I really dislike what has been done to this template. Also, it is used on so many page, changes should be discussed and decided before they are made so that they don't have to be undone when they aren't what is wanted. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon.png talk 06:21, 21 February 2011 (UTC)

Float:right please[]

Can this template be set to "float:right;" please? So much wasted horizontal space in the articles... UsedOnlyTwice 08:06, 29 June 2011 (UTC)

Can this template get custom "class"? I wan't to modify some CSS with vector.css for it. – xPaw 20:20, 20 October 2011 (UTC)

I don't see why not. –ultradude25 (T|C) at 01:06, 21 October 2011 (UTC)
Thank you! – xPaw 09:41, 21 October 2011 (UTC)

Change to the “Discuss” link[]

I propose allowing to set a specific talk page instead of the default one (that is, the associated talk page of the page where the template is used). This can be done by changing the

{{#if: {{{discuss|}}} | [[{{TALKPAGENAME}}{{#if:{{{discussAnchor|}}} | #{{{discussAnchor}}} }}|Discuss]]

part to

{{#if: {{{discuss|}}} | [[{{#if:{{{discussPage|}}} | {{{discussPage}}} | {{TALKPAGENAME}} }}{{#if:{{{discussAnchor|}}} | #{{{discussAnchor}}} }}|Discuss]]

This would be useful if the discussion is located elsewhere, since you won’t have to create a redirect topic like this. By the way, this feature is already implemented in the Russian wiki’s Msgbox. — NickTheRed37 (issues’ wall) 14:04, 9 May 2016 (UTC)

Am I just being ignored? Majr? — NickTheRed37 (issues’ wall) 15:01, 10 May 2016 (UTC)
Finally. Thanks, Majr, but make sure to reply in the next time. — NickTheRed37 (issues’ wall) 15:43, 12 May 2016 (UTC)

Remove or change automatic categorization[]

In the Minecraft Wiki, all templates using Template:Message box are categorized into Category:Notice templates. However, on Wikipedia, the category of a similar name is only for talk page templates. Can somebody remove or change the automatic categorization after I manually categorize al templates in the category?Fadyblok240 (talk) 18:36, 8 August 2020 (UTC)

Update template[]

New template style[]

There hasn't been any significant changes made to the template since it was first created. Since then, there has been lots of issues regarding the clutter of message boxes and discussions to replace the template. Therefore, I propose to redesign the current template with what I have made here. Any feedback for improvement is welcomed. – ItsPlantseed|⟩ 18:16, 28 February 2021 (UTC)

I have more suggested changes. One feature I would like to be implemented is the ability to float the box to the right. Also, the default msgbox should float to the center to more easily distinguish it from the mini/small version, but the text should always be left-aligned. Also, since a few /doc pages are incorrectly categorized into Category:Notice templates, I would suggest removing the automatic categorization of msgbox-based templates, but they have to be manually categorized first. Fadyblok240 (talk) 20:31, 28 February 2021 (UTC)
Added float and removed category. I'll leave it to you for the manual categorization. – ItsPlantseed|⟩ 08:30, 1 March 2021 (UTC)

Template colors (topic: border color)[]

Should default message box have a gray color with no left border or yellow like it currently does? If we were to make the default gray, then system message boxes or anything would have to be reformatted to reflect the yellowish color or new color scheme. –  ItsPlantseed|⟩ 13:43, 3 March 2021 (UTC)

I think that a dark yellow border can work, as it is the style that was used for so many time, Anyway, I don't care if it gets changed to gray, as it would look modern too. The reason of why the current default style looks bad is because the colors don't mix well. See for example this:
Example template
See this example
That way the default template would look relatively modern like the {{wip}} template which mixes well its colors. Thejoaqui777 (talk) 14:20, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
Just to clear things up, what I meant by gray is like the second message box here. – ItsPlantseed|⟩ 14:40, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
I know, that's why I commented that I don't care if the color gets changed to gray or the border gets changed to that yellow I showed (or similar, that was an example). Thejoaqui777 (talk) 15:01, 3 March 2021 (UTC)

Template colors (topic: new criteria for color usage)[]

On the Wiki discord server, someone showed possible template colors. While the image is for a possible new version of this template, we can apply the color changes for now. The colors are these (left linecol, right bgcol):

  • Gray: _______ #FCFCFC
  • Red: #FAA #FDD
  • Orange: #DC8 #FEC
  • Yellow: #DD8 #FFC
  • Green: #9C9 #DFD
  • Blue: #9CD #DEF
  • Magenta: #DAD #FDF
  • Purple: #AAD #EEF

They are perfect, and this should be the criteria to use the colors:

  • Default color (unclassified templates): gray
  • Giving warning for disclaimer/termination/deletion of a page: red
  • Suggesting a page to be moved/split/merged: magenta
  • Giving notice for the maintenance/editing-related actions of a page: yellow
  • Giving information regarding the status of the content of a page: green
  • Giving information regarding the content of a page: orange
  • Giving details about editions and/or versions: blue

Some examples of which template would (and should) use a specific color:

What do you think? Thejoaqui777 (talk) 22:05, 5 March 2021 (UTC)

It's mostly fine, but {{technical}} should be yellow because it only concerns the style of the content, not the content itself. Fadyblok240 (talk) 22:28, 5 March 2021 (UTC)
Ok, I removed it as you are right. Sorry for the confusion. Thejoaqui777 (talk) 23:56, 5 March 2021 (UTC)
Now that the new message box is already deployed. I think we can start applying these colors now. – ItsPlantseed|⟩ 04:21, 31 March 2021 (UTC)
Done. I added them to the documentation. Thejoaqui777 (talk) 03:00, 1 April 2021 (UTC)

"Discuss" parameters[]

We also have to deal with the three "discuss" parameters (there may be more), which could all be merged into one new parameter called "talk". Here's how the new parameter would work:

  • If the parameter is empty, no talk page link would be added.
  • If the parameter is #, then a link to the subject page's corresponding talk page would be added.
  • If the parameter is # followed by text, then a link to the corresponding anchor of the talk page would be added.
  • If the parameter is any other value, then a link would be added for the page with the name of the value.
  • In all cases, no link would be provided if the talk page does not exist.

This would make adding discussion links to message boxes so much easier. Fadyblok240 (talk) 15:32, 5 March 2021 (UTC)

I  Oppose. If they were merged they would become confusing. They are simpler separated, but I think that the documentation of this template needs to be fixed, as it doesn't explain anything about its advanced parameters. Thejoaqui777 (talk) 16:10, 5 March 2021 (UTC)
Update: I updated the documentation to show parameter usage, so now they aren't confusing anymore. Thejoaqui777 (talk) 04:36, 2 April 2021 (UTC)
Usage of the parameters is still somewhat unwieldy. Fadyblok240 (talk) 00:27, 7 April 2021 (UTC)
Support but we would need to change a whole bunch of templates.Humiebeetalk contribs 12:24, 17 April 2021 (UTC)
How about we implement the |talk= parameter without removing the old parameters? Then, we can change the templates to use the new parameter without breaking anything. Only when no templates use the deprecated parameters will we remove the code for these parameters. Fadyblok240 (talk) 14:16, 17 April 2021 (UTC)

Snyc request : imageisraw parameter[]

I added an imageisraw parameter to the sandboxto make it possible to use templates like {{animate}}. Could an admin sync the sandbox with the main template page ? I'de like to use this for the {{exclusive/sandbox}} template. - MetalManiacMc at your service fellow human! (talk) 17:55, 31 May 2021 (UTC)
