How do you retain worlds when you use a new PC ?????

  1. Before you get rid of the old computer, go to the Minecraft saves folder (location varies depending on whether you're on Mac, PC or Linux)
  2. Copy the saved games you care about onto a thumb drive, CD, NAS drive or any other convenient location
  3. Install Minecraft on the new computer
  4. Quit Minecraft (just as a precaution)
  5. Go to the empty Minecraft saves folder on the new computer and copy the stuff off the thumb drive (or whatever you used) into it.
  6. Restart Minecraft
  7. You should see your old worlds appear in the list of available saves.

Signs and command blocks

Does signs and command block texts get recovered? (I'm worry about signs text) --Gabriponte22 (talk) 15:47, 14 June 2015 (UTC)

I think yes. Minecraft files got blocks NBT, so they will recover because in the file there are saved also the blocks NBT. --Gabriponte22 (talk) 15:52, 14 June 2015 (UTC)

What about...

Wouldn't doing tis cause a few problems?
1. The seed will be wrong.
2. What about your inventory and other things?
I think that there should be an included section on how to use nbtedit to read the .dat file.
Also maybe you should include a section on how corruption is caused an what it means?Pokechu22 20:22, 1 October 2012 (UTC)

going back to a previously saved session

Hi is it possible to log into your minecraft world on a previous day in effect to delete today's play where things have gone wrong? Thanks 90.212.161.23 18:36, 27 August 2013 (UTC)

Look up on Windows Help and Support "Previous versions: frequently asked questions." That should help. 😊 AwesomeMan31415926 (profile|contribs) 09:19, 9 June 2015 (UTC)

Minecraft pocket edition world freeze

For some reason my world in minecraft pocket edition has frozen. It's the new update 0.9.5. Once i go onto it, it will freeze for about 15 seconds then go back to the home screen. Anyone have any clues to how I can get my world back? Thanks

This need to be rewritten

This only for macs! Sure I use a mac but I also use pcs and If someone who really needs save a world and can't understand this must be rewritten for both macs and pcs!

Okay... but

While this does work, and all the things I build are completely fine, there's still something seriously wrong with the world. Right next to where I spawned, there was desert and grassland (while the world was customized and the biome set to 'mesa') suddenly cutting into the mesa landscape. It's like part of the world created to get my structures back is generated along with the previous world... Anybody else had this?

I see. Any way to fix/prevent it?

The only real solution is to make sure you do not recreate a world with the same name. Though you could use an external editor such as MCEdit and try deleting the chunks in the hope that they generate properly the next time. KnightMiner t/c 13:02, 9 June 2015 (UTC)

Alternate method of reobtaining world

I know Windows 7 has a previous versions restore method (see mshelp://Windows/?id=afb7ed89-ed63-4e07-a482-d7004a8f4012), and I've heard that could be used to return a world to a previous uncorrupted state too. Might this be added to the article? AwesomeMan31415926 (profile|contribs) 09:04, 9 June 2015 (UTC)

That is not a valid URL. Generally URLs start with "http://". KnightMiner t/c 13:02, 9 June 2015 (UTC)

World not being displayed in the list of saved games is the least of all problems...

I think that the article discusses a very minor stage of corruption. Every once in a while the saved world will get really corrupted. For example part of the landscape may disappear. I had once such a terrible happening where in the middle of my base (single player, survival mode) I got an approx. 30x30 hole to bedrock (and my base was almost at the top of a mountain). Another time I got a completely redecorated landscape that cut right through my base. And no, noone else has access to the game files (just to make sure that the "Someone pulled one on you" occurs as a comment to my post). Such corruption is rare but it is there and the article should add a section where it suggests regular backup of the world's data in order to make such disasters as less painful as possible. Conclusion: there are various stages of corruption which may result in a completely wasted data that cannot be recovered.

Still doesnt work...! D:

Ive literally tried everything out t here. I have a mac, I went through all the steps at least 3 times, and it didnt work.It feels like on normal worlds it would work, but i think i have a rare case.... because while i have the same issues / problems as everyone else, this method seemed to have worked but they passed on to the next stage of problems . Im just stuck. nothing works . Judging by how ive been desperately trying to retrieve my world back, you can probably tell it means a lot to me, and it does. Me and my best friend have been working on it for around 2 years and we've really developed it into something special. She started the world first, and thats why its saved in her computer , but its really not that strong.... one day she opened it up and it was gone so i told her to send me the duplicated file that was converted to a zip file. she then emailed it to me, and ive in theory, got the world, right? so i replaced everything to a new generated world and THAT diappeared. And ive tried everything at this point, does anyone have any suggestions?

Linux user here. Any mods? Computer Issue? Minecraft not installed properly? Low space? What version of Minecraft? Did you move the folder and cancel it when it was half way (meaning you seperated the world)? Removed world by accident then realized half way then cancelled? Please give a detailed error and I might be able to help. There could be a number of probs here. And lastly, add 4 "~" at the end of your edit to sign so we know which user/guest added it. Also consider getting a backup program for worlds. I use ZFS. | AndrewAB (talk|contr)AndrewAB 09:41, 26 July 2016 (UTC)

Updating to 1.13

My world file has been in the directory and appeared in the game as well. However, upon opening it after updating the game to 1.13, all my progress had been lost. My builds and everything gone, except for the inventory I was carrying at the time. At my spawn (in a mesa), there is an exposed mineshaft where it wasn't in the previous versions, and the rest of the caves, trees, etc. became redistributed (I know that this happens in any same seed between different versions of creation).

The issue here is that other worlds that I opened and were created in versions long ago did generate with everything intact and the only new stuff came in unexplored chunks. My survival world got the worse of it. Not sure if it's even possible to recover the things now, as I have already tried this method, or probably did it wrong. 76.250.71.2 00:35, 10 August 2018 (UTC) 76.250.71.2 00:36, 10 August 2018 (UTC)

Working on broken save

How am I supposed to Re-create the minecraft world, when it is not showing o_O? Sakrafix123 (talk) 08:30, 15 August 2019 (UTC)

No longer autorepairing in Bedrock 1.16.0

My world got corrupted with a texture pack, but the only message i got was "Unable to join this world". Think this is a slight corruption (the world stays on the list). 87.49.45.121 07:48, 6 August 2020 (UTC)

Section for how to prevent world corruptions

I want to add a new section for ways to prevent world corruptions. I remember when all my worlds got corrupted and it took me a while to get them back. One way to prevent world corruptions is to back up worlds last played on a different release or snapshot.
