This article is about Raiders of the Fortress Ruins. For Fortress Ruins Structure Itself, see Fortress Ruins.

Fortress Ruins are rare megastructures spawned in Nether, where Pig Spirit and Warthog Beast are spawned in large quantities.

The ruins of the fortress contain extremely precious treasures, but at the same time they also imply murderous intentions.

Find the ruins of the fortress

Fortress ruins spawn in the Nether Crimson Forest, Nether Wasteland, Soul Sand Canyon, and Spooky Forest Biome. Without cheating, exploring the biomes mentioned above is the only way.

With cheat turned on, you can find the fortress ruins by entering the /locate structure bastion_remnant command in the Nether, and there are also tools to help you find the location where the fortress ruins spawn, but you need to provide the map seed.

Biological Description

Main articles: pig spirit barbarian, pig spirit, warthog beast and magma monster

}

Pig Spirit Barbarian

Pig Spirit Barbarians are often difficult and extremely dangerous, and they can easily inflict significant damage on you. They are also different from pig spirits, and wearing gold armor will not prevent them from actively hostile to the player.

  • For security, you can use the enchanted BowCrossbow以及Trident and other ranged weapons attack from outside their enemy radius.
    • Unfortunately, the space of the remains of the fortress can be too small, and often by the time you find them, they are already very close.
  • Use Boat Sealing the Pig Spirit Barbarians is a good idea, but in Bedrock Edition, the Pig Spirit Barbarians will make other Pig Spirits hostile to you, so you still need to be wary.
  • When you have been a pig spirit barbarian or holding As the pig spirits of the Golden Sword approach, they continue to fight them off with their swords.

Pig Spirit

Compared to the Pig Spirit Barbarians, it has low damage and can be dodged with excellent diamond equipment.

  • The pig spirit of the cluster is still a threat, so you can choose to use the enchanted BowCrossbow以及Trident} clean them up at a distance.
  • Wearing a piece of gold armor seems to solve the problem once and for all, but it doesn't stop the Pig Spirit Barbarian and Warthog Beast from actively taking hostility to the player, and opening container items (such as chests) will still irritate the Pig Spirit.
    • in Bedrock Edition Pig Spirit Barbarians will turn the surrounding Pig Spirits into hostility and therefore require special attention.
  • When you open a chest, accidentally provoke the pig spirit, or dig up any gold-related blocks, and are besieged by a large group of pig spirits, you can drop some gold items that you carry with you, they can effectively slow down the pig spirit, it can be any gold item, but Gold Nugget is the most economical. If you're carrying only the armor you're wearing, consider temporarily surrounding yourself with blocks to avoid attack, as hostility caused by opening or destroying chests doesn't last long, but is lifted after 30 seconds.

Warthog

Warthogs will only spawn in Warthog sheds in the ruins of the fortress, and since Warthog sheds are relatively empty, it's a good idea to shoot from a distance.

  • You can use warped fungus to repel warthogs.
  • Try to avoid melee attacks, as their long attack range will cause you unexpectedly high damage, and may also knock you back into nearby lava.

Magma Monster

Magma monsters will only spawn from the brush monster cage at the bottom of the treasure room. Due to the lava in the treasure room, they pose a greater danger.

Magma Monster Brush Cages can't be sealed, so it's best to dig them up from a high place.

Prepare items

  • Diamond or Nether Alloy Sword
    • Recommended enchantments: Repel (repels melee enemies, but may put you in trouble against ranged enemies), [Sweeping Blade‌[JE only]} (against magma monsters and hordes of pigs), Sharp (valid for all monsters found in the fortress ruins), Flame Addition (effective for pig spirits, pig spirit barbarians, and warthog beasts).
  • BowCrossbow
    • If the bow has the Infinite spell, only one [arrow is required, if there is no infinite bow, or crossbow, or if you use potion arrows, then at least one set is required (more may be required using the "repeating crossbow" strategy).
    • Fireworks rockets can also be used as ammunition for crossbows.
  • trident (optional), used instead of a bow, preferably with the loyalty spell.
  • Diamond or Nether Alloy armor, Shield
    • Recommended enchantments: Protection (to ensure safety, maximum effect), Flame Protection (to reduce lava damage), Projectile Protection (to reduce Pig Crossbow Damage), Thorn (to deal damage to attackers). The first three will be mutually exclusive.
    • Also bring a golden boot or helmet, as the pig spirit will not actively attack you. But if you're targeted by a Pig Spirit Barbarian, this trick isn't that useful, and the Pig Spirit Barbarian will attack the player whether they're wearing gold armor or not. It is recommended to have Durability III or Experience Patch spells to prevent sudden damage during battle.
  • potion
    • Recommended effects: Fire resistance (most versatile, prevents lava damage), Restoration, Night Vision (easy to pathfind), [Stealth (Peace Line is widely used), Power (Increases Damage)
  • Splash potion or Retention potion
    • Recommended effects: Instant damage/Poisoning (used to quickly attack hostile creatures, but easily injuring themselves), [Instant healing (used to quickly attack accidentally irritated zombie pigs, because they are undead creatures; At the same time, restore your own health), Slow (effectively suppress the enemy, be careful not to hurt yourself by mistake), Weak (weaken the enemy's strength, be careful not to hurt yourself by mistake)
  • Golden appleEnchanted Golden Apple (optional)
  • } is abundant of hungry food, preferably highly nutritious, such as steak, cooked pork chops, golden carrot.
  • totem of undying (optional).
  • hopper, you can easily obtain the treasure of the loot box without disturbing the pig spirit, it is best to bring a few more.
  • Gold item, recommended Gold Grain, used to slaughter the thread to attract the attention of the attacking pig spirit
    • But if you wear any gold gear, you don't have to carry gold grains because there is ready-made gold waiting to be dug inside the fortress.
  • boat} (optional), used to trap running warthog beasts and pig spirit barbarians, this method does not work with pig spirits holding crossbows.

You can also use spider web to slow down the movement of creatures. Compared to boats, spider webs are stackable.

  • soul torch or other soul artifacts (optional) to drive away pig spirits.
  • warped fungus (optional) to repel warthogs.
  • tnt and its ignition (optional), which are used to blow up nuggets and deal extensive damage (although they can also make the terrain very dangerous and also injure themselves).
  • Common cheap blocks (e.g. dirt, [cobblestone]], Nether rock]) for footing, paving, and sealing themselves.

Or choose glass to seal yourself and see outside.

  • Cheap weapons, Java Edition recommended [iron axe], Bedrock Edition recommended Iron Sword. Kill creatures before they reach you or use them to attack small magma monsters and avoid wasting your advanced weapons.
  • Shulker Box}, which can expand your inventory. But opening and digging the Latent Box will anger the pig spirit.
  • piston} to safely destroy and drop [Latent Box.

If you're playing Java Edition, you can also carry:

  • diamond or Nether alloy axe
    • Recommended Enchantment: Sharp (Sharp V's Nether Alloy Axe Jump Split deals 18♥ × 9 damage with one blow and can kill the pig spirit; With the state effect of strength, you can even kill the pig spirit barbarian with three consecutive axe strikes)

Pig Spirits (whether melee or ranged) damage is devastating, low-level armor is simply vulnerable to them, and unlike Zombie Pigs, Pigs have ranged attacks that make it easy to knock you into the lava of the Treasure Room or be killed by arrows. Since the long-range weapon is crossbow instead of bow, the role of the shield is also weakened. It is recommended to have at least diamond armor, but if you have Nether Alloy armor, try to use it, as the latter has resistance to knockback.

Combat Skills

Conquest strategy

Make sure you have at least one piece of gold armor on you before you enter the ruins of the fortress, otherwise hordes of pig spirits will choke you enough.

Pig Spirit Barbarian

Pig Spirit Barbarians are often a tricky problem for players, but fortunately they don't spawn again. Their attack style is similar to [Guardian, just need to slash at the player with the golden axe in their hands. This move deals a lot of damage to the player, so ranged attacks are recommended when fighting the Pig Spirit Barbarians. Another way is to put a boat in front of you when they're about to run over, so they'll automatically get trapped in the boat and destroy them as much as they want.

Alternatively, stand at least 20 blocks outside the fortress and shoot all visible pig spirit barbarians with ranged weapons. When the pig spirit barbarians are not visible, the player can enter the fortress with confidence, and the few remaining pig spirit barbarians will not pose much threat to the player because they are too small. For structures with large internal spaces or blocks outside such as treasure rooms, it is not easy to find and shoot all pig spirit barbarians outside the fortress, you can choose to build a bridge to enter the fortress above to shoot, at this time, pay attention to build a small platform to prevent the pig spirit with a crossbow from shooting you down from a height. When you find that the nearby pig spirit is shooting at you and poses a great threat to your safety, you can temporarily build a small room to block the pig spirit's view and the arrows fired, or temporarily withdraw from the fortress to eliminate the pig spirit's hatred.

If you have to, don't panic, use your Knockback sword to make him repulsed so that he can't get near you (with fast hands).

Pig Spirit

Pig spirits spawn frequently in the settlements of the fortress ruins. But if you wear any piece of gold armor, then the pig spirit will generally not actively attack you. If you accidentally provoke them, they will attack you in droves. Use your shield frequently at this time. Since pigs are not fireproof, you can put a bucket of lava and they will be burned quickly (please pay attention to your own safety, it is recommended to drink anti-fire potion), or you can use the flame attached sword, and when they burn, they will immediately escape (repeat if they are not burned).

Remember to place the funnel below before opening the box, and pay attention to the protection measures when digging gold nuggets (see below).

  • Note: If there is no other purpose, please do not come to a "pig spirit massacre" at will, which will make all the pig spirits around you hostile to you (the golden armor is invalid at this time), a large number of pig spirits will cause you great damage (or even death), and they will also ""infinitely spawn", and they can't kill at all.

Warthog

They spawn in the warthog barn in the ruins of the fortress. Although warthogs are not as common as pig spirits in the ruins of the fortress, they are still not to be taken lightly. They will stay away from Weird Bacteria and the Nether Portal 7 tiles, so building a Nether Portal or planting some Weird Bacteria can effectively keep Warthog away from the player. Warthogs will throw the player into the air (similar to an iron golem) when attacking the player, and a Drop Cushion boot can be of great help. If necessary, drink a bottle of slow fall potion. Since they are not fireproof, using lava or a sword with Flame Attached enchantment is a good option.

Magma Monster

The treasure room has a brush cage of magma monsters, and there will be large lava nearby. At this time, it is recommended to drink a bottle of anti-fire potion. When fighting magma monsters, you should kill the closest to you first, and for the greatest recommendation, use a diamond sword or an iron sword with a sharp enchantment. When they become the smallest, they can be solved directly with their bare hands.

It is recommended to dig up the spawn cage first (if you don't have to do the spawn tower), use this way, and you will be hundred.

Hoglins

Hoglins don't appear in bastion remnants too often, but they do sometimes. Keep these in mind when fighting them:

  • Hoglins can attack from a 3 block tall pillar, but not a 4 block tall pillar. Although you cannot hit them from 4 blocks, you can still shoot them. If you make a 3 block tall pillar, it is possible to kill Hoglins with melee weapon as long as you don't lean too far over the edge.
  • Piglins will never hunt any hoglins generated in bastion remnants. Don't rely on piglins to kill the hoglins for you.
  • It is extremely hard for hoglins to get in boats. Instead, take advantage of the fact they can't fit through 1 block wide spaces[Java Edition only].
  • If you must engage in melee combat with a hoglin, use a sword with Knockback II, Sharpness I-V, and Fire Aspect.
  • It's a good idea to bring some warped fungus to scare away the hoglins, but make sure you also have flower pots or dirt to place them on.

Magma cubes

Magma cubes can come from spawners hanging from chains over lava. They are very hard to reach and the cubes can knock you into lava. Although breaking these spawners works and protects you, the problem is that you can no longer use them for magma cream farms. Here is a list of some strategies:

  • Attack the big magma cubes first. This is because they have high health, do heavy damage, and jump high enough to knock players off 3-block tall pillars. The other magma cubes are much less dangerous, and can easily be killed in one hit with a decent weapon from atop a 3-block tall pillar, and the smallest ones can be killed with just your fist.
  • Summoning iron golems is almost a perfect solution. Because they are immune to magma cube damage (knockback too), and deal massive damage, this is a good approach. But one problem: Lava. The area where magma cube spawners exist is filled with lava, which iron golems avoid and take damage in. Fortunately, this can be mitigated with a splash (or lingering) potion of fire resistance.
  • If you don't have those kinds of resources, consider shooting them from afar. You should be far enough away to kill all of them before they make their way to you.
  • You can fill in their lava pool piecemeal, making the area much safer. A potion of fire resistance can also help.

Magma cube spawner disabling

MagmaSpawnerGrid

Using 9 solid blocks, the magma cube spawner can be completely disabled.

MagmaSpawnerDisabled

What a disabled spawner looks like from below. Take note that the blocks are one block higher than the level of the spawner.

There is always a magma cube spawner in each bastion remnant of the treasure room type. It is located close to the bottom of the large room, above a lava pool, guarding the ultimate treasure: a pile of gold blocks, and a chest. Most players would just easily disable the spawner by breaking it, as magma cubes spawn at any light level, torches won't do anything, and it takes a lot of time and blocks to fill up the entire 9×3x9 spawning area, enough time for the local piglins, piglin brutes and magma cubes to tear you into pieces. However, there exist a simple way to disable a magma cube spawner entirely and reliably, using as little as 9 blocks.

This disabling grid makes use of the mechanic that a magma cube, no matter large, medium or small, checks for the space requirements of a large magma cube before it spawns. Since a large magma cube is slightly wider than 2 blocks, there is no horizontal space within the 9×3x9 area for it to fit in. Also, a spawner can only spawn a mob's "feet" at 3 heights: one block below the spawner, same height as the spawner, or one block above the spawner. No matter which layer it chooses, even the lowest layer, since a large magma cube is slightly taller than 2 blocks, its "head" will slightly intersect with at least one of the solid blocks, cancelling the spawn attempt.

Defeating the bastion

General

Regardless of what part of the bastion you're trying to explore, it's a good idea to start exploring from the top and work your way down. Piglins won't hesitate to take fall damage to get to you, which can easily result in you getting ambushed if you start exploring from the bottom. A Piglin Brute landing on top of you is especially deadly, as they can disable your shield, leaving you completely vulnerable to their high damage attacks. Because of this, it is highly recommended to bring at least one Totem of Undying to a bastion remnant.

Getting to the top can be treacherous though; building to the top carries the risk of being shot off by a crossbow-wielding Piglin (If you've angered them or aren't wearing gold armor) or a Ghast, which can cause you to fall to your death or into lava. Digging through nearby netherrack to the top avoids these threats, but can result in you digging into a lava pocket and getting yourself melted. A Potion of Slow Falling can help protect you from the dangers of building up to the top and a Potion of Fire Resistance will keep you safe from any lava pockets you dig/fall into.

Once you have reached the top of the bastion, it is highly recommended to secure a respawn area, set a Respawn Anchor and lay a nearby chest or hopper with a supply of glowstone, should you need multiple respawn attempts. If you die in the bastion, getting your items back will be extremely difficult since Piglins can be very tough without armor, and will steal your armor leaving you unable to get it back. Because of this, it is also worth having a chest with back-up armor so you can safely retrieve your stuff without being instantly killed again by Piglins and Piglin Brutes.

Because the bastion remnant is almost completely made of blackstone, navigation can become difficult as the monochrome makes it hard to spot un-explored stairs or corridors. Marking your path (especially where you entered the bastion) with torches or brighter blocks like cobblestone can help you can see where you've already been. The ruined pathing of the bastion also means you should have a good supply of blocks to fill in the holes in the paths so you don't fall through them.

Remember that all nearby Piglins will become hostile if you attack a Piglin Brute, even if you're wearing gold armor. Most of the time, this makes it a better idea to avoid or trap brutes instead of fight them. You can also pour lava on the brutes to kill them, since this does not count as player damage, other piglins will not become hostile. If they're guarding a chest or there's no practical way to avoid fighting them, it can be a good idea to take out the surrounding Piglins first, especially the ones with crossbows, so that you can have an escape route ready if things don't go as planned. This also holds true for when you want to loot a chest or gold blocks, although you may not have to do this if there aren't any Piglins around; they can only detect you doing this from up to 16 blocks away.

You'll likely find your inventory filling up easily, given how much loot and equipment bastion remnants can hold. Shulker Boxes and an Ender Chest can greatly expand your maximum item capacity, but you can store the excess loot in chests that are already there if you're okay with making return trips. A Furnace can also be used to smelt all the gold weapons and armor you'll come across into nuggets; just make sure to leave one piece of gold armor unsmelted so you can equip it in case the one you're wearing breaks while you're exploring. Enchanted items can be disenchanted for experience with a grindstone.

Specific Bastion Types

When exploring a Hoglin stable, you should kill the Hoglins first. They have more melee range than the Piglins, are inherently hostile, and deal a lot of knockback, which can easily push you off the pillars and bridges of the bastion. Be careful not to hit any Piglins while doing this; Hoglins are dangerous enough when fought by themselves.

When exploring a Treasure Room, after clearing out the areas above, you should fill in the surrounding lava and disable/close off the Magma Cube spawner. Gravel and Sand can help you fill in the lava from above, as the lava pool is only 2 blocks deep with the exception of the occasional hole in the base of the bastion. A Potion of Fire Resistance can save your life if a Magma Cube knocks you into the lava pool while you're trying to fill it. Note that because Magma Cubes spawn at all light levels, the only way to disable the spawner is to completely cover it with blocks in a ~9x5x9 area with the spawner being in the center, one block under the top of that area. It's usually more practical to wall off the 9x5x9 area they spawn in instead. The entrance also has 4+ chests at, so make sure to loot those as well. You can loot one room, then mine into the left side (facing the entrance), and the second chest room will be on the other side. The fridge is considered necessary. It has been so since the 1960s when packaged food list appeared with the label: "Store in the refrigerator." In my fridgeless Fifties childhood, 1 was fed well and healthy. The milkman came every day, the grocer, the butcher , the baker, and the ice-cream man delivered two or three times each week. The Sunday meatwould last until Wednesday and surplus bread and milk became all kinds of cakes. Nothing was wasted, and we were never troubled by rotten food. Thirty years on food deliveries have ceased, fresh vegetables are almost unobtainable in the country. The invention of the fridge contributed comparatively little to the art of food preservation. Many well-tried techniques already existed -- natural cooling, drying, smoking, salting, sugaring, bottling... What refrigeration did promote was marketing --- marketing hardware and electricity, marketing soft drinks, marketing dead bodies of animals around the world in search of a good price. Consequently, most of the world's fridges are to be found, not in the tropics where they might prove useful, but in the rich countries with mild temperatures where they are climatically almost unnecessary. Every winter, millions of fridges hum away continuously, and at vast expense, busily maintaining an artificially-cooled space inside an artificially-heated house -- while outside, nature provides the desired temperature free of charge. The fridge's effect upon the environment has been evident, while its contribution to human happiness has been not important. If you don't believe me, try it yourself, invest in a food cabinet and mm off your fridge next winter. You may not eat the hamburgers, but at least you'll get rid of that terrible hum.

When exploring a Bridge, the gold statue is generally somewhat safe to mine. It is on a 3-block tall podium, so piglin brutes and piglins with swords are easy to kill. Crossbow piglins can knock you off, so prioritize killing them first with a ranger weapon. After killing the piglins that rushed to you, the bastion is somewhat safe in the center. Avoid melee combat, as it is easy to get pushed into lava. A Punch bow will help shove piglins and brutes into the lava columns. Turning left will bring you to another dangerous area, so snipe the piglins from afar. Make sure to block off all entrances when opening chests, as piglins will be aggravated, so you can take your time picking out the lodestone and other valuables in the chest. Afterwards, open a small hole if piglins are nearby trying to attack you. If none are there, the bastion is pretty much free to explore.
