Please add german interwiki link! [[de:Vorlage:Reflist]].
Thanks! ILeon 09:48, 23 March 2013 (UTC)

Done. — Hower64 10:51, 23 March 2013 (UTC)

Template usage[]

I am going to add some of the other features to the reflist template/doc. --KnightMiner (talk|contribs) 02:38, 1 February 2014 (UTC)

Group parameter[]

Would it be worthwile to add the name parameter of the references tag? It is used frequently enough on this wiki as notes. --KnightMiner (t|c) 15:33, 17 June 2014 (UTC)

Just noticed my typo, I meant the group tag. --KnightMiner (t|c) 14:23, 2 July 2014 (UTC)
So, I've implemented a version of the code in my sandbox that allows the "group" parameter of <references/>. It can be seen here --KnightMiner (t|c) 20:49, 16 August 2014 (UTC)

Update interwikis[]

Could an admin update the interwikis for this page?

-JEC6789Book and Quill.pngDiamond Pickaxe.png at 23:58, 21 December 2014 (UTC)

Done, also updated doc style so interwikis are on the documentation page, which is not edit-protected. -- Orthotopetalk 00:32, 22 December 2014 (UTC)

mobile view[]

Is it possible to get {{reflist}} to ignore the multiple-column argument and default to 1 column, in the case of browsing in mobile mode? – Sealbudsman (Aaron) SealbudsmanFace.png t/c 15:26, 4 June 2015 (UTC)

Mobile view doesn't chane the arrangement. What's the problem? 16:15, 4 June 2015 (UTC)
Whenever it's 2 or more columns, they're necessarily very narrow columns, so each reference wraps like 6 or 7 times. – Sealbudsman (Aaron) SealbudsmanFace.png t/c 16:26, 4 June 2015 (UTC)
I don't see a problem with that. Also this template already does default to 1. 22:15, 4 June 2015 (UTC)
Well I didn't mean default to 1, I meant that in mobile mode it would always override the argument and make it 1 column. The problem is just that having 2+ columns is a good design solution for desktops and situations with an abundance of horizontal space, but degrades in readability in situations where the page is only like 20 to 24em across. Apologies if I'm repeating myself. I only tried to elaborate because I guessed I wasn't clear. – Sealbudsman (Aaron) SealbudsmanFace.png t/c 02:05, 5 June 2015 (UTC)
Agree, but I don't know how that would be done. 02:52, 5 June 2015 (UTC)
Comment: Could be easily done using a forced style in MediaWiki:Mobile.css. Just need to add a class to this template.
It instead may be better though to do what Wikipedia:Template:Reflist does and wrap based on width, rather then a global column wrap, as that would also be the case on small screens, and large screens may have a lot of extra space. KnightMiner t/c 03:40, 5 June 2015 (UTC)
I like the width-based approach, since it doesn’t require special code for phones. Wikipedia has actually deprecated use of the fixed-columns system due to its lack of flexibility, so I think we can change as well. — Orthotopetalk 05:32, 5 June 2015 (UTC)
I like width-based too. More resources: wikipedia discussion on number of columns, wikipedia column-width test cases. I personally gravitate toward having no parameter, and hard-code at 30em width. Because is there really a need for flexibility that differs page-to-page? – Sealbudsman (Aaron) SealbudsmanFace.png t/c 14:45, 5 June 2015 (UTC)
I think 30em would be a good default, but I would leave in the option for different sizes (and only use it in cases where it is required, which I assume will be rare. It may be required if there are a lot of references though). I have a sample of what the code would require here. Any values that are not a width are tagged with a category in order to cleanup the outdated usage. KnightMiner t/c 17:43, 5 June 2015 (UTC)
It looks good. If nobody objects, I move we implement KnightMiner's sample. – Sealbudsman (Aaron) SealbudsmanFace.png T/C 15:47, 24 July 2015 (UTC)

column-width rather than column-count[]

Shall we change over to using column-width, rather than column count, per the earlier discussion? – Sealbudsman (Aaron) SealbudsmanFace.png T/C 21:31, 10 August 2015 (UTC)

Since its been awhile with no one disagreeing, and the actual change requires an administrator, I would post it over on the Admin noticeboard as an edit request. KnightMiner t/c 00:45, 11 August 2015 (UTC)
I'm for it, would just like to get an opinion from Majr or Dinoguy, since they're much better with CSS than I am. -- Orthotopetalk 01:00, 11 August 2015 (UTC)
Good call. It's now at Minecraft_Wiki:Admin_noticeboard#in_Template:Reflist.2C_using_column-width_rather_than_column-countSealbudsman (Aaron) SealbudsmanFace.png T/C 01:15, 11 August 2015 (UTC)
I would say that we keep the column count, and add the column-width to act as a minimum size. That way, column-count acts as an ideal column number, but will scale down if the columns get too small.
The reason this is better than just using column-width is it allows us to choose between two and three (or more) column layouts depending on the amount of references, whereas column-width would force us to have either no columns or three columns (on standard resolution screens). MajrTalk

I have no objection. – Sealbudsman (Aaron) SealbudsmanFace.png T/C 03:05, 12 August 2015 (UTC)
That sounds pretty to me as well. KnightMiner t/c 22:30, 12 August 2015 (UTC)

Responsive design[]

Would someone with the appropriate permissions update this template to what the English Wikipedia is currently using? See Wikipedia:Template:Reflist. It automatically switches to 30em-wide columns (which means more columns for more width in the browser) if the number of references exceed 10. We could adapt that here for exceeding, say, 6.

I was going to do this but found that I couldn't. I have some experience editing templates here (I created Template:Distdir and Template:Columns-list for example) so I'd be happy to do this if I could. ~ Amatulic (talk) 00:43, 26 September 2019 (UTC)
