Survival Test[]

Okay, been dreading this but Survival Test does not deserve to be in the timeline. No? --Scykei 07:55, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

Some reasons why Survival Test is not under a new Development Cycle in Minecraft, but is under Classic:

 1. It uses the same engine as Creative, having the same lighting technology, map generation.
 2. Save file can be exported and imported to and from Creative and Survival Test.
 3. Has the same version number as Creative.
 4. Even after Survival Test is released, Creative still receives updates, proof here. If it's truly a part of the development cycle, the previous version will not be updated. Let's say if a Beta version is released, the Alpha version will no longer get updates. That old stage should be phased out.

This proves both Game Modes, Creative and Survival, are under Classic. I cannot stress how irritated I get when people mix up the Development Cycles and Game Modes. Survival only refers to the game mode, and not the development stages or anything else. --Scykei 08:33, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

fuck, gotta go through this again, huh?
look, half life 2, team fortress 2 and portal are on the same engine. they aren't game modes. this is the same.
end of discussion. lets not turn this into a massive thing again >.> --Kizzycocoa 04:16, 23 November 2010 (CST)
It might be another milestone but it is NOT a new step in the dev cycle because of point #4. --Scykei 04:27, 23 November 2010 (CST)
it is part of the development cycle, and the first test of mobs. sure, the other was updated again. but this was part of the development cycle. it explored item dropping and mobs.--Kizzycocoa 04:31, 23 November 2010 (CST)

Wiki help[]

I don't feel that the wiki help pages belong on this template. They really have nothing to do with the game. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 10:17, 30 May 2011 (UTC)

I agree with Wynthyst.--Yurisho 10:18, 30 May 2011 (UTC)
Where do you think they should be, then? I don't disagree with your point, but it seemed unnessicary to make a seperate template just for that help section.--Gemberkoekje 10:19, 30 May 2011 (UTC)
Is there anywhere to put it that it will fit? no, so make a new one...--Yurisho 10:22, 30 May 2011 (UTC)
Also, my reasoning to put it under the Minecraft template is to group it with the new user tutorial section. It DOES make sense, in my opinion, to keep those sections grouped.. --Gemberkoekje 10:24, 30 May 2011 (UTC)
You are thinking associatively, there is no connection what so ever between gameplay tutorials and wiki tutorials, not only are they in different subjects, they are also for different people!--Yurisho 10:29, 30 May 2011 (UTC)
Very well, reverted the Minecraft template and added a Help template --Gemberkoekje 10:39, 30 May 2011 (UTC)
There is no need for 3 help pages to have a navigation box. A simple "See also" section at the bottom of each page will suffice. The main Help:Contents page is already linked in the left sidebar. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 10:48, 30 May 2011 (UTC)
It's still a good idea to link to it thou...IMO--Yurisho 11:57, 30 May 2011 (UTC)

Game Versions[]

I suggest adding a row about the different versions of minecraft:web, downloadable, pocket. soon I'll add a test template to my user page. --Yurisho 19:34, 2 June 2011 (UTC)

EDIT:well someone already edited, so goes for being nice and not editing myself....--Yurisho 19:46, 2 June 2011 (UTC)

Today's E3 showed off Minecraft for the Xbox 360! - DarkAuk 18:12, 6 June 2011 (UTC)

Minecraft 4k[]

where does Minecraft 4k gets in the template?--Yurisho 20:49, 29 June 2011 (UTC)

what comes first? 4k or demo?[]

to my understanding, 4k was just a joke notch made in 2 minutes, and came after the demo, unless someone has a citation that 4k was part of the minecraft testing process.--Yurisho 05:04, 17 July 2011 (UTC)

It's not a joke. Search for "Java 4K Programming Contest". Rgamer35 21:48, 10 August 2011 (UTC)
Searched, but found no minecraft entry.--Yurisho 05:30, 11 August 2011 (UTC)

XP meter[]

Given the presence of Hunger in this template, should experience points be added as well? The obvious answer is "yes." Personally I'm not certain Hunger should be on here, so I'd like a second opinion. --Theothersteve7 19:45, 22 August 2011 (UTC)

Split template[]

I suggest we split this template apart, because it deals with too many subjects. I think this template should only deal with with the game in a very broad term, and that means that technical and gameplay need to go away, and turn into their own templates. Now I don't know if they should be one template, or two, but I do know that Template:Technical already exists, but I had never seen it being used...--Yurisho 19:00, 15 September 2011 (UTC)

There's a bit of a bug with the new version. It looks like the nested navboxes have the same width as the main navbox. Because they're indented, this stretches the template off the right side of the window. Is it possible to modify Navbox and/or the relevant CSS so the child navboxes have no minimum width? -- Orthotope 08:10, 30 April 2012 (UTC)

It's caused by the child navbox being part of the last li, instead of outside the ul. Once that is fixed, I can change it back to inline-block and it'll wrap correctly, even in IE 8 and higher (without adding special styling with nasty JS).
I'll have it fixed once I have some free time. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 19:21, 1 May 2012 (UTC)
Should all work now. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 23:05, 3 May 2012 (UTC)

Reverse role[]

There's a lot of wasted space here: http://i.imgur.com/63iMmPW.png Don't you think it should be flipped so that there are two rows "Version History" and "Upcoming Features" and that each version be listed once in each section? LB(T|C) 15:35, 21 October 2013 (UTC)

Easter Eggs Icon[]

In my opinion, the icon used for Easter eggs is technically incorrect. This is due to the fact that the icon is of a mob spawn egg (presumably either a blank template or a Spawn Ghast), and not of an actual Minecraft egg. If you could change the icon to represent an actual Easter Egg, that would be fantastic. Thanks!

GunslingerN7, Technology and Gaming Freelancer (Talk) 10:59, 19 August 2014 (UTC)

I completely agree and have change it to Skis (texture) JE1.png 🎅🏻TyEvSkyo 泰勒 01:45, 14 July 2015 (UTC)
No, not File:Skis.png, that looks terrible at a small size (and a large size too, it is a texture mesh). If an actual the egg is not satisfactory, I would suggest the Christmas chest (the front texture can be added as a sprite like the other chest). KnightMiner t/c 14:04, 14 July 2015 (UTC)
ok 🎅🏻TyEvSkyo 泰勒 14:39, 14 July 2015 (UTC)

Exclusive features sprite[]

Because the Nether Reactor functions are being removed in 0.12.0, but the block is still there, I suggest instead changing it to a image of the Far Lands (using Exclusive features as the link for this). Having the nether reactor structure sprite there after 0.12.0 comes out will just be pointless. --MarioProtIV (talk) 14:34, 14 July 2015 (UTC)

Or Beetroot 🎅🏻TyEvSkyo 泰勒 14:39, 14 July 2015 (UTC)
Disagree on both. Though it will lose functionality, the block itself will still be present. The nether reactor core has long been an icon representative of Pocket Edition, and I see no reason to change that now. Illidicia (t+c) 23:53, 14 July 2015 (UTC)
Disagree per Illidicia. -BDJP (t|c) 01:30, 15 July 2015 (UTC)

Remove version history[]

Now that version history nav is now acting as a navigation template (rather than a sidebar) and has the same content as the development cycle section, does anyone object to removing the development cycle stuff from this template? It would certainly help clear up some of the clutter of pages in this template. KnightMiner t/c 03:33, 23 July 2015 (UTC)

 No objection. -BDJP (t|c) 04:42, 23 July 2015 (UTC)

"Other" section[]

Recently, there's been a slow edit war on the categorisation of various parts of the template. In particular are the links to MineCon, Minecraft: The Story of Mojang, Minecraft in education, End Poem and Minecraft: Story Mode. While "Other" may not entirely be the best sub-header, simply having a sub-header with one or two links is rather useless as it defeats the whole point of categorisation. The title "Media" doesn't really fit it either as Minecon and Minecraft in education are not media. We need this discussion here to come to an agreement on this. GoandgooTalk
04:18, 30 August 2015 (UTC)

I agree that "media" is not the proper word, however "other" is such a wide term that dividing it into sections like this makes more sense as it is making the template more organized and easier for readers to navigate. Also I don't believe that is matters if there is only 1-2 pages in a section if it means that the template is more organized. Lastly there is no edit warring going on as I was the one to change it from "media" to "other", but then I realized it made more sense to divide it. Wolffillms (talk) 14:51, 30 August 2015 (UTC)
It is hardly organization if there is only one item. All you are doing then is increasing whitespace and adding an extended title to that one item, plus any number of categories can be created for a single item. The whole point of an "other" category is to contain anything that is by itself in a category.
As for the edit warring, there was some, but you were not involved. It was over whether we should have a media category, or an additional two links. KnightMiner t/c 20:27, 30 August 2015 (UTC)
My opinion on what to do would be keeping the template as it is right now. I would like to move End Poem to a place under Gameplay, but I am a little unsure about that as it is quite different from most of the other pages there. Then again, most games only have one type of credits. KnightMiner t/c 20:27, 30 August 2015 (UTC)

Has anyone created a page called "Char.png" on this wiki? for proof, click here. Because when I went to the page console edition it let me know that I worked on an article, when I haven't. Does someone have a solution to this? -|Pika Party|- 21:31, 30 September 2015 (UTC)

I am not sure exactly what you are saying or how it applies to this template, but an asset in the .jar file of the game is really not notable enough for an article, it should be covered under the player if anywhere. KnightMiner t/c 00:19, 1 October 2015 (UTC)
Well, the connection to this template was that it was written on the template, in the .minecraft section, like this:
-|Pika Party|- 21:21, 6 October 2015 (UTC)
First off, please link a revision rather than copying the whole contents of the navbox There is no need to clutter the talk page when you just want to show what it looked like.
Secondly, the page was removed immediately after it was added so my question is why are you bringing it up? Do you think the page is needed?
Third, if your question is about it being on this template, what does your second and third sentence mean? KnightMiner t/c 23:28, 6 October 2015 (UTC)

Two Easter eggs Links[]

There are two Easter eggs links at "Java" and "Other". Is it necessary to add this link twice in the same template? Kakagou12341 (talk) 05:13, 30 November 2017 (UTC)

Bedrock Edition "Ports To Consoles"[]

On the Minecraft and Bedrock Edition templates there is a "ports to consoles" section. This simply states that Bedrock Edition is on the Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PS4. This DOES NOT mean the Legacy Console Editions for those platforms; the links for those go on the "discontinued" section of the Minecraft template and in the LCE template. If the links are added I will remove them.Travelbytrain (talk) 15:23, 3 January 2020 (UTC)

Is it necessary to add every single developer in the title bar? The developers could be moved in a category at the top of the navigation box, not the title bar. -- 18:18, 25 November 2020 (UTC)

Because of the amount of devs listed in the title bar, the navbox is too wide for a 1366px screen, causes a horizontal scroll, and the "hide" toggle is not clickable. --BryghtShadow (talk) 15:56, 1 January 2021 (UTC)
A good idea would be to reduce the font size for the developers like this:
by Mojang Studios, Xbox Game Studios, 4J Studios, SkyBox Labs, Other Ocean Interactive, Telltale Games, Double Eleven, NetEase & TeacherGaming
