- Just sticking my nose in here. Generally, the only way to get a truly static IP address is to pay your ISP for one. In general, all ISP's offer internet access through a Dynamic DNS block, where you may have the same IP address for months, or, it may change daily. If you are serious about needing a static IP, then I would recommend contacting your ISP, it will probably cost you a bit, sometimes as little as $5/mo, sometimes more, and some ISP's don't offer static IP's unless you on a business class plan. -- Wynthyst

Server discussion
It was so long I continued it here. From what I've been reading, Wynthyst is correct. Windows XP has a function to use a static IP, but the DNS is the big problem. But I may have managed to port forward my Minecraft from port 25565 to my home computer. When I tried to do the static thing, the internet didn't work and Google Chrome reported a DNS error. — t numbermaniac c 21:42, 13 August 2013 (UTC)
- I'm wondering whether a static ip is necessary now, I managed to declare Minecraft as a game assigned to my home computer on port 25565. And it didn't ask for the IP, just the computer's name. I must get a friend of mine to test it. — t numbermaniac c 21:53, 13 August 2013 (UTC)

- Hm... can you leave the server open for a little while? If your friend could open it, I might be able to-unless the continent I'm on matters. File:Meeples10 signature.png ᐸ Talk
Lesee here... 9 hours will be... nope, can't manage. Hmm... --Sheepuff20 (T|C) 22:40, 13 August 2013 (UTC)
- The repeated "u" tags are unnecessary. All you need is one before your talk link and a close after your edits link.
- This is why I said I would have to ask a friend who lives in the same country as me, because America is 14-16 hours behind Australia :(. — t numbermaniac c 02:38, 14 August 2013 (UTC)

- Maybe you could open the server platform before school, Numbermaniac, and leave it up all day? If I was op and whitelisted, I could build a spawnpoint for you. Meeples10 Talk

Edits 21:03, 14 August 2013 (UTC)- That isn't an option, we don't leave our home computer on. And the server runs on the home computer. Thanks for the offer though. The reason I said its working is because i could join via IP instead of by "localhost". — t numbermaniac c 21:49, 14 August 2013 (UTC)

Number, if you told me how you did it I could, and I could keep it open because I often forget to turn my laptop off... --Sheepuff20 (T|C) 22:23, 14 August 2013 (UTC)

- Well, when I first got it I thought it wasn't real good, because I had no idea how to control it. Now I've gotten used to it. And thanks. And one question: does it change the external ip, internal, or both? --Sheepuff20 (T|C) 03:08, 15 August 2013 (UTC)
- internal. it is what uers would use to connect. — t numbermaniac c 03:10, 15 August 2013 (UTC)

- Numbermaniac, there is Bukkit software that allows you to keep the server up without actually leaving the window up. Meeples10 Talk

Edits 10:25, 15 August 2013 (UTC)- Actually just double clicking craftbukkit.jar opens the server without a GUI. The only way to get a GUI is to use command prompt, which doesn't look brilliant. :(. But the only way to end the server if you double click is to end it through task manager. — t numbermaniac c 21:51, 15 August 2013 (UTC)

- I just completely redid my userspace today, and filled up the recent changes with edits and almost 30 new pages. I also made a new sig. user:Meeples10 talk ~ contribs 23:28, 24 August 2013 (UTC)
