How do we know it's steak? Jeb said we'll be able to "eat cows", but cows don't *just* produce steak. I mean, there is beef as well (which I had listed as a possibility on the Upcoming Features page until someone removed it). --Warlock 18:50, 20 July 2011 (UTC)
- I added the conjecture tag because Jeb did not say a name for it, and it could be beef, possibly. Verhalthur (talk)(contribs) 18:53, 20 July 2011 (UTC)
Name change[]
I am going to request a name change to Beef because while a steak is a specific cut and cooked portion of the Cow, the neutral term for Cow meat is Beef. Verhalthur (talk)(contribs) 18:59, 27 July 2011 (UTC)
- Confirmed as steak. leaving as such. --Kizzycocoa 20:21, 27 July 2011 (UTC)

- by the very same tweet the page came from. --Kizzycocoa 21:25, 27 July 2011 (UTC)
- The tweet says "Who said anything about NOT eating cows? =)" - nothing about steaks. Beef comes from cows as well... --Warlock 21:46, 27 July 2011 (UTC)
- oh? hmm. ok then.
- still, for now, steak is acceptable. at this time, as the page is set up as such, it should be known as steak.
- I must note, I hate when mojang leaves us high and dry on these issues. --Kizzycocoa 21:52, 27 July 2011 (UTC)
- The only reason I particularly care is beef seems like it could have some interesting crafting possibilities (like hamburgers :D). But yeah, I wish they'd just come out and say what they're doing. --Warlock 22:02, 27 July 2011 (UTC)

- As the new item name has been now confirmed as steak, I stand corrected. :) Verhalthur (talk)(contribs) 13:45, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
Steak is actually Cooked Beef and beef is actually the part you eat from the cow, it is raw. But people call steak "beef" because it is easier. :P ►H_Drake | talk contribs
Speculative?[]
Isn't this completely speculative, since I have seen it only to base in TWO TWEETS. CosmoConsole my page! my talk! my contributions! 07:41, 11 August 2011 (UTC)
- Nevermind, now new info added so no longer two tweets or speculative CosmoConsole my page! my talk! my contributions! 16:49, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
Image confusion[]
There are 4 images there. The first one is obviously raw porkchop. According to the cooked porkchop page, the yellowish one is now the cooked porkchop, and the current cooked porkchop is the new steak. The leftover one is raw beef. Can someone confirm this? Cool12309(T|C) 20:16, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
Yes, probably... the red-ish porkchop is probably raw beef. Calinou - talk × contribs » 20:28, 16 August 2011 (UTC)
- Can we get a source for this, STAT? I hate these edit wars -.- --HexZyle 00:29, 17 August 2011 (UTC)
- There is no source detailing which is which. However, compare these images of porkchops to these images of steak. Steak is universally redder and darker. I don't usually say this, but this may be something we can claim without an official source. Verhalthur (talk)(contribs) 13:21, 17 August 2011 (UTC)
Personally, I think Notch was feeling really lazy, but wanted to make steaks, so he pretty much copied a HUGE chunk of porkchop programming, and after making the new porkchop and raw steak textures, he said "Meh" and copied the old cooked porkchop texture. Steak vs. Cooked Beef[]
It says it is called Cooked Beef on Bedrock Edition; however, I have heard it is called Steak on Xbox edition. Can anybody confirm or deny this? For both Xbox One and 360?70.95.12.240 16:51, 30 March 2018 (UTC)
Move to Cooked Beef[]
I don’t see how we could choose a name that agrees with both the Java Edition name and the Bedrock Edition name. Since more people play Bedrock, we should use the name in Bedrock Edition, which is Cooked Beef. The Blobs

- Bedrock hasn't recieved the Flattening item names yet, and iirc Helen confirmed it eventually would. So Oppose, at least unless it stays Cooked Beef when the Flattening comes. Until then, I think a redirect is fine. -PancakeIdentity (talk)
