This page details a policy regarding how the next generation of home video game consoles should be documented on this wiki. For the absence of any doubt:
- The
Xbox One and
PlayStation 4 are current generation consoles.
- The
Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 are next generation consoles.
The following Minecraft games are available on current generation consoles:
- Minecraft (Bedrock Edition)
- Minecraft: Xbox One Edition
- Minecraft: PlayStation 4 Edition
- Minecraft Dungeons
- Minecraft: Story Mode
- Minecraft: Story Mode - Season Two
The following games have versions native to next generation consoles:
- Minecraft Dungeons (Xbox Series X|S only, no PS5 version)
The rest are playable on next generation consoles via backwards compatibility; they do not have versions native to the next generation consoles.
How to identify a next generation game[]
Xbox[]
Visit the game's page on the Microsoft Store. If the game has an "Optimised for Series X|S" label, it is an Xbox Series X|S game (or an Xbox One game with an Xbox Series X|S specific version). If it does not have this label, it is an Xbox One game.
Additionally, if the game has a "Smart Delivery" label, the game has both Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S versions, which the user is entitled to both, and the appropriate version for their console is automatically downloaded for them.
PlayStation[]
Visit the game's page on the PlayStation Store. If the game has a "PS5" label, it is a PlayStation 5 game. If the game has a "PS4" label, it is a PlayStation 4 game.
Additionally, if the game has both labels, the game has both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions. However, this does not necessarily mean that the player is entitled to both versions. It is up to the developer to implement an upgrade path, be in free or paid, limited-time or not.
