! look here. How can this happen? -- Oliver Scholz - German MCWiki Administrator 20:05, 14 March 2011 (UTC)

You need to update the Crafting pages on the German wiki. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 00:04, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

Minecraft Sports[]

Hi Wynthyst,

you just deleted my entry as Minecraft Sports Discussion. I'm sorry if that was not the apropriate place to make a suggestion. But I really like to learn more about Minecraft Sports and think that would be an enrichment to this wiki and not very simple stuff everyone already knows.

So were is the right place to do such a suggestion?

And I'm also wondering why things get deleted here so quickly and unrecoverably. I was hoping to still find a history with older versions of that stuff, so that things aren't completely lost.

Cheers Zodac

The forum is the proper place for that kind of stuff. I believe there was some discussion about "sports" on the Community Portal talk page (Minecraft_Wiki_talk:Community_portal/Archive_3#Sports_subpages), you might want to check the archives. Things that are inappropriate are deleted when they are found. Since category pages can't be moved, there really is no option other than to delete them. Everything that gets deleted can be restored, but a random category talk page is unlikely to be. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 12:16, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

Thank You, Wynthyst --Zodak 12:43, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

New template[]

Thank you for promotion to the new Dutch admin.

Moved this to: Minecraft_Wiki_talk:Directors#Animated_Grid.2FCrafting_Table

Dutch wiki[]

Dear Wynthyst, I have a few questions regarding the dutch wiki.
First: I made a basic layout for items on the Dutch page for Bone, since it wasn't in use yet. [2]. One of the Dutch admins liked it but told me to consult the English admin. The titles in English are:
  • 1. Availability (as in, where to get it)
  • 2. Usage (as in, anything except crafting)
  • 3. Crafting (literally: Processing, we have no good dutch translation for crafting (I checked multiple sources for that word)) (Both using workbench and Furnace)
(There is a small bug with the crafting grid in there, since it's still a work in progress from another user, so I don't know the name of the bonemeal file yet.)
  • 4. Trivia (Facts like release day etc)
  • 5. References (obvious I think)
  • 6. See also (Articles that can be of particular interest for people who read this one)
Second: Since the "Been" article I somehow lost my ability to create a new page. Is this a very recent change in policy, or did I do something that has caused me to lose this right?
Third: The Dutch version of the wiki seems to lack a Citation Needed template, is this something I should report to you or a dutch Administrator?
Yours Truly, --Kettling 19:14, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
We changed our configuration slightly this morning to make it harder for spammers to attack the wikis. To get your page creation rights back you simply need to make 10 other edits.. go fix some typos or something and have it be at least 3 days since you created your account. I'm sorry for the inconvenience, but we've had ongoing spam attacks and this is the best way to resolve them right now. As for page layouts and page titles, I want to see all 6 sites working in sync on this kind of stuff with the English wiki taking the lead. So if there is an article on the English wiki, it should be followed as far as layout etc, on the multi lingual subdomains. As for templates, talk to the Dutch admins, or wait til your once again able to create pages and do it yourself :D -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 19:25, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
Dear Wynthyst, I have had a look at the first 12 items in the items table, but there are differences in the page layout. Which item should the page layout for future item-related dutch articles follow? The Dutch version I just posted did contain everything that occured in the English item pages, but not all english item pages contain all sections. (Oh, I just noticed I forgot something in my previous description that might be notable: point 3, crafting is both crafting with a workbench and crafting with a furnace.) --Kettling 19:37, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
I would use the layout that provides the most information. This is a discussion that the admins need to take up as part of the new Directors discussions. Keep up the good work. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 19:42, 29 March 2011 (UTC)
In that case, would it be wise, and possible, for me to submit the layout I made as a topic for the Directors discussions? Yours truly, --Kettling 19:46, 29 March 2011 (UTC)

Directors discussion page[]

Some of the text I've seen about Project:Directors suggests that it's intended to be specifically admin-only. I understand that it's meant to be a central discussion point for all admins from the six language versions of the MC Wiki, but is the intention indeed to have it closed to non-admins, or is that just a misunderstanding on my part? ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 01:44, 30 March 2011 (UTC)

No, that is the intention. If you wish to have input on any of the topics, take it to the admins of your wiki. While nothing that is done on any of the wikis is intended to be done without community input, the director's page is strictly for dialogue between the admins of the various language sites. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 01:48, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
Is it possible to add a link to the directors page on the sidebar, that only shows up for people in the directors group? –ultradude25 (T|C) at 01:56, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
All right, I'm not going to argue it, but I will voice my opinion that it seems an unnecessary restriction, especially given the technical nature of the discussions currently taking place on it - if I have something I want to say there in relation to technical matters (especially templates), but have to go through an admin, I have no guarantee they will be able to correctly articulate what I'm wanting to say, and even less guarantee that they'll quote me instead of trying to rephrase it, or even just offer a link to my comment. I appreciate the desire to control who participates in these discussions, but it may be better in the long run to at least allow those non-admin editors with technical inclinations and experience to participate in the technical discussions.
Now, as for why I asked this, based on my skimming of the crafting template animations discussion, it looks like the German wiki wanted a loop extension installed so they could have animations without needing actual animated images. If this is the case, I was going to point out that, since Javascript is being used anyways, it would be possible to create a pure JS solution to this (making use of class names), without needing any additional extensions (though I myself don't know nearly enough about coding in JS to create such a solution). ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 02:03, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
Well that discussion was on this page to start with, and the extension has already been installed. Feel free to go to the template page, or to the admin's talk page and discuss your ideas there. Technically, the specifics of that discussion don't really belong on the Director's page but rather on the template page. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 02:17, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
I've actually been intending to have a closer look at that template at some point anyways; I have the nagging feeling that its code/logic could be simplified by a decent amount (not that I am suggesting anything about Ultradude's coding skills; he did an amazing job on the template as is ;) ). ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 03:09, 30 March 2011 (UTC)

Registering a bot and :pl mediawiki configuration[]

Hi, I want to use a bot account. Is it possible to register User:R2-D2 and fr:Utilisateur:R2-D2 (on the french wiki) as bots? Thanks

Also I have issues with the pl wiki when I was testing the bot:

Error downloading data: No JSON object could be decoded
Request pl:/api.php?action=query&meta=siteinfo&siprop=magicwords&format=json"

Do you have any idea of what is the problem? – Scaler (t) 09:06, 31 March 2011 (UTC)

First off, what do you want to do with the bots? We already have 2 bots on the English wiki, I'm not sure there is a need for a 3rd.
I'm not sure what the bot error is, I will ask about it. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 09:13, 31 March 2011 (UTC)
On the English wiki just fixing/adding interwiki links. Thanks for adding the bot flag on the French wiki. I will add the projects log on the bot page soon.
It seems the error is due to the fact that the "scriptpath" on the pl version is different than on the other languages versions (ex with the main page pl.minecraftwiki.net/Strona_główna while on en it is: www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Minecraft_Wiki)
I think I will have the same problem with the ru wiki. I will first try to look if this is configurable on my bot options. – Scaler (t) 09:34, 31 March 2011 (UTC)
It seems the error with the pl: wiki, comes from a special character (BOM, Chacter Issues on mediawiki.org) on the api.php or an other edited file. Is it possible to save them as utf8 without BOM? Thanks – Scaler (t) 22:21, 31 March 2011 (UTC)
Unfortunately not that I know of, it's because of the polish alphabet. Since it's the polish language wiki, we are not going to disable the polish alphabet. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 22:46, 31 March 2011 (UTC)
I agree to not doing that ^^", but BOM is not part of the polish alphabet, it is just a useless character added by crappy text editors like windows notepad when the file is save in utf8 encoding (more info here: BOM). The only way to fix it, is to open the file with a good text editor (notepadd++ for example) and without editing the file to save it in utf8-without-bom encoding. – Scaler (t) 07:36, 1 April 2011 (UTC)
I will talk to our techs about it and see if it's something that can be resolved. I don't have direct access to backend stuff. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 07:53, 1 April 2011 (UTC)
Do you have any news about this, please? I am a little frustrated not being able to use my bot on fr: to fix interwiki links ^^". – Scaler (t) 15:27, 13 April 2011 (UTC)

Hey Wynthyst, guess who jumped on the Minecraft bandwagon? ^^

I was wondering how to make new pages, or at least, how to register correctly (since that should let me do that). Clicking the link on the main page just goes to the log in page, then back to the main. Cant make a user page, but can make talk pages. Is this the way this wiki is set up, or is it just me (the likely answer, with my luck). Couldn't find a page to put a topic like this on either, and your the only friendly face.

Pleasure running in to you here! —Neithan Diniem 08:09, 3 April 2011 (UTC)

We had some spam issues, so, you have to get autoconfirmed before you can create new pages. (3 days and 10 edits) Just make some typo corrections or some such and wait the 3 days. Watch your usergroups in preferences. Nice to see you here too. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 08:33, 3 April 2011 (UTC)
Ah, thought that it would be something like that. Good idea. Prevent problems from starting up too easily and all. Now just to find typos or whatnot... —Neithan Diniem 09:09, 3 April 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, you can make any type of edit (I think even talk page posts count ~ go find the other GWW crowd and say hi :D) -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 09:11, 3 April 2011 (UTC)

Alright, I admit those posts were over the top. But with the Pigman one, I removed myself, the wolf creeper thing actually ended up having a positive response (with the nether and wolves), the last two I admit were spam, but overall, about 90% of my userpage-related and community portal contributions are questions...I don't wish to talk about this anymore. --Rocĸetor talk 11:33, 4 April 2011 (UTC)

I got an error on the Dutch wiki will you might take a look at it?

The error I get: Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in /home/minecraftwiki/public_html/includes/parser/Preprocessor_DOM.php on line 980

It's on the Dutch Crafting page. I keep getting the error, even after several refreshes.

I noticed you've added the directors page to the sidebar, which is great, but it also shows up for people that aren't in the directors group, which is rather useless to them. Would it be possible to make it only show up for directors group? Or was this intended functionality? –ultradude25 (T|C) at 07:42, 5 April 2011 (UTC)

If every person who is a director (and no one else) is a member of a given usergroup, JS could be added to MediaWiki:Common.js which checks if the user is a member of said group and, if not, to hide the link (the logic could also work in reverse, though that might be a bit more work). ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 08:08, 5 April 2011 (UTC)
There's no harm in everyone being able to see it, I mean, it's not exactly "hidden" or secret. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 16:16, 5 April 2011 (UTC)
It's not about harm, it's about usefulness. Anyone not in the directors group now has a link in their sidebar with no use. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 23:54, 5 April 2011 (UTC)

Why would German players be looking for English names? And no, I don't believe there is a way without using the semantic extension which we don't have. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 09:51, 9 April 2011 (UTC)
In the game, everything is described in English. Therefore, we know only this names. Too bad that there is no alternative. -- Oliver Scholz - de.Wiki Admin 10:15, 9 April 2011 (UTC)

Notch said this on twitter:

'how about making minecarts act like lava boats?'

And people added it to the 1.5 section. And he said it a day before the update (today). Should we automatically add items he just either announces or suggests to the next version, or should we only add announced ones, and suggests to the 'items' set? Because notch never said he was going to add lava minecart boats in 1.5. --Rocĸetor talk 21:39, 18 April 2011 (UTC)

No. Anything that has not actually been added to the game, can be added to the wiki, but it has to be tagged as a {{tl|future}} feature. The article should have clear references cited, and be obvious that it is not yet implemented into the game. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 00:14, 19 April 2011 (UTC)

not enough pages? really?[]

Some days ago you say the german Wiki has not enough pages, respectively the english version has much more pages. Today I look why:

  • some redirects like "Grey sheep" in the "All Pages" list (en:1126 total / de:339 total)
  • other languages (ko, sp, ...)
  • when i click at Special:AllPages I see ~1500 pages, why?

Today we have 322 content pages, the english wiki 801. I think with this background knowledge that is a good value.

Greetings -- Oliver Scholz - Wiki Admin 16:59, 29 April 2011 (UTC)

I agree Oliver, the German wiki is doing better than most of the other languages. I do however see 82 pages listed on your "Wanted pages" list, I know most are redirects for English terms, and that's ok, but it's something that can be fixed. My concern is not so much with the German wiki, as with some of the others... Again, I think you guys are doing a great job! -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 02:20, 1 May 2011 (UTC)

The loop limit was increased. Please let me know if it is still an issue. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 16:12, 12 May 2011 (UTC)
thanks for your effort, but i don’t see any changes. Talk:Tutorials/Tree farming#Prettier diagrams is an example of a single drawing being too big, and it still breaks at the same spot as before. – Flying sheep 23:06, 30 May 2011 (UTC)
Then you are going to have to find a different way to present it because the limit was increased to the maximum that our IT department will allow. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 23:32, 30 May 2011 (UTC)
You misunderstood me: I wouldn’t write anything (but praise) here, if the limit just wouldn’t have been raised “enough”;
But as previously said, the “Maximum number of loops have been performed” occurs at the exact same spot as before (after 99 loops or so).
Maybe they didn’t increase the loop limit, but something else? I guess, the loop limit is “ExtLoops::$maxLoops” – Flying sheep 09:06, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
I understand. You were asking that it be set to -1, which is unlimited, and the IT team is not willing to do that, having examined the affect that would have on server performance. They raised the limit to the highest level they are willing to allow it to be. If it is not enough to do what you wish, you need to come up with a different way to present the data. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 19:28, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
Wtf? How is it possibe that you misunderstood me this hart the second time in a row?
  1. They didn’t rise it AT ALL.
  2. Not a single loop more than before.
  3. It was 100 loops before i asked, it is 100 loops now.
  4. Not even 101.
  5. Increased by Zero.
Got me? This is the second time in this conversation that you forced me to reword the exact same fact, which I’m sure I have expressed clearly the first time.
Are you kidding me? You have to be kidding me. – Flying sheep 22:32, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
All I can tell you is that when I addressed this issue to the tech team they told me it had been raised to the limit they were willing to raise it to. If that means it was left at 100, then that's the limit they are willing to raise it to. I understand your frustration, you wish to do something and it's not possible because of someone else's decision. It sucks.. but please don't shoot the messenger. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 22:37, 31 May 2011 (UTC)
I don’t :) But “raised” means to me that it was actually increased by a positive number.
And I was only angry because I thought you hadn’t read what i wrote, but you obviously just use the term “raise” if the amount of raising is Zero. I mean: If they thought that they couldn’t raise it, they would have told you that, instead of “OK, we raised it, happy looping”.
I think they made a mistake without noticing it, and told you it was done, while in truth, nothing happened. :Would you please give me an email address from one of them or ask them if it was really raised? – Flying sheep 22:47, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

Chinese Translation[]

Hi, I am the leader of the Chinese translation project. If it becomes the Chinese Minecraftwiki, do I get to be an admin or bureaucrat?

Page Creation[]

Can only admins create pages? I wanted to make a page on Herobrine and the giant. --BlogDog1231 00:36, 11 May 2011 (UTC)

First of all, there is not a page on Herobrine, because it doesn't actually exist in the game, and the community has decided it doesn't belong on the wiki. Secondly, you can create pages once you are a member of the Autoconfirmed user group. That requires you make 10 standard edits, and wait 3 days from the day you register your account. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 00:44, 11 May 2011 (UTC)

Adding pages of Mobs and items from Mods?[]

I think this would be interesting, and it would keep me quite busy. --BlogDog1231 22:54, 16 May 2011 (UTC)

Terraria Wiki[]

Hi there! You wanted me to contact you about my Terraria Wiki?

I only just saw your message, I have been moving house and haven't had time to check it recently.

Image error[]

While working on the Dutch wiki, I find some weird error:

As you see, I tried renaming a file, but its says the file already exists. But if I try to view the 'already existing file', it says that it doesn't exist... --STS(t|c) 21:17, 20 May 2011 (UTC)

I will have to talk to the tech guys on Monday. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 21:24, 20 May 2011 (UTC)

You spelled my name wrong on the link on my talk page. You said "User:Ilovekitten" instead of "User:Ilovekittens" Remember the s in my name next time. Minecrafter 00:43, 21 May 2011 (UTC)

Well, had you posted the page in the right place to begin with there wouldn't be an issue would there? Btw, you signature needs to include a link to your userpage and should resemble your username-- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 00:49, 21 May 2011 (UTC)

WTF? I posted some thing else here and THIS comes up? God, what on earth is going on? I need a new iPhone. –The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ilovekittens (Talk|Contribs) . Please sign your posts with ~~~~

Hey Wynthyst, would you mind explaining what this template is for? I seem to have been mistaken when I tagged it for deletion as a vandal template, but I can't figure out what its purpose might be - as far as I can tell, it should just result in the insertion of a string of random-looking characters when transcluded, though said string doesn't appear either on the template itself, or when manually copy-pasted and previewed - is it some sort of seed or hash value or something? ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 05:44, 26 May 2011 (UTC)

It is part of something the Curse devs are working on. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 05:45, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
Aah, cool. Sorry for the deletion trouble I caused, then. =) ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 05:53, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
Not a problem.. Telshin doesn't often do things directly, I'm not surprised you didn't recognize his name. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 07:34, 26 May 2011 (UTC)
All right, thanks. =) If you're willing/when you can divulge more on what the devs are working on with this, I'd be quite interested in hearing about it; I'm a bit of a techie myself and this has decidedly piqued my interest. =) ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 15:57, 26 May 2011 (UTC)

Seeing as I can't:[]

Could you create the page Mods/Nummynoms for me so I can edit it? It is my mod and I would like a wiki page for it, I am unable to create a page yet and there is nothing left on the wiki to contribute (as far as I can tell anyway) –The preceding unsigned comment was added by Kyle Craft (Talk|Contribs) . Already did. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 23:51, 30 May 2011 (UTC)
