This page details a policy regarding how the next generation of home video game consoles should be documented on this wiki. For the absence of any doubt:
- The
Xbox One and
PlayStation 4 are current generation consoles.
- The
Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 are next generation consoles.
The following Minecraft games are available on current generation consoles:
- Minecraft (Bedrock Edition)
- Minecraft: Xbox One Edition
- Minecraft: PlayStation 4 Edition
- Minecraft Dungeons
- Minecraft: Story Mode
- Minecraft: Story Mode - Season Two
While all of the above games are playable on next generation consoles via backwards compatibility, none of these games have versions native to the next generation consoles.
How to identify a next generation game
Xbox
Visit the game's page on the Microsoft Store. If the game has an "Optimised for Series X|S" label, it is an Xbox Series X|S game. If it does not have this label, it is an Xbox One game.
Additionally, if the game has a "Smart Delivery" label, the game has both Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S versions, which the user is entitled to both, and the appropriate version for their console is automatically downloaded for them.
PlayStation
Visit the game's page on the PlayStation Store. If the game has a "PS5" label, it is a PlayStation 5 game.
