Could someone go through and make this page look better? I don't really know much of the formatting.--Minecraftdino 13:43, 6 September 2012 (UTC)

Why Enderman Skeletons?

I noticed that the trivia suggests that these are Endermen skeletons, but it doesn't seem right. The dimensions of the limbs are off, and Endermen don't use swords while living. I'm going to remove it until this is proven, if it even can be. - DarkAuk 00:12, 7 September 2012 (UTC)

Yes they are tall, and dark colored. But that is they have in common. They are more like the zombie pigman equivalent to Skeletons. --Minecraftdino 00:45, 7 September 2012 (UTC)

Spawning

The page says that the skeletons spawn in fortresses, but I have yet to see one. Can anyone confirm this? 98.159.27.28 00:20, 7 September 2012 (UTC)

The only place I've seen them is nether fortresses. And I've seen a few. --Minecraftdino 00:34, 7 September 2012 (UTC)

Is it the fortress that they spawn in or netherbrick or something else? In other words, does the game count fortresses as its own "territory" like a biome or village or can player made structures also spawn wither skeletons?--198.40.29.7 13:43, 7 September 2012 (UTC)

It's the position, just like blazes. Building a house or removing the nether brick will not affect it. HotdogPi Come to my page! 23:50, 7 September 2012 (UTC)

I've seen three in the same fortress. I have not seen them in any other place (but another nether fortress) --Spy227X 00:14, 8 September 2012 (UTC)

When I went further out and found a Nether Fortress in previously unspawned chunks I saw quite a few Wither Skeleton's spawn. However at my old Nether Fortress (previous to installing the snapshot) I don't see them spawn at all. Anyone else see this? 72.179.6.116 00:01, 11 September 2012 (UTC)

  • I'll confirm this, I goofed around in a previously generated Nether Fortress(NF) one night and never saw one. Later, I found an unknown NF and they were all over place, about half the rate of ZPM. A work around would be to evacuate the Nether, exit the game and delete(or rename) the "DIM-1" folder in your save folder so the next time you enter everything is reset its regenerated fresh. Buzzaro 02:56, 18 September 2012 (UTC)
  • Yes, same here. I've been running around two previously generated Nether Fortresses and nothing. No Wither Skeletons and no Blazes. Decided to hunt for a freshly generated Nether Fortress and they spawn aplenty there. I'm surprised there's so little information on this.
  • I have seen them in a very old nether fortress that has been there since they were first introduced, so I think you two may have just been unlucky. JohnnyAlpha 23:27, 25 September 2012 (UTC)
  • I had the same issue, that's why I came here. Not sure if JohnnyAlpha is a troll or just mistaken. 78.105.8.153 11:48, 28 October 2012 (UTC)
  • I went and found myself a new Nether Fortress, and had plenty of Wither Skeletons spawning; that's after hunting around my existing Nether Fortress for well over 45 minutes and finding plenty of Blazes and Magma Cubes, but no Wither Skeletons. But when I returned from killing them, suddenly I had wither skeletons in my original Nether Fortress. Maybe travelling in the nether allowed the original nether fortress chunks to be updated? Or maybe seeing a wither skeleton triggered their spawning in already loaded chunks. Either way, it certainly wasn't simple luck; having had none for 45 mins previously, I'm now getting one every 2-3 minutes. 78.105.8.153 20:41, 28 October 2012 (UTC)
  • I see em spawn in nether fortresses generated way before their introduction

Swimming Bug

If you make a 1x3x1 fully sealed space (3 tall), spawn a wither skeleton inside, and place water or lava in the middle (or bottom?) it will swim up until its head is inside the ceiling, and it will suffocate inside it. Cultist O 03:16, 11 September 2012 (UTC)

Wither effect and regeneration

I have done a few tests on hard difficulty and it doesn't seem that Wither skeletons regenerate health when the player is under the wither effect. I did the tests by hitting them with fists until they were one-hit kills and then let them hit me a few times. They were always one-hit kills after their effects, but I would like other people to confirm this before I change the page. 212.226.57.37 15:44, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

  • Same thing here, but i'll bet that if you have a wither spawned the wither will gain health while the skeleton doesn'tTrigger hurt 00:54, 26 September 2012 (UTC)

Merge Page

I have denied (with facts) the separation of Zombie Villagers and Zombies because of similarities. I believe that Wither skeletons should be merged with Skeletons, because of their shared entity ID (like zombie villagers and zombies), their shared AI (like zombie villagers and zombies), their shared appearances (it is only a darker version of the skeleton), and their shared characteristics, such as the ability to wear armor and equip items, and that helmets prevent burning from sunlight. Trigger hurt 14:13, 4 October 2012 (UTC)

Do not merge that!
I have given perfect reasons for merging, care to give me info on why it should not be merged? Trigger hurt 14:51, 9 October 2012 (UTC)
Personally, I think they shouldn't be merged either. I agree, they do have similarities, but they have a good deal of differences as well, more than the zombie/zombie villager. In that case, it was simply a zombie with a different head.
Wither Skeletons and normal Skeletons are a lot more different (ie. they only spawn in the nether, they have different drops, their attacks deal more damage, they are larger, wither effect, etc.), so I think they should remain separate articles. There are too many differences that overpower the similarities. 24.36.104.78 19:27, 12 October 2012 (UTC)

I think personally that the Wither skeleton should be in a ( ) by the skeleton.

I agree with the person above me because they are both skeletons and both share the same features.

I agree with the two above. You do it for nether slimes, why not for nether skeletons?

Guys how about: They merge pages, but leave most data from the wither skeleton intact, say as if it were a whole new large section in the skeleton page. I mean come on, considering they are both skeletons with only slightly different sizes and skins, you must realize that even with their differences they are still close relatives. Now i no longer strongly support merging the files (well, i actually never did really, it was not my suggestion), but they still should be merged in a way that keeps most of the data from the wither skeleton. Trigger hurt 20:50, 23 October 2012 (UTC)

I don't think this would be a good idea. Sure, they share the same characteristics, but they spawn in different regions and drop different items.

Ah, the "arguments" of the lumpers vs. splitters.. you see this all the time, studying Bio.: "how do you define a species?" well, the easy-answer, is if they Look different(ly)-enough, and /or Act differently-enough, then it Doesn't Even Matter, if they can reproduce-together (well, with the Exception that in Bio., If they Do reproduce-together, then that was one original definition of "species"). To me, Zombies - of TWO kinds, I think we can all agree - BOTH Look and Act (when Cured, if Villager Zombie, as opposed to, watch the prefix: "regular Zombie"), different(ly), so yeah.. you gotta admit that the Wither ones are even more-different from the "regular Skeletons," again (for one thing, they're so Dark, in the Nether, I would ask: "DO they even look, like Skeletons?"). As for how they reproduce, the easiest way to get lots of Villager Zombies is for "regular Zombies" to Infect, them: whereupon all the new Zombies are in fact Villager Zombies (who can be Cured-back, of course to Villagers); the point being, the Villager Zombies are indeed a splice of both Villagers and Zombies. In reading both articles, about 90% of the text is unique to each mob. Very little that can be said of one, can be said about the other. If you merged the two, you'd only save about 10% common text, and that can be said of almost any mob. Furthermore, in the future, they will probably be separate entities, due to the various bugs associated with them. Merging these two articles would be pointless, and inaccurate, as no one could possibly mistake the one for the other, as you could with Zombie Villagers. Rip-Saw 18:26, 11 November 2012 (UTC) It would be like merging Zombie Pigman with regular Zombies. Except that the two Skeleton types are even more unique to each other. Wither Skeleton Jockeys

I think wither skeletons should ride on cave spiders instead of regular spiders Zigzagar 18:09, 4 October 2012 (UTC)

Poor cave spider, it's too small to be rided, especially since Wither Skeletons are slighty bigger than normal skeletons. it would be squished seconds after the wither skeleton sat on it. 190.238.145.37 18:50, 6 October 2012 (UTC)
lol But unfortunately the wither skeleton jockey cannot legitimately exist. Of course, unless they added a nether version of the spider or spiders in the nether... Trigger hurt 15:34, 7 October 2012 (UTC)
No, if you push a spider through a Nether portal it will have a 0.8% chance to spawn a Wither Jockey. Pigman Much Writer Qmark 13:05, 6 November 2012 (UTC)

Wither effect

I was playing my minecraft on easy mode, and was attacked by a wither skeleton. i look down on my health bar and saw that it was darkened and i had been inflicted with wither. after killing the skeleton, i checked if my game was on normal/hard, and it wasn't. I ask the wiki contriutors to find out more about the "wither" effect and if it is inflicted on easy mode, or if it was simply a bug. I was playing alone on a survival map, and i have no mods installed on my computer.

You're correct. Updated the article. --mgr 20:04, 4 November 2012 (UTC)
