On Android ?
It would be great if Notch puts Minecraft for android and not only Xperia PLAY devices!
- The article clearly states that its being released on Android, and the Xperia PLAY is Android-based. What's your point?--Quatroking - MCWiki Administrator 07:41, 7 June 2011 (UTC)
- I ment that the version of that minecraft isn't made for android devices without a hardware d-pad, normal android phones/tablets only have a touchscreen.--Wiki-asd-97 - MCWiki User 7:16, 7 June 2011 (GMT)
- Huh? It is coming to all Android devices at some point (after a period of Xperia exclusivity). --Warlock 21:31, 7 June 2011 (UTC)
- Most Android devices don't have a native Java virtual machine unless the OEM installs KVM. The current version might run via Playstation Suite on Xperia PLAY. Maybe they plan to compile for Dalvik. Though I couldn't see it being easy to play with a touchscreen or slide out keyboard. 98.204.241.46 23:38, 28 September 2011 (UTC)

iOS?
Just saw the news that say it will be PRORABLY released to iOS next year. By the way,is there any proofs of that? Also, I don't think it is a full-featured game, more likely an experiment or something...(I mean iOS) Using an iPad(I didn't bought it, but it's mine) and I can't think about playing minecraft on iPhone or iPad... 192.168.4.10 16:32, 28 September 2011 (UTC)
- See the the banner at the top of this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rCcsuPH4vJY "Eventually" ≠ "next year".
- So...They showed us this banner and it 100% means that it WILL BE?Well...
- tl;dr or huh?: We don't know! --{ Fishrock123 } (Talk) 17:34, 28 September 2011 (UTC)
iOS version has been released. The previous above comments are now irrelevant and (stupid/funny) (That's why should not speculate cause it leads to errors or debunking). The {{Program}} template needs to be updated to allow 2 links. Info about iOS version should be added. - Asterick6 09:34, 17 November 2011 (UTC)
References
Tried to add reference section but I guess it doesn't feel like working right now. I'll leave it for someone else to do; it's very difficult to edit Wiki pages on a phone. Electrk 17:58, 1 October 2011 (UTC)
0.1.1j Alpha has been released.
This version is available for all Android devices (AFAIK), includes a new main menu, touchscreen controls and a shorter item bar. Not sure what else is new BUT BE WARNED!!!! The update breaks the gamepad controls on the Xperia Play, forcing you to use the touch controls. So I'd recommend not updating if you have an Xperia Play.
EDIT: Seems to have been fixed in a subsequent bugfix update.
HTC Desire
I have tested it on my HTC Desire. It works fine here, not showing any of the problems that occur in the linked video. I'm running normal Android 2.2 with HTC Sense. No custom ROMs or anything. That could the problem with the person who is experiencing the problem.
With the initial release of Minecraft PE I had the same problem. After updating it, it disappeared. In both cases I was running Android 2.3.3
HTC Desire HD
I haven't played it for very long, but there doesn't appear to be any lag when playing with fancy graphics.
- Confirmed, HTC Desire HD with 2.3.3 works brilliantly P1cwh0r3 06:18, 9 October 2011 (UTC)

So many missing features
This is enough missing features that I think it's likely this is an entire rewrite of Minecraft. The iOS version might be a second rewrite. Any thoughts?

It's a rewrite in C++. That language was chosen so that it could be ported to iOS without another rewrite. —KPReid 18:29, 9 October 2011 (UTC)

oh. it was not stated on the page. also add that water and lava cannot be placed, and nether portals do not work and there is no fire. 16:43, 22 October 2011 (UTC)
Rewrite
The sentence in the about section is wrong in saying, 'The gameplay of the pocket edition is akin to that of the Creative gamemode, with minor differences such as having several of the blocks from the Beta version of the game.' The Pocket edition is more like Classic than it is like Creative. The contrast section should be changed into some sort of contrast between Classic and Pocket Edition and/or given its own page. Also it should include all of the differences not just a few quite noticeable ones.
Simple Math: Classic - Mobs + Terrain Generation and Water Physics ≈ Pocket Edition
It strikes me as odd that we can get (mostly) unuseful information about the weight of gold blocks but we still, have incorrect information on the page of one of the games itself.--BTH 08:48, 22 October 2011 (UTC)
iOS vs Android
Why is the gameplay section in two sectors? Is there something between Android and iOS? I did not found any caves or lava on iOS. Is that normal, or just a bug? NaNdummy 18:31, 18 November 2011 (UTC)
- When I origianlly constructed the gameplay section I assumed that there would not be a difference between IOS and Android gameplay. Whoever added those titles may have noticed a difference and failed to add it. The information in the IOS section is wrong and I will replace it with a expansion template until it is proved that both platforms have the same gameplay. No, there is not cave generation in the pocket edition. --BTH 18:57, 18 November 2011 (UTC)
- I added the section (with the expand section template as a placeholder) before it was released in anticipation of future (possibly minor) differences between the two. If anyone notices a difference, feel free to add it it, otherwise there doesn't need to be a separate section for each (although I recommend having 2 sections, because there are 2 versions of Pocket Edition afterall). Also for the
{{Expand section}}template, if you guys see anything to make it better, feel free to edit it cause I just ripped it from Wikipedia a few weeks back. Same with the{{Cleanup}}and{{Orphan}}templates. - Asterick6 01:58, 20 November 2011 (UTC)

- Due to the fact that cross platform gameplay exists, I would say that they are the same "version" of minecraft, but the code obviously differs because they are on different platforms; so graphics and such may vary, but cross platform would not work if they had different features. --{ Fishrock123 } (Talk) 02:17, 20 November 2011 (UTC)
- I understand at the half. Is cave generation in android, is lava in iOS? But thank you for answering so far! NaNdummy 17:33, 23 November 2011 (UTC)
- Kappische tweeted the final nail in this myth's coffin: http://twitter.com/kappische/status/142677729135968256; They are exactly the same game, just coded differently as required per platform. --Fishrock123 (Talk)(c) 18:59, 2 December 2011 (UTC)
- OK. But whats with cacti? They are developed, but not used. No lava, no cacti (inventory), no caves in ios. Bug? Look for source code, easily change the name from xxx.ipa to xxx.zip and decompile. You`ll see! NaNdummy 15:10, 16 December 2011 (UTC)
- It was meant to state that the iOS also contained the unused files that the Android version had, which means the game is pretty much identical in terms of looks and mechanics, (but not in code). Btw there are some differences between the two, so they're not the same. - Asterick6 06:41, 29 February 2012 (UTC)

iOS Control Subtleties
Some of the subtle parts of moving around and building include:
1.) You automatically jump up 1-block high areas when moving toward them (even backwards and sideways). Effectively making 1 block high terraces into stairs.
2.) While standing on the edge of a cliff or a high enough area that you cannot select a block below, if you look down and forward you can place blocks on the face of the block in front of you. I'm not sure if that makes sense. :(
Basically #2 allows you to do what Shift-crouching allows on PC or Mac without standing "off" the edge.

Why on iOS?
Why did notch port it to iOS? Apple's development stuff is crap, plus he could have just released it on android still using java because android supports java, unlike apple, which only supports some weird java rip-off Steve Jobs made that is only used on OSX and iOS.
Plus, jeb said it was 'coming to all phones that didn't suck'. Then why is it for the iPhone? 98.250.105.170 23:25, 31 January 2012 (UTC)
Well, mybe its on iOS because it don't suck. It actually is many ways better than android.
More availability?
It would really be great if the portable edition was going to be available on the Amazon appstore, or at least available to download (Still ofr a cost) on the Minecraft.net, (I know that there would be compatibility issues, but there may be a way around this, IDK, I am not a porgramer). I only state this as I have heard nothing about this being a possibility, and I have heard from many people that they would like this to happen, as would I.
Duplicate bullets
In the Gameplay section, there is both "World is finite as in Classic version but there isn't infinite water at world corners" and "Water in the pocket edition is finite as compared to the infinite water in Classic." These should be consolidated. Timothymh 02:36, 15 February 2012 (UTC)

Keyboard
Is it possible to add physical keyboard option to the iPad? I understand many won't go and buy a physical Bluetooth keyboard or jailbreak it. But playing minecraft without it feels strange.
Lastly through Cydia. I was able to get a BT mouse app to enable it on my iPad. Just thinking it would nice to run minecraft on the go. Since I'm not always home.
