The Far Lands.

Far Lands is a dangerous place, both for player (due to lots of darkness, hostile mobs and falls) and the device Minecraft runs on. But, if you want to go to this place, here is how to reach it and lessen the lag.

How to reach

Far Lands are very, very far from the world center. They generate starting from ±12,550,821 blocks on any axis. However there are methods to reach them.

Methods titled in italics can't be done in Pocket Edition.

Walking

Walking is the most time consuming way, as to reach Far Lands from the world center takes over a month of overall Minecraft gameplay. However, below is the compromise. As you might have expected, there are people who have actually attempted to walk to the Far Lands legitimately.

Nether Portal

Walking 1 block in the Nether is equal to walking 8 blocks in the Overworld. Thus, by traveling through the Nether, it is possible to reach Overworld Far Lands in just over a week.

The best position of final portal in the Nether is before ±1,568,852 on any axis.

This method only works for reaching Overworld Far Lands.

Commands

Using commands, it is possible to teleport players into the Far Lands using /tp or a similarly named command like this:

  • /tp (<targets>|<destination>|<x>) or /tp (<targets>|<destination>|<x>) to teleport near the Edge Far Lands. Make sure flying is on or player damage is off, as it teleports above the height limit. 0 can be really anything in range -12,550,820 to 12,550,820.
  • /tp (<targets>|<destination>|<x>) to teleport near the Corner Far Lands. Also make sure you're protected from falling damage.

In both above cases, 12550800 can be negative.

In the Nether, these commands will teleport you above the top bedrock, so make sure to either teleport lower, turn "no-clip" on, use Spectator mode if possible, or a combination of them.

Avoiding lag

Far Lands is a laggy place, due to excessive coordinates and entities. However, it can be lessened by commands.

If Far Lands are ported (see below), command /kill @e[type=!Player] can be used to remove excessive entities (use 3 times per minute for greater efficiency), and /gamerule doEntityDrops false can disallow sand and gravel dropping as items. If not ported, use mods and/or multiplayer to get appropriate commands.

Porting terrain

Farlands1

An example of ported Far Lands terrain.

It is possible to port Far Lands terrain from pre-Beta 1.8 into modern versions. To do that, after starting a pre-Beta 1.8 world and later reaching the Far Lands, start going (or teleporting) around to generate the Far Lands, while getting rid of lag by the methods above. After generating the desired amount of terrain, convert the world into modern versions, and you have Far Lands terrain to do things with.
