Link to Texture Pack Ender
Should probably be a link to a Mojang page hosting the file, not the file itself. It's harder to trust, less informative, and any editor could hypothetically edit the link to point to a malicious .jar instead.

Are the noon/day/night/midnight sounds excluded from resource packs?
Resource pack tutorial?
I read through the list but did not see anything that would imply it's the sound(s) played at different times of day. I searched for and then played a couple of the vaguely-named sounds, but either they were music (too long to be the time-of-day sounds) or my computer couldn't find the files (even-though I have an extracted 1.8 resource pack on my computer that I use as a guide). Are the time-of-day sounds taken as a tidbit from some other sound? If so, which ones? I've tried just Googling this, but I don't know what to call these sounds, and all my search results have been useless so far. Or are those sounds missing from this wiki list? If so, can someone please add them? Thanks. 50.181.85.8 10:27, 5 February 2015 (UTC)
We already have an outdated texture pack tutorial, will we get a new one on creating a resource pack?

Should we add a list of subfolders, item names, etc to make it easier to make resource packs?
  +
:Almost all of the changes are related to the model format. Specifically, almost all of the display tag data has changed, a lot of old models now use the [[Model#Block states|multipart format], and models such as fishing rods and bows now use item tags for states rather than hardcoded states. Assuming you have done nothing with models, the only change really affecting you would be that clocks and compasses now use item tags to determine the frames based on time/direction, rather than an "animation".
Considering that there are now several hundred new and unique names for each texture, which are in some cases difficult to guess (ex. cloth0=white wool, diode=repeater, etc.), should we add a minimizable list of item/block texture names and their respective subfolders? It seems like this would be a highly useful resource for mod and resource pack makers. We could use Dinnerbone's unstitched texture model as a base for the list (see the texture pack wiki page for the .zip download); while this list is already outdated and only contains blocks and items (no entities or environment textures ex. sun/moon, chests) it would be a great start, and could be easily added on to.

  +
:The best spot to find help with updating would be reading the changes on model (should all be marked with [upcoming]), and if you have any other questions, a good place to ask would be on the [forum:mapping-and-modding/resource-packs/resource-pack-help Minecraft Forums] (around here I seem to be the only resource pack expert, and just about everything I know about this I already added to the articles). <span class=nowrap>–<span style=color:#B44>KnightMiner</span> t/c 20:53, 1 October 2015 (UTC)</span>

Dispenser sound
If not a list then perhaps we could add on to that file and create a full resource pack template for people to download, that way people could download that and simply modify the textures as they please and save them under the same name without having to create new ones and figure out where to put them.

  +
I can't find the dispenser failing sound. Where is it? I thought the most fitting was "wooden_click.ogg", but that's really just the wooden button. I can't find anything else that sounds like it belongs to dispensers. Fabian42 (talk) 18:02, 23 April 2016 (UTC)
Note: the reason I'm not doing it for myself is because I'm no good at formatting pages on the wiki and I have no idea how to pull that type of list off, although I could make a list of all the texture names if someone else could format the page (and obviously everyone likes the idea in the first place).

:I'm pretty sure the failing sound is just the default "random.click" (successful one) but with a lower pitch. :A list of editable files could be useful. To save effort, most of it can probably be copied from minecraft.jar and .minecraft/1.6. As for a resource pack template, the Minecraft Terms of Use don't address it specifically, but it might fall under the "don't distribute anything we've made" rule. Converting old packs requires TWO converters, one to get it updated to 1.5 and another to get 1.5 to 1.6. You've only got the second one linked (in history under 1.6). I really think both should be linked, and probably a LOT sooner in the article.
:No, the treeview is a list, collapsible uses tables. I have a question. I looked in the [lang] folder under [assets], and I couldn't find a file named [en_us.lang], which I am assuming is the American English language, yet American English is available when I play. PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!

What is the difference between the resource pack selection screen in 1.14 and before? The two people who attached the two images just had a different GUI screen and the old one of course doesn't contain "programmer art". But what else? If it's just the "programmer art", there shouldn't be a "before" image, everything in that image would also be contained in the "after" image. Fabian42 (talk) 09:46, 30 April 2019 (UTC)
Let me see. First, I believe the sounds have to be .ogg files. Here is an example: If you want to make the bow sound like a blaster, first you have to find a sound effect on Freesound or some other website(or record it yourself). Next, rename the file to [bow.ogg]. This is the name of the sound effect of the bow firing. To see where to put the sound files for all your custom sounds, look at the Folder Structure section on this page and in there, look for the names of the sounds you want to replace. I hope this helps! Good luck with your Star Wars Pack, I'm sure it'll be great!

Recently, I was trying to retexture Arrows to lasers (the entity, not the item) and I found out that the entity/arrow.png image was 32x32, instead of 16x16, like everything else* in the default resource pack. Is this how it's supposed to be?

height says "The height of the tile in direct pixels, as a ratio rather than in pixels."

This is confusing as I don't know what the ratio is a ratio to, or the difference between a "direct pixel", which seems to be a ratio as well, and a pixel.

::: I agree with Meringue here, the wiki is not a very good place for listing things made by the community. It has to be constantly kept up to date rather than letting an existing website do that automatically. If you want that list you should work on it yourself, don't just say it should exist and then tell us to add it. Texture Packs/Resource Packs change and appear and disappear too often to easily maintain a list for, especially on a wiki. <font color="green" style="text-shadow: 0px 0px 8px #0f0;"><font color="green">LB</font>(<font color="green">T</font>|<font color="green">C</font>)</font> 20:22, 15 August 2013 (UTC)

A resource pack list with one single pack has just been added, that's extremely useless in my opinion - either add all packs and update the list constantly or let it be at all?

Yes, this list with 1 pack is useless, but the existing Texture Pack lists are updated to Resource Pack Lists, but there's no Link. And adding 3 Links would be easy and useful. --80.139.33.5 18:29, 23 January 2014 (UTC)

The resource pack i was using changed the names of items! What is going on? I didnt know you could do that. I used the Portal resource pack, it used to be a texture pack, and while it was a texture pack everything was normal, but as soon as i unstiched it the Blue Wool turned in Wheatly?!?!?! I use no mods, and didnt rename using an anvil, because it was fresh out of my creative inventory. This makes 0% sense. Mokiki 00:33, 1 September 2013 (UTC)

All right, I just want to say that this was a really big help to me. I don't want this to sound like I'm being demanding and ungrateful. That being said, the way I found out about colormaps was from the Novaskin Texture Editor. They were in a folder under textures called colormap, and there were two images in that folder: [foliage.png] and [grass.png]. My guess is that grass.png was the one he was talking about in his post since grass is determined by the biome.(I will admit that I might be completely mixed up with my figuring.) Do you happen to know anything about the foliage.png? I would really appreciate it.

I apoligize if I sounded ungrateful and demanding. Please forgive me.

Just wondering, in the animation properties section it mentions being able to add this as a frame entry:

Are the noon/day/night/midnight sounds excluded from resource packs?

What are you talking about? Are you sure you're not using a mod? There are no sounds associated with time of day. LB(T|C) 16:21, 9 February 2015 (UTC)

Changes in 1.9?

It is stated that the required version number will be changed, will there be any breaking changes to resource pack structure or composition? Are there any how-tos to explain migration from 1.8.x to 1.9? –Preceding unsigned comment was added by 83.171.173.84 (talk) at 14:45, 01 October 2015 (UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~

Almost all of the changes are related to the model format.
The best spot to find help with updating would be reading the changes on model (should all be marked with [upcoming]), and if you have any other questions, a good place to ask would be on the [forum:mapping-and-modding/resource-packs/resource-pack-help Minecraft Forums] (around here I seem to be the only resource pack expert, and just about everything I know about this I already added to the articles). Dispenser sound

I'm pretty sure the failing sound is just the default "random.click" (successful one) but with a lower pitch. You won't be able to change its sound using a resource pack. KnightMiner t/c 19:30, 24 April 2016 (UTC)
Thanks, that's it! I just overlooked it before. I now deactivated both, I don't really need the successful sound either. Fabian42 (talk) 19:36, 24 April 2016 (UTC)

Link to first converter

Converting old packs requires TWO converters, one to get it updated to 1.5 and another to get 1.5 to 1.6. You've only got the second one linked (in history under 1.6). I really think both should be linked, and probably a LOT sooner in the article. –Preceding unsigned comment was added by WildBluntHickok (talkcontribs) at 10:34, 19 May 2016‎ (UTC). I doubt many people are still needing to convert texture packs to resource packs, though in any case since that is useful information I moved it to the texture pack article. (as the beginning is a bit more useful than the result there, and the first converter has nothing to do with resource packs anyways) KnightMiner t/c 04:19, 20 May 2016 (UTC)

You are better off asking on the forums for something so specific. This article explains in general how resource packs work and the structure, so you should be able to find the needed information there, but if not the forums can give additional help. KnightMiner t/c 22:13, 18 July 2018 (UTC)

1.14

What is the difference between the resource pack selection screen in 1.14 and before? The two people who attached the two images just had a different GUI screen and the old one of course doesn't contain "programmer art". But what else? If it's just the "programmer art", there shouldn't be a "before" image, everything in that image would also be contained in the "after" image. Fabian42 (talk) 09:46, 30 April 2019 (UTC)

Confusing descriptions for height and width in animation section

width says "The width of the tile, as a direct ratio rather than in pixels." height says "The height of the tile in direct pixels, as a ratio rather than in pixels." This is confusing as I don't know what the ratio is a ratio to, or the difference between a "direct pixel", which seems to be a ratio as well, and a pixel.

Mincerafter42 (talk) 18:47, 5 November 2019 (UTC)

 • I myself get confused by the description, as this is the first time for me working with a resource pack and textures that are larger than the usual 16x16. The "ratio" thing only confuses me, as I have no idea what f.e. the ratio would be on a 16x34 frame... Some example or clarification would help. 11:27, 24 November 2021 (UTC)
