Pumpkin seeds will grow a central stem, that grows to max size before spawning a Pumpkin next to it.[1][2] The stem can be grown to full size with Bone Meal, and will spawn a Pumpkin shortly thereafter.
The seeds can be found in Abandoned Mine Shaft chests, but are much rarer than Melon Seeds. Seeds can also be obtained by harvesting a fully grown stem. For more farming tips see Pumpkin Farming.
Crafting
As of 1.9pre2, pumpkin seeds can be obtained by crafting a pumpkin.

Bugs
- Due to a bug, it is not possible to naturally find Pumpkin Seeds at all in Beta 1.8.1, meaning they could be found only by crafting a pumpkin.
