Music discs[]

2 questions abou my suggestion for the trivia:

  1. What I did was I figured out that it is 49 by first figureing out that there is a 100% chance you will get a song you don't have on the first attempt. On the second attempt, one is taken, so there is an 11 in 12 chance you will get a new one, so on average, this will take 12 elevenths of an attempt before you succeed. And so on. After 12 succeces, you have all the songs. When you add up the average numbers of attempts for a success for each song, you will get about 49 (check a calculator)
  2. Why is it not a good trivia? 04:06, 27 February 2015 (UTC)

I notice you deleted the page "Test" and protected it from creation. What was wrong with the page? 14:31, 18 May 2015 (UTC)

It does not fit our notability guidelines, as it likely just contained a test edit. It also is a high target for test edits, which belong on the MCW:Sandbox instead. KnightMiner t/c 15:12, 18 May 2015 (UTC)
Test pages tend to clutter the wiki without adding anything useful. You can either use the dedicated sandbox KnightMiner mentioned, or create an account and make a test page in your userspace. -- Orthotopetalk 15:47, 18 May 2015 (UTC)
Didn't it redirect to MCW:Sandbox? 22:31, 18 May 2015 (UTC)
Even if it did, cross namespace redirects are generally avoided, as the main namespace is for pages about Minecraft, so you would not expect a page there to bring you to a page about the Minecraft Wiki. There are a few exceptions, but those are only kept because they were shortcuts before we had the MCW: shortcut. KnightMiner t/c 01:58, 19 May 2015 (UTC)

Neither is different color wood fences, but that's there. Same with custom flat worlds. They never explicitly say what's apart of what update until they submit it for approval by Sony and Microsoft via the change logs. But we still add them because they mention them on Twitter. And always if they says it's planned for a future update, but not the next one, they explicitly do say that. Precedent is the greatest tool when editing a wiki like this. Giant Epic Walls[]

Hi there!

Noticed that you removed a photo I posted to the Wiki, named Giant Epic Walls. Just wanted to clear out that the photo was part of a failed attempt at adding the photo to the Amplified page, mainly because I have no idea how to add photos to articles using the source mode. Just wanted to clear this out since some wikis have a Zero-tolerance level for unnecessary photos (Im unsure if this applies for this Wiki, so I just want to be sure). I crossed the photo out and thought it was deleted, but I must clearly have been wrong about that...

--FantasiIFrittFall (talk) 18:36, 28 June 2015 (UTC)

Sometimes people have tried to use the wiki as a hosting service – uploading files here just to link to them from other sites – so I tend to delete new files if it doesn't look like there's been an attempt to put it on an article within a few hours of uploading. It's nothing personal, and you're welcome to upload it again if you think you can add it to the article. (Whether or not other editors will think it's a useful image is another issue, which I don't have control over.)
Wiki syntax can be tricky to learn. Sometimes you can copy another part of the article and modify it to do what you want. There's a comprehensive guide to images on MediaWiki. We also have a sandbox page where you can make test edits without worrying about breaking any articles. -- Orthotopetalk 01:09, 29 June 2015 (UTC)

Consistent reverting/adding unsourced info/moving pages without discussing from Tyevskyo[]

Hi, In the last few days I have noticed that Tyevskyo has been consistently moving pages without discussing, adding unsourced info, and reverting changes made by admins. It's really annoyed me to the point where i need to report him.

Below are some example pages of him adding unsourced info, moving pages without discussing, and/or reverting changes from admins (You'll need to review the edit history to see this):

  1. Pocket Edition version history
  2. Pocket Edition Alpha 0.12.0
  3. Pocket Edition version history/Development versions

For example today I had to undo his mess created by him moving the third page into "Pocket Edition Version History/Alpha/Development versions". Because of this I am requesting a block to his account for at least 2 weeks, add more if you find it necessary. That's all I ask for. --MarioProtIV (talk) 00:14, 11 July 2015 (UTC)

If a user's behavior needs discussing, it should generally be brought it to the admin noticeboard, rather than a single admin's talk page.
Though in this case, I would suggest you attempt to discuss this with Tyevskyo on his talk page first. Just blocking him for something like disruptive behavior without mentioning what behavior is disruptive is not constructive. KnightMiner t/c 01:00, 11 July 2015 (UTC)
Ah ok, thanks, I will discuss this with him. --MarioProtIV (talk) 01:13, 11 July 2015 (UTC)
I did stop after you gave me a reason. I was not mercilessly editing pages, I was simply making the pages more accurate by adding "Alpha", and I was not continually undoing Admin work. Tyevskyo (talk) 16:12, 12 July 2015 (UTC)
Infact, you did the exact same thing to me, so I wouldn't be talking. Also this means your a hypocrite and that whatever punishment I get you should get as well Tyevskyo (talk) 16:12, 12 July 2015 (UTC)
I will also mention how my information is not unsourced (due to the fact that it says alpha on Template:version history nav), also you're the only one bothered by this so therefore you are the nuisance. I rest my case. Tyevskyo (talk) 16:19, 12 July 2015 (UTC)
MCPE is not in beta yet so moving all those pages to have "Alpha" in it is just unnecessary at this time. When a PE dev announces that the next version will be in the Beta phase, then it can be moved. You, however didn't bring it up with the admins. --MarioProtIV (talk) 17:53, 12 July 2015 (UTC)

Collapsed list[]

I know I may sound stupid for putting it here, but how would I get a collapsible list to work in an infobox (Story Mode)? Here's an example on the Tales from the Borderlands Wikipedia page (Its near the bottom of the infobox). -BDJP (t|c) 03:12, 28 August 2015 (UTC)

Looks like Wikipedia uses a template and Lua module, which we could import if necessary. I'm not sure if a regular collapsible wikitable (i.e., {| class="wikitable collapsible collapsed" ...) would work in an infobox, but it doesn't hurt to try (using show preview or a sandbox page). -- Orthotopetalk 03:52, 28 August 2015 (UTC)

What did you mean by unexplained changes? The BlobsPaper JE2 BE2.png 22:44, 18 September 2015 (UTC)

The effects of difficulty setting, regional difficulty, etc. as documented on the page are based on analysis of the Minecraft source code by several contributors, including Anomie x and myself. I believe it is accurate and complete, at least for 1.8; I haven't tried to make sense of the obfuscated 1.9 snapshots yet. You added a claim that difficulty affects the number of mobs that spawn, but without providing any source code analysis, a changelog or other relevant statement from Mojang, or any other sort of evidence to support that claim. I'm willing to add this to the page if you can provide proof, but we can't just take your word for it; this wiki has enough trouble with people adding misleading or false information already. -- Orthotopetalk 00:13, 19 September 2015 (UTC)

Mentioned features/Sky Dimension[]

Recently you have reverted my edit adding the {{Removedstillingame}} template to the Sky Dimension page, saying "it's still been completely removed." I believe you are wrong, because on the page it even states "However, starting in Beta 1.9-pre3, it was given its own region: Region 2, with Region 1 being the Nether." which means that the code for th Sky Dimension is still in the game. The page also states "Using various mods it is possible to access this currently unfinished version of the Sky Dimension." which further proves that the code is in the game and that the template should be used. Wolffillms (talk) 19:01, 11 November 2015 (UTC)

Sometime after Beta 1.9 – probably in 1.0, but I'm not sure of the exact version – the Sky Dimension code was removed completely. There is no longer any code for generating Sky Dimension terrain, and nothing uses Region 2. The statement about being accessible using mods is referring to Beta 1.6 and Beta 1.7, not current versions. -- Orthotopetalk 19:32, 11 November 2015 (UTC)
The information on that page dates back to 2011: the Region 2 bit was included in October that year and the bit about using various mods was included in May. Is there any indication that this is all still the case? I doubt it. If we're talking about what's enabled by mods, maybe you can identify which 1.7 or 1.8 (release versions) mods can still do this. If we're talking about what's left in the code, we have users here who could probably identify such anomalies, though I think it would be a fair bit of effort. Either way I don't see evidence for it. – Sealbudsman talk/contr 19:40, 11 November 2015 (UTC)

Request block user BDJP007301[]

BDJP007301 is spreading false information and has deleted the console planned versions page multiple times. XAJR187x (talk) 15:46, 11 December 2015 (UTC)

Knock it off. He may have added false information, but in any case he did not know it was false, so he is not intentionally adding incorrect information. He also has never made edits trying to harm the wiki, so why do you as a new user here assume he is suddenly trying to harm the wiki? Assume good faith!
The correct course of action here is to attempt to discuss this with him (as maybe he has a good source it was released). Don't go around asking for a block because he does something you disagree with (and don't say you already tried discussing it with him, you left all of ten minutes for him to respond before asking for a block). It happens when two people try to undo an edit at the same time. One person submits the change first, and their name appears in the logs. The article text the second person submits is identical to the latest version, so MediaWiki ignores it without giving any errors or warnings. -- Orthotopetalk 23:20, 19 March 2016 (UTC)

Crafting Templates[]

So I wrote a nice little message with formalities and everything, but for some reason my message did not save when I saved the page. Anyway, I'm SamwiseFilmore, an Admin on the Wiki for the lotr mod (here), and we have an image problem. We use png's to show crafting, and with more than 8,000 uploads, it would be easier to use a system like you have here. A few questions. If you aren't the person to ask, please point me towards the correct talk page. First of all, is it legal for us to use what you have made here? If it is, then how hard would it be to migrate to wikia for use, and get entirely set up with as many (if not more) assets as regular Vanilla Minecraft has? ~Samwise 20:14, 11 April 2016 (UTC)

Majr is a better person to ask, as he's more familiar with how the crafting templates work. I'm not a lawyer, but my understanding is that it probably wouldn't be okay to copy the system directly, since the CC-BY-NC-SA license here requires content to be redistributed under the same license, and Wikia uses the slightly different CC-BY-SA license. -- Orthotopetalk 23:05, 11 April 2016 (UTC)
Alright, I pointed him to this thread. I'll post a message on the wall of one of our admins who knows how to do this better than I. ~Samwise 02:27, 12 April 2016 (UTC)
Well... if you documented the mod on the :ftb: wiki (which, despite the name, documents mods in general), you wouldn't have any issues with licensing, plus they already have some modified version of our crafting system. ;)
Otherwise, if whatever legal issues were resolved, you'd at least need Scribunto and DPL extensions installed first, then the basic crafting template should just require Template:Crafting and its module and dependencies, and the styling from MediaWiki:Common.css for .invslot, .mcui and .sprite (also .animated, and the element animator script from MediaWiki:Common.js, if you want animation). Then you'd set up a sprite containing all the images you want for crafting (see Template:InvSprite for examples, you essentially need Module:InvSprite, Module:InvSprite/IDs, :File:InvSprite.png and the .inv-sprite styling in Common.css), then perhaps make some minor modifications, such as removing the ingredient categories from Module:Crafting (the automated crafting usage is a whole other kettle of fish you probably wouldn't want to deal with), then it will probably work. MajrTalk
04:23, 13 April 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for posting. This is probably an insanely stupid question for a number of reasons, the foremost being that it is probably going completely against how the scripts are structured. But anywho, would it be possible to use many smaller icons instead of a sprite image? Smaller icons is a lot more files, and might be dirtier in some ways, but cleaner in other ways, especially in the file change record department. Also easier to make... ~Samwise 01:24, 14 April 2016 (UTC)
It originally used individual icons (many of them still exist), so you can find an old version to do that, however the performance will be far worse, both server-side and client-side. MajrTalk

Redirect delete[]

I realized I left a number of redirects (some that you have removed), so how do I remove redirects to save admins from having to find and remove them all? | AndrewAB (talk) 08:17, 6 July 2016 (UTC)

Only admins can delete pages, but don't worry about it. Redirects aren't inherently bad, and are often quite useful. The main issue is that double redirects (ones that point to another redirect page) don't work, so when moving pages you should check for and fix them. I was just cleaning up double redirects and since those ones weren't linked to by anything, I decided to delete them instead of fixing them to point to the actual page. -- Orthotopetalk 18:57, 6 July 2016 (UTC)

The originals cropped the player instead of excessive background border, had a bit of a side view of the cape instead of just the back, and had less distracting backgrounds instead of a checkerboard of random blocks that don't even appear vanilla. Plus, where relevant the original had the actual cape owners skin (for those special exclusive to a player ones). In any case, the only real improvements that would be relevant would be replacing the skins with a generic Steve or Alex or removing the background entirely, neither of which your pictures did (instead doing the opposite in a few cases). What I meant in my edit summary was that in pages, enchantment names are supposed to be manually capitalized, according to another revert that Sealbudsman did. The BlobsPaper JE2 BE2.png 20:09, 30 January 2017 (UTC)

Our style guide does call for enchantments to be capitalized. However, we don't have control over links from other websites, such as the forums. -- Orthotopetalk 20:41, 30 January 2017 (UTC)

1.4.1 and 1.6.3[]

These pages were deleted by you many years ago because you said they don't exist. However, they can be downloaded from Mojang's AWS hosting just like any other version:

Do you think these pages should be un-deleted?

HalfOfAKebab (talk) 18:07, 15 April 2017 (UTC)

Those are actually 1.4.1-pre and 1.6.3-pre; for some reason Mojang incremented the version numbers to 1.4.2 and 1.6.4 for the official release. -- Orthotopetalk 21:36, 15 April 2017 (UTC)
Hmm... I've just loaded up 1.6.3, and the version number in-game is 1.6.3 (not 1.6.3-pre). Where was "1.6.3-pre" first mentioned? (HalfOfAKebab (talk) 23:22, 15 April 2017 (UTC))
Version number internally was still 1.6.3, as with all pre-releases, the point of a pre-release is its a close to a release as possible without being a release. KnightMiner t/c 03:30, 16 April 2017 (UTC)
How come the filename is 1.6.3, and not 1.6.3-pre, like the other filenames are (unless I'm mistaken)? HalfOfAKebab (talk) 15:19, 17 April 2017 (UTC)

to all admins[]

To GamePedia. Why is the AdBlock Plugin not working on your site? Tried blocking stuff and there seems to be a script that is causing adblock to hang. Please Fix it. I dont want consumers getting ripped off by the third party advertisers. I have no problem with paying $14.95 per year. I wish every regular user would pay that. Everyone buys a coffee every 3 months. No-one would notice the payment every month or year. Children regularly access this site. They don't need to be seeing ads. They have no money for a start and parents never listen to nagging children when they want something 16:54, 27 June 2017 (UTC)

The site is not responsible for third-party addons not working, or breaking the site. It is up to the addon maintainers to make sure they work correctly. The official way to remove ads, among other benefits, is to buy Gamepedia Pro, or contribute to the wiki enough to get it for free. MajrTalk

You protected the talk page guidelines for too long[]

Could you remove the protection from MCW:Talk page guidelines? A one-week protection is long enough; no need to unnecessarily make it any longer. VeenM64 (talkcontribslogsblock log) 🐷🥕☮️ 17:20, 9 November 2017 (UTC)

Considering that page (like all the policy/guideline pages) should not generally be edited without discussion first anyways, and also that you're one of the participants in the edit war that garnered the protection in the first place (and as far as I can see, at no point have you raised the topic of your edit for discussion anywhere - though correct me if I'm wrong), I'm not seeing why it's so important for the protection duration to be reduced. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 17:45, 9 November 2017 (UTC)
The protection length is absurdly long in proportion to the frequency of the edits constituting the edit war (only a few hours apart from each other). I even explicitly stated in one of my edits that I wished not to edit war, and yet the page still got protected. VeenM64 (talkcontribslogsblock log) 🐷🥕☮️ 21:24, 10 November 2017 (UTC)
If you "wished not to edit war", the correct course of action would have been to start a discussion, and not make further edits to the page. The fact that, outside of this, the page is very infrequently edited means that having a long protection duration is unlikely to disrupt any actual editing - insofar as it's an argument in either direction, it actually points to supporting longer protection durations, not shorter ones. In addition, the fact that you're still trying to get the protection dropped now, several days after it was applied, suggests you're willing to just wait out the protection and resume things as you were beforehand. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 23:48, 10 November 2017 (UTC)
"An argument in either direction"? What's that? VeenM64 (talkcontribslogsblock log) 🐷🥕☮️ 00:32, 11 November 2017 (UTC)
In the specific way I used it, I meant using the frequency of edits to argue either for or against a longer protection duration. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 01:12, 11 November 2017 (UTC)
I don't have much to add beyond what Dinoguy has already said. If anything, I may not have set the protection long enough: perhaps policy pages should have permanent full protection, only editable by admins after there is discussion and consensus on the talk page.
Also, your attitude suggests you want the protection removed so you can make the same changes again. That would count as continued edit-warring, and like any other form of disruptive editing, would result in admin intervention. -- Orthotopetalk 19:17, 13 November 2017 (UTC)
You shouldn't even have applied the protection in the first place. Have you heard of Wikipedia's three-revert rule? I only made two reverts, not three. Add to that the fact that I clearly stated (in one of my edit summaries) that I did not wish to edit war (which should have indicated to you that I would not have made any further reverts), and it becomes clear that this is an abuse of admin privileges. VeenM64 (talkcontribslogsblock log) 🐷🥕☮️ 19:36, 13 November 2017 (UTC)
At least your edit summary didn’t hide the fact that you still edited the page without discussion. -BDJP (t|c) 19:52, 13 November 2017 (UTC)
You saying "I wish not to edit war" and then edit warring does not actually excuse you from edit warring. That's like if someone vandalizes while at the same time saying they "don't wish to vandalize" and then complain that they get blocked for vandalizing. Or blatantly saying "don't look at me making this rule-breaking edit". I assume you yourself did not read the page you linked. Even in the summary of the page, it states: "The three-revert rule is a convenient limit for occasions when an edit war is happening fairly quickly, but it is not a definition of "edit warring", and it is perfectly possible to edit war without breaking the three-revert rule, or even coming close to doing so.".
I see no reason for you to be complaining about the page protection unless you want to edit the page yourself against consensus, which will very simply result in the page being protected again (for the record, I fully agree that the page should not be editable by non-admins in the first place), and you'd possibly get yourself blocked for those actions. Skylinerw (talk) 19:55, 13 November 2017 (UTC)
Regardless of what you said in your edit summaries, you were edit-warring. Ortho protected the page at his discretion, and I agree with the protection; your behavior since then makes your motives here highly suspect, as Ortho stated. You are not going to wikilawyer your way around this - not using our policies and guidelines, and definitely not using Wikipedia's; the protection will stand, and the way things are going, there's a decent chance it may be extended indefinitely. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 20:07, 13 November 2017 (UTC)
Believe me: I don't want the protection to be removed simply so I can resume the edit-warring; I would like it to be removed because I feel it stems from a violation of one of the most fundamental principles of Wikipedia. I fully admit and understand that I violated rules as well, but deep down within my heart I wish nothing more than to positively contribute and to help this wiki out.
Here's why I made such an ironic statement: BDJP initially reverted my edit because it was an "unexplained removal". I already knew that edit-warring was wrong, but I thought that if I gave an explanation for the removal, the edit war would end. That's why I did that second revert with the explanation. I hope now that you see the validity of the "I wish not to edit war" statement, and I also hope that one of you removes the protection.
BTW, is it still possible to achieve consensus without any discussion by making a very convincing edit summary? VeenM64 (talkcontribslogsblock log) 🐷🥕☮️ 21:41, 13 November 2017 (UTC)
Since you insist on continuing to appeal to Wikipedia practices to make your case, I'm going to point you to BOLD, revert, discuss. Your initial edit was the "BOLD", and BDJP's revert was... well, self-explanatory. You then failed to proceed on to the "discuss" part.
The protection will stand. This is not negotiable. If someone requires an edit be made to the page before the protection expires, they can go through the usual channels (the talk page, the community portal, or the admin noticeboard) to make a request.
It certainly is possible to achieve consensus with an edit summary; that is effectively what happens every time someone makes an edit with an edit summary which goes unchallenged. However, your edit was challenged (and your subsequent behavior has been quite contentious), so you've lost the opportunity to do so in this case. Only a proper discussion will allow a consensus for your edit to be established now. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 00:48, 14 November 2017 (UTC)
@Orthotope: That protection was still unnecessary, in my opinion. I can literally guarantee you that I would never have made any further reverts to that page. VeenM64 (talkcontribslogsblock log) 🐷🥕☮️ 19:25, 15 November 2017 (UTC)
That may be. Fortunately, we didn't have to take you at your word. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 20:09, 15 November 2017 (UTC)

Translator Cape[]

I have already read the Reddit post. Can you explain were it shows concrete evidence of the cape’s name being ”cheapsh0t”? I can’t find it. If you can’t either please explain why the name should remain. Kian sama (talk) 22:20, 11 December 2017 (UTC)

I don't know if all of the capes have official names. However, as far as I can tell, cheapsh0t is the only person who has that particular cape, which is slightly different from the regular translator cape; therefore, it is logical to name it after him. I would agree with renaming it if there is evidence that other Japanese translators also have the same cape. -- Orthotopetalk 08:10, 12 December 2017 (UTC)

Microsoft Studios flair[]

It was mentioned to me by someone at Microsoft Studios that one of the Mojangsters is offended by the wiki assigning a dirt block as the flair for the non-Stockholm people. Apparently, it's a cultural sensitivity issue. It's not that it's a dirt block (which an American might see as degrading), it's that "they don’t like it when the community discriminates based on where a person is physically based because Swedish culture is all about equality". Do you know when and how the decision was made, and do you think we can discuss it? – Auldrick (talk · contribs) 02:29, 6 April 2018 (UTC)

Looks like it was added by Dinoguy here, so you should ask him about the reasoning behind it. I don't recall there being much discussion about it, but it may be hiding on a talk page I haven't checked. -- Orthotopetalk 11:10, 6 April 2018 (UTC)
I believe my reasoning was based in a comment of Majr's where he said he wasn't sure about adding the Mojang icon to Microsoft Studios and similar people, though where that comment was made I can't answer now. I don't feel very strongly about this either way, so I'd have no problem with everyone just using the same icon. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 11:20, 6 April 2018 (UTC)
