Suggestions of some features I would like to see in the game (primarily for Java edition, but can apply to other editions as well). All submissions to r/minecraftsuggestions are viewable here.

General[]

  • Option to disable fog in Vanilla (for people with lower-end computers)

Gameplay[]

Biome temperature[]

  • Fluctuates depending on daytime and weather (e.g. causing nights to be colder)[1]
  • Affects things like ice melting and crop growth, instead of only affecting snowing

Snowfall[]

  • More varied snowfall (though maybe not as extreme as Bedrock's snowfall mechanics)[2]
    • Snow tends to form thicker layers around walls/elevation changes
    • Small chance to stack to a maximum of 2 (or 3) layers

Status effects[]

  • "Shielding" effect that deflects projectiles, reduces knockback and deals knockback to all melee attackers (similar to deploying a shield, but no damage reduction)[3]
    • Also causes an "aura" to appear around the player (similar to that of charged creepers)
    • Naturally applied by Totem of Undying, but can be given through commands
    • Charged creepers could also have a similar effect when spawned by lightning

World generation[]

  • Tall grass in snow biomes replaced by small patches of thicker snow[2]

Blocks[]

Rails[]

  • A "diagonal rail" item that allows rails (of all types) to be placed diagonally, instead of the current awkward "squiggly" rails

Redstone components[]

  • "Comparative" versions of certain components where different signal strengths change the output[4]
    • Lamp: Brightness is equal to signal strength
    • Rails: Power levels closer to 0-7 decelerates minecarts (0 being strongest, 7 weakest). Levels 8-15 accelerate them (15 being strongest).
    • Pistons: Weakly powered pistons extend slower
    • Noteblock: Weaker signals decrease the volume/range.
    • Jukebox: Special redstone-activated version of Jukebox that stores the disk and plays it when activated by redstone, where signal strength affects volume sinilar to above
    • Hopper: Higher signal strengths slow the transfer rate, with 15 stopping it as with normal hoppers.

Items[]

Elytra[]

  • Instead of being able to instantly turn with the mouse, rolling is done with A and D and pitch control with W and S (allowing the mouse to look elsewhere while flying)
    • Rolling at high speeds causes the turn radius to be larger
  • Firework boosting increases speed slightly instead of instantly boosting to maximum speed

Fire charge[]

  • Can be thrown from the hand, but is affected by gravity and has a range similar to that of a splash potion

Totem of Undying[]

Mobs[]

Magma Cubes[]

  • Have 50-80% armor and deflect arrows while on the ground, but lose it when jumping
  • Set targets on fire for 2-4 seconds

Slimes[]

  • Apply Slowness to target (depending on its size)

Non-mob entities[]

Minecarts[]

  • When colliding with mobs, push the mob off the track instead of coming to a halt[5]
  • Can be linked with leads; the frontmost minecart controls the acceleration of the entire train.
  • Have a solid hitbox (like boats)
  • Faster top speed; running into a sharp curve causes a speed penalty instead of derailing

Furnace Minecarts[]

  • Change to have a GUI and smelt items similarly to furnaces (as powered rails make their current function obsolete)
