Method and Java[]

Nixinova added the method and edition parameters. Nevertheless, Experimental Gameplay is NOT in any edition other than Bedrock and the only method to activate it is through the toggle. I am waiting for a valid reason to keep the parameters here, or I will need to move this to another template, as having these can be useful. – Unsigned comment added by ‎ MetalManiacMc (talkcontribs) at 06:19, 27 April 2021 (UTC). This seems like the most relevant place to put this. The Java features are experimental and the template works with just a simple {method|} param.  Nixinova T  C   06:48, 27 April 2021 (UTC)
But other tweaks are necessary with this: nocat should be put too, and the beaker out of place... I believe a second template like what you put on ore vein would be a good idea.MetalManiacMc at your service fellow human! (talk) 06:54, 27 April 2021 (UTC)
Okay, sure. But only move that msgbox to its own template if there's any other pages it would be applicable to.  Nixinova T  C   07:01, 27 April 2021 (UTC)
I will for all of the cave features, and since it's very adaptable it can be used in the future.MetalManiacMc at your service fellow human! (talk) 07:22, 27 April 2021 (UTC)
I made a proposal on a testcases page that I created. I don't know if you like it, but it can be useful to not have to use 2 templates when we can just use a toggle to make this template work with both Java and Bedrock. Supeika (talk) 07:34, 27 April 2021 (UTC)
I like the idea, but would we ave to put toggle=Caves and Cliffs or will it be toggle by default? And can we have the two on the same page?MetalManiacMc at your service fellow human! (talk) 07:46, 27 April 2021 (UTC)
I didn't undestand you too well, but I'll explain how to use this:
You can use {{Experimental Gameplay/testcases|toggle=Caves & Cliffs}} or {{Experimental Gameplay/testcases|bedrock|toggle=Caves & Cliffs}} to add a specific toggle option. You can use {{Experimental Gameplay/testcases|java}} to use the datapack variant, and yeah I made the |1= parameter the template type toggle (bedrock and java), and moved the Experimental Gameplay toggle specifier to a |toggle= parameter. Supeika (talk) 13:35, 27 April 2021 (UTC)
Since the datapack won't be around for long but the toggles yes, I'd recommend putting edition= as a named parameter and toggle= as {{{1}}}.MetalManiacMc at your service fellow human! (talk) 13:48, 27 April 2021 (UTC)
Done, what do you think of the template? Supeika (talk) 14:08, 27 April 2021 (UTC)
Perfect in my opinion. I'll work on the docs then sync (if no one objects)MetalManiacMc at your service fellow human! (talk) 14:10, 27 April 2021 (UTC)
I'll port the changes to the main template if they are good. You can also see the testcases page for some examples on how to use the new version, to see your opinion. Supeika (talk) 16:30, 27 April 2021 (UTC)

Template name[]

Recently Nixinova moved this template to "Experimental Gameplay" and created a new template called {{experimental feature}}. I think that both templates can be merged back into just {{experimental}} as they don't have so much differences. If you see the sandbox page and the testcases page, I've made both versions usage coexist on just one template. The default template is for Bedrock, but using a parameter called edition like this: |edition=java, we can make it a template for Java. The usages are easy to understand, and both can be on the same template page instead of being separated. Supeika (talk) 18:14, 29 April 2021 (UTC)

{{experimental Gameplay}} is a more permanent template; {{experimental feature}} should just be a one off for 1.17/18 so I think it's best to leave them separate so as to not create a mess that needs cleaning up later on  Nixinova T  C   04:28, 30 April 2021 (UTC)
While that's true for the moment, we can't be sure if Mojang will release on future versions more datapacks for additional experimental content, and also all (or most of) Experimental Gameplay templates get removed anyway when the full release is released, so for me both are at the same level of permanence. Also, I made the template toggle specifically default for Bedrock to make Java usages easier to update, since they need to be used with the |edition=java toggle, and since both templates are anyway small, we can keep them merged. Supeika (talk) 04:54, 30 April 2021 (UTC)
No point keeping around an unused template that just "may" be used in the future, it wouldn't be that hard to recreate if they were to do this again. This does seem like a one off however.  Nixinova T  C   05:45, 30 April 2021 (UTC)
I think that having two different templates that have the same purpose but enabled on a different way doesn't seem really eficient. Yeah, this "may" be used on the future or may not, but it's better to not separate things that are very related. The "an experimental datapack" text can be changed to other method if there is one on the future, like we can change ""Experimental Gameplay" toggle" with a parameter. Anyway, I think that we need more opinions here, because I don't think you are wrong. Supeika (talk) 15:25, 30 April 2021 (UTC)
