SORTING MACHINE UPGRADE

The video on this page describes an overflow problem with the sorting machine. I may have found a fix:

Put a space between each of the sorting hoppers. You can upgrade your double chests so they face forward this way. You can also put a feedback loop along the top in case any of the hoppers overflow and start clogging up the system. I have only tried this in 1.5.2 --65.74.70.63 23:14, 22 May 2013 (UTC)Habib_Ackbar

Layout for one cell. The item channel runs through "I", and the output (usually a double chest) is at "O". The hopper right below "I" contains the 22 items, and the hopper right below the redstone torch contains 1 item.
How about this? It won't clog up because the bottommost hopper is always enabled, while you don't need to put any spaces between units. I'm very proud of this design. Tested only on MCPE 0.14.0 but I believe it works on any editions. --Depressed pho (talk) 17:28, 3 March 2016 (UTC)

This doesn't work in MCPE probably due to a bug.
In theory this should work as well but in MCPE 0.14.0 it doesn't, probably due to MCPE-12848. Every time an item comes in, the middle hopper gets enabled for 5 redstone ticks instead of 4. --Depressed pho (talk) 04:36, 4 March 2016 (UTC)

"Item counter" solution doesn't work or I can't figure out how to implement it properly. Can anyone confirm please that it works? I'm using BedrockE. --87.69.177.22 08:45, 15 April 2018 (UTC)
