Minecraft mess

So... what is going to happen to this template? It's going to need a whole rewrite. – NixinovaGrid Book and Quill Grid Diamond Pickaxe Grid Map • 04:31, 13 June 2017 (UTC)

I guess, the template might have to look like this:
Template example
Minecraft Alpha
0.1.0 Added grass blocks.
Minecraft Release
1.0 Build 1 Grass block can now be used to tame a pig.
Items can now be stacked up to 256.
Minecraft Upcoming
1.3 Fire now turn grass block into a dirt.
Java Edition Pre-classic
Pre 0.0.0 The grass block was one of the first two blocks in Minecraft: Java Edition, along with cobblestone.
The same top texture was used on all six sides of grass blocks, resulting in "grass cubes".
Java Edition Classic
0.27 SURVIVAL TEST 12 Sheep would eat grass to regrow wool on their bodies, reverting the block to dirt. Often, the grass would regrow just as quickly as sheep would eat it.
Java Edition Indev
December 23, 2009 With the introduction of dynamic lighting, grass was now able to grow in more dimly-lit areas, not having to be fully lit by the sun.
Java Edition Infdev
February 30, 2017 Infinite worlds now contains grass block.
Java Edition Alpha
1.0.4 With the introduction of snowfall in Winter Mode worlds, grass block side textures would turn snowy-colored when the block was under snow layers.
Java Edition Beta
1.5 The grass texture around the sides was given the same biome-dependent hue as the top texture, when in Fancy Graphics mode.
Java Edition
1.0.0 Beta 1.9-pre4 Grass blocks first became obtainable in Survival mode through use of the Silk Touch enchantment, introduced with the new enchanting system.
Beta 1.9-pre5 The top textures of grass and snowy grass were slightly changed, to look more fitting with standard biomes.
Beta 1.9-pre6 The side texture was slightly changed.
? Slabs were changed so that they no longer reverted grass blocks beneath them to dirt, allowing grass to spread to and from underneath.
Java Edition Upcoming
1.14 Grass block removed.
Console Edition
TU1 CU1 1.0 Patch 1 Patch 1 Added grass blocks.
Realms
1.0.0 Realms now require a grass block.
Education Edition Alpha
0.16.0 Build 1 Added grass blocks.
Education Edition
1.0.1 Grass blocks are now used to punish students.
I also added "Education Edition" to see what it would looked like in the future. – ItsPlantseed|⟩ 06:30, 13 June 2017 (UTC)
Something like that, but Console Edition is being split into Minecraft and PS Editions and I dont wanna be punished by a grass block :(NixinovaGrid Book and Quill Grid Diamond Pickaxe Grid Map • 06:46, 13 June 2017 (UTC)
Console edition will continue to exist on PS4 and older console. Current Xbox One and Switch players will be able to keep the current console versions, but they won't be sold anymore on the Xbox/Nintendo stores. It's unclear if these two version will continue to get updates along PS4/older consoles, but I'm quite positive they will.
IMHO Minecraft - Minecraft: Java Edition - Minecraft: Console Edition is fine --Capopanzone (talk) 09:47, 13 June 2017 (UTC)
A while ago, I was experimenting on my sandbox with placing coloured edition rows to make the history table clearer for users. I guess it could be adapted for the new naming scheme. GoandgooTalk

I've updated these tables on my sandbox with the potential new naming scheme, and I've got two versions - one with increased header font size and one with normal header font size. Please provide opinions. GoandgooTalk

I like test 1, with the slightly bigger headers. Either way is good though. The colors look nice in my opinion. Header names too. Does it auto-sort the things to the right place in the table, or does it have to be put in that order? – Sealbudsman talk/contr 14:28, 13 June 2017 (UTC)
Auto-sort is a good move, in my opinion Minecraft→Java Edition→Console Edition is better than Java Edition→Minecraft→Console Edition, but I just created the "all color" version of the table, for comparison you can find it on my sandbox page. – ItsPlantseed|⟩ 02:49, 14 June 2017 (UTC)
I prefer the colour only in the header as it otherwise seems to cluttered to me. Regarding auto sort, I don't know how this would be done (I did it manually) but I guess KnightMiner has implied below it could be possible. I wouldn't be opposed to keeping Java Edition at the top either as it is the oldest section and generally the largest. GoandgooTalk

I also prefer test 1, but I think to header font should be bigger, and I think they should all be the same color to promote the notion of equivalent importance. Won't we need a PlayStation Edition section too? – Auldrick (talk · contribs) 12:16, 17 June 2017 (UTC)
Once the template is updated, we may want a bot. Can Majr or KnightMiner do this. The BlobsPaper 14:04, 13 June 2017 (UTC)
I admittedly have not been very active lately, so I am not sure when I would be able to make any changes. I only just happened to log on today to see this message. I am sure it would be possible for me to write something to transfer the header names over, but wanting to reorder them as well makes things a bit messy. (I personally would keep the Java Edition on top since its the oldest and has the most headers, but I guess the PE/Win10 version (what are we going to call that anyways?) is the main version now). KnightMiner t/c 21:44, 13 June 2017 (UTC)
Holy Alisa. What a big template. I think we should consider placing all stuff for Java/PC edition, unified portable edition and old console editions into three separate columns. This change would allow for a proper chronological scale and for easy comparison of a single object’s histories in different editions. — NickTheRed37 (talk) 14:40, 16 June 2017 (UTC)
Using columns would actually lead to the table becoming longer, because the current version column already takes a lot of space and then having 3 versions side by side would actually lead to six columns side by side. With the Gamepedia sidebar visible for most users and also many users using the wiki on smaller devices (e.g. tablets), this really isn't a viable alternative. GoandgooTalk

I could see the possibility of columns, if we hid the actual details, only showing one column at a time. Here's a rough mockup: 1, 2
The columns can collapse down on smaller screens, so it would fit on mobile just as well. Main issue would be the rows wouldn't line up when they up take multiple lines, as the tables are actually separate. Whether hiding details is actually desirable is the question.
I think the colours are good in the header, although I think we should swap pe and java, as orange is already the established pe colour.
Auto-sorting would only really be possible if the entire section was a single template, which would certainly make VE happier, but otherwise I don't know how usable that would be. MajrTalk

I suppose that could be a good option to have them side by side and collapsible as it could prevent the history table from taking up as much vertical space as it currently does on pages such as Zombie. Is there any chance of you making a working test on the wiki?
I notice you've left space potentially for a logo, but is there a real need for them? Personally I think the text version descriptors are enough.
In regards to the colours, I was thinking of assigning the new combined Minecraft version the green colour as its now more or less the main version. Apart from the orange colour used on the main page, is the orange colour really used anywhere else? I suppose either colour would work but I'd like to see more community discussion on this matter. TBH, I don't know how viable the design is, so unless there's some interest towards it, making a functional test probably isn't worth it.
I just put that in as a possibility afforded by the design. I don't know if we even have icons for the different editions, PE and CE just use all the platform logos.
It's only really the main page, but changing the colours could be confusing. I don't see why green is any more of a main colour than orange. I don't have a strong opinion either way. MajrTalk

Education Edition

Could someone add the education edition to the template? Seeing as we don't have version pages for the education edition for now at least, clicking on the version number can just redirect to the Education Edition page. GoandgooTalk

Not that ready for Education Edition, it has less information than any other editions due to lack of access into the game. We don't know yet about the first version of the game, also the Education Edition 1.0.1 has not been created until now, we should consider a version page for the Education Edition before making any changes to the template. The changelog for 1.0.1 can be found in here. – ItsPlantseed|⟩ 05:54, 23 June 2017 (UTC)
I just loaded up the trial version of the Education Edition (you can open it up to 10 times) and it has the exact same features as the latest Pocket Edition/Windows 10 version, plus the version exclusive ones. I don't think it's necessary to have version pages for the Education for this reason, however having an Education Edition section of the history template to point out the version exclusive features on their respective pages (e.g. the Allow and Deny blocks) should be fine to do. I think the problem now is we don't know which version the Allow and Deny blocks, Border, etc were added. I don't know why you put 1.0.1 in there, but they are indeed not added in 1.0.1. – ItsPlantseed|⟩ 13:33, 23 June 2017 (UTC)
Maybe HelenAngel would be in a position to help provide history entries for this edition? – Sealbudsman talk/contr 13:44, 23 June 2017 (UTC)
Yup, I'd be happy to help. Allow, Deny, and Border blocks were in the official launch in 1.0. They were actually technically in the technical demos and betas but there wasn't really a beta program back then per se and it wasn't a public beta really. But yeah, I have the changelogs for the releases and I'm happy to provide them. --HelenAngel (talk) 01:07, 24 June 2017 (UTC)
Sounds great, many thanks for the clarification. HelenAngel, specifically I'd like to ask if any of the Education exclusive features were added in a version later than 1.0, as it otherwise makes things pretty easy. GoandgooTalk

Obtaining == === Crafting =
Usage
To use a spyglass, the player selects it from the hotbar and clicks use while looking in the desired direction.

Spyglasses are used to zoom in on a specific location in the player's field of view (FOV). The spyglass changes the FOV to 1 of the FOV set in options. By default, the FOV is set to 70° in Java Edition and 60° in Bedrock Edition, resulting in an FOV of 7° in Java Edition and 6° in Bedrock Edition through the spyglass. The player's FOV can be set from 30° to 110°, so the spyglass FOV can range from 3° to 11°. Regardless of the situation, or status effects the player has, using the Spyglass always shows a FOV 1 of the FOV set in options.

A square vignette is applied when in use, similar to the effect when wearing a carved pumpkin. Pressing F1 removes the vignette, java similar to a carved pumpkin.

Hazy distant objects remain hazy when viewed in the spyglass. Mobs too distant to render also do not render in the spyglass. The spyglass shows a magnified view of what the player already sees.

The player is slowed down while watching through the spyglass. When the player uses the spyglass continuously for 1 minute, the interface is automatically closed.

If the player has a certain effect on their screen like fire, the spyglass does not remove that effect on the player's screen.

It can also hold items and be posed (but these are not possible in Survival in Java Edition).

== Obtaining == An armor stand can be broken by quickly it twice, dropping itself and any armor placed onto it.

Crafting
=== Natural generation === Two armor stands are found in each taiga village outdoor armory, one equipped with an iron helmet, the other with an iron chestplate.

== Usage == Players can use armor stands to hold armor, mob heads, carved pumpkins, and elytra. Commands can be used to give them other items. The stand does not have a GUI, so players interact with it directly. Armor stands are also able to be placed in different orientations, similar to banners or signs. Armor stands are entities, allowing them to be pushed by pistons, moved by flowing water, pulled with fishing rods, pushed by players (with knockback), and bounced by slime blocks.

armor on the stand places the armor if done on a bare spot. Conversely, clicking on armor with a bare hand removes the armor and places it in the highlighted hotbar slot. It is not possible to take or place items from the armor stand's hands unless playing on Bedrock Edition.

Armor, mob heads, or carved pumpkins can be automatically placed on armor stands with a dispenser.

Armor stands can be customized further to have arms, pose, disobey gravity, dual wield and other things by summoning them using summon with NBT tags.

In maps heavily using command blocks, armor stands can be used to keep scoreboard objectives that are 'global' to the map, run commands, etc.

bedrock, the pose of the armor stand can be changed by interacting with the armor stand (or pressing the button on mobile devices) while sneaking, or by using a redstone signal. There are 13 possible poses. Armor stands can also hold items by interacting with the armor stand (or pressing the button on mobile devices) while holding an item that cannot be worn.

Behavior
Because armor stands are entities, they obey gravity, allowing them to fall and rest on non-full blocks such as enchanting tables, snow layers and slabs.

Any armor on the stand drops when the stand is broken. Armor stands can display enchanted and all forms of dyed armor. The effects of most enchanted armor have no effect when on an armor stand, with three exceptions:

 • Frost Walker creates frosted ice blocks on water as usual if an armor stand is pushed with a piston.
 • Depth Strider slows the movement of the armor stand when being pushed with water.
 • A player may take damage from hitting an armor stand that holds armor enchanted with Thorns.

Armor stands are not damaged by cacti but can be broken by arrows, tridents, and other projectiles. An armor stand destroyed by an explosion or a firework does not drop as an item. Armor stands in water and lava at the same time are not consumed by the lava.

be, armor stands can be affected by status effects. They can be 'killed' by Harming and Decay splash/lingering potions, lava, fire, and campfires, and they play the player death sound and fall to their side and disappear, yielding no armor stand item. If an armor stand is equipped with an item or armor, that item or armor is considered as "naturally-spawned equipment" with an 8.5% chance of dropping when the armor stand "dies" from the Instant Damage or the Wither status effect. If the dropped item is any form of weapon, tool or armor, it drops in a badly damaged state because the game considers it as "naturally-spawned equipment".

The stand wobbles slightly when being hit by the player.

java, it is possible to create an armor stand with arms using the summon command. It is also possible to change an armor stand without arms into a stand with arms by using the data command. The commands are as follows:

 • <code>/data merge entity @e[type=armor_stand,sort=nearest,limit=1] {ShowArms:1}</code>, which changes the nearest armor stand into an armor stand with arms.
 • <code>/summon minecraft:armor_stand ~ ~ ~ {ShowArms:1}</code>, which summons a new armor stand with arms shown.
 • <code>/summon armor_stand ~ ~ ~ {Rotation:[0.0f]}</code>, which summons a new armor stand that faces a desired direction (dependent on changing "0.0f" to other numbers like "90.0f" or "180.0f", otherwise it faces the same way as a default armor stand).

Trivia
 • Equipping armor stands with certain blocks and items can cause rendering glitches. According to Searge this is due to transparent rendering on entities not yet being supported.
 • Bedrock Edition has a version exclusive armor stand model, which includes posable arms.
 • Using redstone to change the stands reverse the poses, starting with the can-can pose first.
 • Placing the stand within three powered redstone dust always changes its pose to the honor pose. Repeaters also switch the stand to the honor pose if not set four blocks from one.
 • Using external tools, armor stand spawners can be placed.
 • Secret signatures for JAPPA, Chi Wong, and Searge can be found at the bottom of the armor stand texture.
