I tried adding some info, and got blocked because it was automatically determined as "Harmful"
Hey, man! So I was browsing the Wiki when I saw that the languages page needed editing. Specifically the Shakespearean English. So I added some info, and with a reference link as proof that this info is correct. Since the exact origins of Shakespear's English aren't very well known by most. However, for some reason, the wiki blocked me from adding this change. Said it automatically determined that my edit was harmful. Now, it says it's because I'm a new user ( really am ) trying to add a link. Here is what it said
"Your action has been automatically identified as harmful, and therefore disallowed. A brief description of the matched abuse rule for your action is: Global AF - New user adding link at end or in heading If you believe your edit was constructive, please post a message on the admin noticeboard or notify an admin directly."
So... Mind helping me with this? The info is pretty juicy and constructive in my opinion...
Thanks.–Preceding unsigned comment was added by Xxshadow reperxx (talk • contribs) at 11 July 2018 (UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~
- Hi Xxshadow reperxx, thank you for letting me know! Your edit was caught in something called the abuse filter - which is a filter that prevents bad edits, such as spam, but it occasionally hits false positives as well. As for this filter in specific, I've seen it hit a lot of false positives - however, it's is a global abuse filter rule, meaning that the local admins can't do anything about it except notify global admins. The good thing is that all admins are able to access edits that were caught in the abuse filter, so I am going to take a look at the edit you tried to make add it to the article. Also, once you've made 10 edits, you shouldn't have a problem with most of the abuse filters anymore. :)-- Madminecrafter12

Hi there. I wanted to let you know that my 7 year old son made the edits (using my twitch account) and we've talked about being sure information is correct before changing things. OLD Minecraft launcher will NOT update to a new minecraft launcher
I have tried updating the mine craft launcher. It didn't work. Did I do it wrong? What should i do next? --24.20.164.152 17:05, 24 July 2018 (UTC)
- Are you on Java Edition? If so, then 1.12.2 should update to 1.13 automatically. When clicking the current game version option in the launcher (the default), it should be 1.13. I apologize, I'm not an expert on this topic, particularly for other editions besides Java - you'll probably find better help on the Minecraft Forums. There's a link to the forums on the sidebar. :)-- Madminecrafter12

Donkeys, Mules, and Llamas.
On the Nintendo switch version of Minecraft, you cannot put chests into mules, donkeys, or llama. I’ve looked it up, I’ve tried, I’ve killed many of them trying even. I’ve tried every button, and while crouching as well. I’m sure it’s a glitch with the game, could this be addressed next update? –Preceding unsigned comment was added by 73.3.122.117 (talk) at 01:05, 26 July 2018 (UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~
- That is strange - it must be a bug. Do note that I'm not a Minecraft dev or anything of that sort, so I can't really fix the problem directly. However, you can easily create an account on the Bug Tracker and report the issue there! You would report it as a Bedrock Edition bug, as the Nintendo Switch version is part of BE. Additionally, there are also the Minecraft Forums where you can discuss Minecraft-related topics. Hope this helps!-- Madminecrafter12

I discovered that if you use a potion or tipped arrow on a creeper, when the creeper explodes, it will have the effect used on it linger like a lingering potion. this is in java edition 1.13 version.–Preceding unsigned comment was added by 73.72.221.37 (talk) at 9 August 2018 (UTC). Trying to create the Commands/schedule page
Since I'm a new user, I can't create the Commands/schedule page. Could you make it for me? Spiralio (talk) 15:21, 25 October 2018 (UTC)
- Hey Spiralio; absolutely, done. Honestly, I don't really like that edit filter; it basically restricts creation of new pages to only experienced users unless many different conditions are met; we might as well just formally disallow new users from creating pages altogether. Anyways, yeah, I've created it and given you the attribution. Let me know if you need help with anything else, and thank you for helping improve the Minecraft Wiki!-- Madminecrafter12

Disruptive editing on Tutorials/Defeating the ender dragon
User:205.174.240.232 has again reverted the section titles in this article, violating the style guide. I'd like to point out that this IP address belongs to an elementary school district in Cupertino, CA (per WHOIS). I am convinced this is the same person as User:162.234.248.192 for many reasons:
- The latter IP is owned by AT&T, an ISP that serves the west coast, which is compatible with the theory that 162 lives near Cupertino
- The timing of 162's edits coincide with mornings and evenings in California, and would be outside of elementary school hours
- There is never any overlap in time of editing between these two IPs
- They make identical edits and have recently focused exclusively on this article
- They have the same editing style of tons of rapid mini-edits at a time
- They both have ignored every attempt to communicate
I'm also convinced that 162.234.248.192 is the same person as User:TheFirePhoenix, based on comments on the latter's talk page and blocks performed by Orthotope at the end of August/beginning of September. TheFirePhoenix took a month-long break but has suddenly resumed today, editing (only) this article immediately following 205's edits. They also do not respond to communication attempts.
I feel like we've given this user ample time to notice and respond to our requests for communication, especially since on the rare occasions that they provide an edit summary, it seems to be a rebuttal of one of ours. This is been going on for 6 weeks; how much longer? – Auldrick (talk · contribs) 17:05, 25 October 2018 (UTC)
I forgot to mention that 205.174.240.232 (talk • contribs • logs • block log) began editing at exactly the time of Orthotope's blocks. – Auldrick (talk · contribs) 17:29, 25 October 2018 (UTC)
- Thank you Auldrick. I agree that the two IPs and account are no doubt the same, even just solely based off of behavioral evidence. I've issued 205.174.240.232 a final warning; I don't typically like to block good-faith contributors, particularly when they make many constructive contributions, but this user is refusing to communicate and a block is likely the only way to get them to stop. It's not so much the actual edits that are concerning as the fact that they are not willing to discuss the issue at all and just keep making the edit, edit warring. I've initially thought that blocking for a few hours or a day would suffice, but seeing as how 205 was already blocked for 1 day for edit warring and inserting outdated information, 162 was already blocked for a day for unexplained removal of content, and how TheFirePhoenix was already blocked for a day for removal of content, I would probably block for at least 3 days if any of the 3 IPs/accounts continue, as I believe that long of a block would be necessary to prevent disruption.-- Madminecrafter12

- Thanks for blocking them so quickly. BTW, I reverted 2 edits before I saw that the second one wasn't blatant vandalism/violation. I would have reverted it anyway, eventually, but I would have left an explanation. Sorry for not double checking first. – Auldrick (talk · contribs) 20:57, 25 October 2018 (UTC)
- No problem. I'll block the other IP or the account for 3 days if either of them starts editing, but they haven't yet, so for now I'm not going to worry about that. As I mentioned, I hate blocking good-faith contributors, but this one would not stop edit warring and refused to communicate with other editors; competence is required when editing wikis. I wouldn't worry about the fact that you accidentally didn't leave an explanation; mistakes happen, and in this case, the IP was repeating the exact same edits that they made before which you did leave an explanation as to why they were inappropriate, so an explanation probably wouldn't have been that useful by this point.-- Madminecrafter12

Suggestion for changing the icon of "Version development" section in the main page
Could you please consider my suggestion of changing the icon here for the section "Version development" in the main page? Thanks. Lê Duy Quang (Make some words | Contributions) 12:49, 5 November 2018 (UTC)

In addition, there are a number of other tasks you can do; including patrolling Special:RecentChanges and reverting vandalism using the undo button, updating new articles when new snapshots come out, creating new tutorials, going to a random page and seeing what you can improve on it, participating in discussions listed at the MCW:Community portal or its talk page... there's a lot you can do. How Do you patrol a page?
I do not know how to patrol a page, can you teach me? Talk to me Minecraftfixer
- @Minecraftfixer: Do you mean to formally mark an edit as patrolled? If so, then you'll need to have either the patroller right or adminstrator right, which are only given to trusted and experienced users. Marking an edit as patrolled essentially means that a patroller has looked it over and any major issues (e.g. vandalism, false information, major grammatical errors) have been fixed. Any one can patrol Special:NewPages, though, and Special:RecentChanges, and make constructive edits to the pages there. Do you mean something else?-- Madminecrafter12
