This template should be used when certain necessary information is absent from the article. Please open a corresponding discussion detailing the missing information on the article's discussion page before placing the tag. If a consensus is reached that the information should be included, it is inserted in the article and the template is removed, or if no one contested the proposal, keep waiting to prevent adding unsourced information.

This may assist in avoiding edit-warring by making a good faith attempt to achieve consensus before putting a particular piece of information in an article, especially if it's controversial information.

Usage

• The 1 parameter adds at the end what it is missing.
• The 2 parameter changes the "article" word to what is written on the 1 parameter, and then adds at the end what is missing.
  • If used and the 1 parameter says section, it changes the template to a section mode.
• The nocat parameter prevents that the pages using this template to be added to Category:Articles to be expanded
• The talksection parameter changes the "talk page" text to link to a specific section of the talk page.
• The type parameter changes the category the template sets to articles:
  • If type=old, it sets the Category:Articles missing historical information.
  • If type=data, it sets the Category:Articles missing data values.
  • If type=code, it sets the Category:Articles missing technical information.
