This template can optionally be used when a page has started the process of being merged into another page, often following a discussion, explaining to the reader that there is a merge ongoing and some information may be duplicated across several pages. It should be removed once the merge is finished, at which time the page will usually be redirected to the merge target.

Syntax

This template has two parameters:

• {{{1}}}, should be set to the merge target, with no brackets. Optional but highly recommended.
• {{{nocat}}}, if set to any value, the page will not be added to Category:Merge in progress. Optional, generally not recommended for mainspace pages.
