Scary mob? Really? =

I doubt this is the supposed Scary Mob. Fish arent really scary

Google? Dctrjons 12:12, 1 July 2011 (UTC)

(Edit by another person) Actually, silverfish are a type of wood eating insect, that also eats paper and clothes.

...sugar,starches. Can make a mess of cereals. Not sure if this may be a crop problem. Dctrjons 12:20, 1 July 2011 (UTC)
You know what this means... griefers in single player. --Joejr50 17:13, 1 July 2011 (UTC)
Welp, apparantly this: Enderman is the scary mob :D --HexZyle 03:59, 27 July 2011 (UTC)
Nope, go to Talk:Enderman to see why it isn't. - DarkAuk 15:04, 27 July 2011 (UTC)
Idk about you guys, but between this and the (Sl)endermen i'm gonna start living underground...in a stone house...that is surrounded by a lava moat...and many traps... and with as much cookies as I dare go out and make. :s I r be scared for my wooden house of awesomeness. --Darkness Prevails 23:07, 21 August 2011 (UTC)

Not a fish

I doubt this will be a fish: silverfish is a well known house bug and the texture closely resembles the segmented, conical body of that little creature while at the same time not looking like a fish at all. I think that the "fish theory" in this article is unlikely enough to deserve deletion.--Wedhro 17:38, 30 June 2011 (UTC)

Thats what I think too. It is scary for girls, but not for all scary :) Kurtextrem 18:16, 30 June 2011 (UTC)
Presumed that it can only eat through wood. Notch might give it...a let's say, biological upgrade? STONE EATING MONSTERS MWAHAHA! --HexZyle 05:50, 14 July 2011 (UTC)

3D structure

Would be interesting to see whether a viable 3D structure of this mob could be created using blender or something. --SpitfireBro 18:00, 30 June 2011 (UTC)

That's quite impossible with the information we have now (just the texture). It's really hard to tell what shape something is, just by looking at a texture. The model doesn't need to be "foldable" from the texture, the texture's sides might not be next to each other in the model, since it is possible to map the dots of the model to correspond to any point in the texture. I'd say that is mission impossible, and we need to wait for the official release... --TheKax 07:09, 1 July 2011 (UTC)
After taking a closer look at the texture, I'd say it might be cylindrical (well, in a blocky way of minecraft) with different radius parts... I put together this kind pf small estimate of it's shape... Just a word of warning, this might be horribly wrong. And it's ascii art, so the wiki formatting screws it up, so open the edit mode, I put it into a hidden comment below to spare your eyes from the jumble. --TheKax 07:19, 1 July 2011 (UTC)
PS. and this might not have gone horribly wrong, since silverfish is an actual insect, and it is similar in shape as my ascii picture (again, look in the edit mode!): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Lepisma_saccharina_1a.JPG hope this sums it up. --TheKax 07:24, 1 July 2011 (UTC)
Just use the exact same folding that's used for every other mob and it works out nicely.
It basically makes a nice silverfish shape, an antenna, a 1x2x2 shape, and a bunch of haphazard little squares that will probably form legs. FatherToast 01:33, 4 July 2011 (UTC)
That means it can sneak through your doggy doors, along with many other shaped openings designed for keeping all other mobs out. Watch out! --HexZyle 05:53, 14 July 2011 (UTC)

Reason it's scary

Silverfish are supposed to eat wood right? aren't houses made of wood? Ray 22:16, 30 June 2011 (UTC)

no. designer and new player's houses are made of wood.
also, there is a fish called a silverfish. --Kizzycocoa 07:48, 1 July 2011 (UTC)
Going to request citation on that one, maybe in a story, but I know of know fish properly called a silverfish. This does not mean it won't possibly be a hybrid.Dctrjons 12:18, 1 July 2011 (UTC)
I spoke to notch and got info about silverfish, if this info I got from him is right silverfish will be in the desert he said it is a small and pestie thing cause it can spawn any where even in your home thats if its in the desert and if your mining in the desert be careful cause they live in 1x2 block tunnels, but they not only spawn in the desert he may also have different types like water and forest so this will change alot people won't always be running in side any more they will be always killing unless you put a ring of fire around your self and stand there for ever watching them burn.
Thankyou, nameless. (Please sign your posts) NPC houses have rooves made of wood --HexZyle 05:55, 14 July 2011 (UTC)
The nameless comments smells trollish. Don't believe everything you read online... --| TheKax | Talk 12:58, 15 July 2011 (UTC)
Yes I know. I tend not to believe, or even bother reading people who use run-on sentances. --HexZyle 03:58, 27 July 2011 (UTC)

Yea, people who use run-on sentences are either 8 years old or are of... Dampened intelligence. It's also the trademark of people who have no idea what they're talking about. Mybabypetghast 22:05, 27 July 2011 (UTC)

Possibly tied in with mushroom biome

Silver fish could be a new mob that spawns on top of huge mushrooms possibly, i think notch wouldnt add a mob that intentionally griefs your wooden structures for the sake of it ~~BlakusLockus

Pure speculation. Too early to say anything. --TheKax 10:21, 3 July 2011 (UTC)

True, We certainly are getting a lot of speculation over a texture file. Mybabypetghast 00:23, 27 July 2011 (UTC)

a bit unfair because what if you dont have stone? and you build it out of wood, these come and eat it, then sssssssSSSSSSSS BOOM! (wolfdog98)

A) Most people who play Minecraft have more stone than they can even deal with. B) Life, generally, isn't fair. - DarkAuk 23:18, 28 July 2011 (UTC)

Face Icon

I made a face icon for it, can anyone put it on the template and Mobs page? CCMM 05:38, 26 August 2011 (UTC)

Can't you edit Template:Mobs? Or is it locked? --HexZyle 06:14, 26 August 2011 (UTC)
Do we really even need it? (no offnse) TK | TheKax | Talk 14:55, 26 August 2011 (UTC)

Ever seen at PAX?

Have they been seen by at least one person at pax??? Tropius 01:31, 7 September 2011 (UTC)Tropius

No. They're very rare and everyone was busy checking out the new features and exploring rather than endlessly mining blocks for these little buggers --HexZyle 01:54, 7 September 2011 (UTC)

Actual Silverfish screenshots

A Redditor posted three decent screenshots not great resolution though. Silverfish gallery But he did have useful information on how they are generated. Reddit post: Silverfish --Ecksearoh 01:33, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

Spawn

Are silverfish the only mobs that can't respawn infinitely? --Trollrilla 21:36, 12 September 2011 (UTC)

Nope, because they can spawn infinitely, if there are more than two of them, they can.. multiply. --{ Fishrock123 } (Talk) 21:39, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
Except they don't multiply, they pop out of the blocks they are hiding in (destroying the block). You can prove this by /giving yourself block 97. --129.107.183.115 12:14, 13 September 2011 (UTC)

Destruction

It is established that killing silverfish with direct methods will spawn more silverfish, and killing it with fire will not. Could someone please test the four other methods of death? They are: Falling, Lava, Drowning, and TNT. Eligitine 19:41, 15 September 2011 (UTC)

From what i've seen, they take cactus,fire,collision(falling),and creepers can blow them up.Tropius 00:25, 16 September 2011 (UTC)Tropius

...Am I the only one who thinks these guys are cute even though they anhilated my entire house and my forest?BlockBarracade 20:11, 20 September 2011 (UTC)

Can they enter smooth stone?

As above. Xeoxer 11:49, 18 September 2011 (UTC)

Does it actually spawn additional Silverifsh?

Have gone through a stronghold and not been swarmed while killing silverfish. Tried spawning block 97 and surrounding it with dozens of stone, stone brick, and cobblestone blocks and none of the surrounding blocks spawned silverfish while I punched the one that came out of block 97.

Same thing happens on the SMP server I play on. I'm doubtful that attacking a silverfish actually spawns extra silverfish. Seems like it only causes silverfish in the vicinity to pop out and attack you. That's it.

Anyone able to confirm this? Tari 05:18, 22 September 2011 (UTC)

I cant find anything about spawn of additional silverfish in the code, only about summoning nearby Silverfishes and burrowing into stone/cobblestone/stone_bricks if player dies or runs away. — MiiNiPaaT|C 10:36, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
In that case, it might be wise to remove the lines that refer to silverfish spawning more silverfish and griefers using block 97 to summon swarms from the Trivia section. Tari 13:21, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
They do spawn, I've seen it in videos. They only spawn from a specific type of block made in Strongholds, I believe his block 97. Nothing else actually spawns them, then... In which case, griefers would have a hard time using it. MegaScience 13:29, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
"only about summoning Silverfishes from nearby silverfishBlock's". My bad. — MiiNiPaaT|C 13:37, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
I can confirm that Silverfish can spawn from cobblestone. However, it took about 64 silverfish for 6 cobblestone to break and spawn silverfish. It happens, just very rarely. Unless, of course, some of them burrowed while I was fighting. 70.246.60.105 16:09, 24 September 2011 (UTC)
"Unless, of course, some of them burrowed while I was fighting" That was most likely the case. I will wait till official 1.9 is out, then I'll look into source again.

huh?

on the yogscast i saw that a silverfish attacks, but i am just followed by that stupid creatures and i wont get hurt. i dont get it PMSF 11:29, 23 September 2011 (UTC)

In my SSP world, they simply push me, unless they are one block higher than me. On SMP, they are able to easy attack. --Trollrilla 02:02, 26 September 2011 (UTC)

Add to trivia?

Is it just me, or do silverfish seem to have a hard hurting the play? I made a pen and stood around for the mob to attack me and it seemed to have a very difficult time with hurting me. If anyone else has noticed this, maybe it could be added to the trivia. MrLeonov 08:06, 28 September 2011 (UTC)

The seem to only hurt your face.Dctrjons 13:22, 26 October 2011 (UTC)
Seems to me that they can't attack you if you are on level ground with them (something wrong with their collision box not meeting your feet collision box) They can attack you if they jump or if they are at a higher elevation than your feet. --HexZyle 13:30, 26 October 2011 (UTC)

Crash on block rollover?

Hey all. I'm on 1.9pre3. I hacked the hidden silverfish block into my inventory. Now, whenever I rollover that block, the game goes to the saving chunks screen, then black screens. Anybody else have this? 124.168.66.89 01:36, 9 October 2011 (UTC)

Umm, I'm pretty sure this is o the 1.9 pre 3 bugs page--BTH 01:40, 9 October 2011 (UTC)
