There is no map viewer (as of version alpha). You can, however, download a program called "cartograph" that will map your minecraft world for you. It 'tis rather cool looking. Cal-erstein

How to find a Dungeon?
The absolute easiest way of finding dungeons IMO is to temporarily delete the stone, cobblestone, sand, sandstone, dirt, gravel and coal ore textures ie make them see through. This doesn't require any third party programs (except image editing), and you don't have to tab out of the game and remember where the dungeons are. Just remember to save your terrain picture so you can restore it when you are done. Once the textures are deleted you can play the game for as long as you like raiding dungeon after dungeon. If you leave at least some pixels on the blocks you can even do cave exploring this way, making it easier to find close by cave systems and mobs and makes ores more visible.
I'm looking to know if there are any clues in which anyone know about legitimately finding a dungeon. I do not want to use a map viewer or anything like that to find one. I have only found one right now and it left no clue that it was even there. I simply heard a spider in the distance and that was it. Maybe when the dramatic music plays or something of that nature that there is one close by either within a certain block radius or simply a certain amount of blocks away via X axis. Again, I'm simply wondering if there are any helpful hints on finding some of these without having look them up so to say. Joshgt2 16:56, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

- Listen for mob sounds in caves. Dig towards mob sounds until you find where it's coming from. Remember to dig upward and downward too. Also, if you toggle the fog over and over, you can see fires through walls. If you see a bunch of moving fires, that's a mob spawn.PurpleKiwi 15:25, 6 October 2010 (UTC)
- I get this ringing noise a lot of the time when I walk into my base. It is almost like one of those Zelda noises that sounds off when your close to that secret objective. - You might be hearing cave sounds. That means there might be a cave nearby. It probably won't be a dungeon since you dind't hear mob sounds by it. PurpleKiwi 22:13, 12 October 2010 (UTC)

Has anyone had a Mob appear when they destroy a chest? I did but the room was very well lit, and I'm wondering in this is a booby trap or just a mob spawning somehow. Cairo

64 Blocks?
I just found a spider dungeon and noticed something that might be random or not. Aftter I put the torches and mined all the mossy cobblestone, noticed that i got a total of 64 blocks, coincidence with the stack cap? Luschinfloggen 22:07, 24 October 2010 (CDT)

Audio Cues?
I have noticed brief hints of "creepy music" that tend to play when near a dungeon, but is there any way to make it stop without turning off the sound? Will destroying the mob spawner inside be enough to cut the audio cues, or do I have to dig away EVERYTHING inside until it's no longer remotely recognizable as a dungeon, right down to the cobblestone? --Valos 17:14, 28 November 2010 (UTC)
- The audio is connected to the darkness of the room, not the fact that it is a dungeon. If you light it up, it should go away. If it continues, there is probably a cave nearby. Oa10712 18:01, 28 November 2010 (UTC)
- Ah, my mistake. I o know that I built my main fortress atop uneven ground, so I simply leveled down some parts while paving right over lower areas with stone. Those paved-over areas are likely the source of those noises, since I felt no need to put torches in a place that was going to be totally sealed up. --Valos 23:58, 28 November 2010 (UTC)

- most likely the double dungeon is two dungeons merged together. There are often reported about dungeons touching on the corners, but perfectly adjoined dungeons are VERY rare. I spend a lot of time making maps and X-raying the ground for dungeons, and have found adjoined, but not perfectly adjoined ones. --Melzardust 20:18, 23 December 2010 (UTC)

Smaller Dungeons or Dungeons Without Spawners: Trivia?
I started a new map (around 23h00 today) and browsed around it using the map viewer Minutor. I came across a patch of moss stone (~3*9) and upon closer investigation there was a chest inside a small rectangular room (directly above and connected to the moss stone). There was no mob spawner. I am curious as to whether this should be considered a dungeon, as it has moss stone but not a mob spawner. I have not investigated it in actual gameplay, but I took a snapshot of Minutor, including the entire map up until that point. I would upload the image to this talk page, but I am not sure how to add an image on a wiki (I don't use them often, as I usually just edit grammar/spelling mistakes).
If this is not a chunk error when the world was spawned, would it go under trivia that sometimes dungeons spawn incorrectly? Or would this be a once-in-a-while-not-worthy-to-mention-thing? If considered trivia, and if desired, I could get an image of it in game after I get some better-than-stone tools (as it is in a rather inconvenient location). Frozenne 07:31, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
Do items in chests regenerate?
I'm just wondering if items inside dungeon chests ever regenerate or if you can just go ahead and take the chests themselves with you without missing out on anything later. Kruton 18:43, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
- I've never seen any items regenerate - my guess is that the items are randomly picked when the dungeon is generated, and as such the items won't come back after being taken. Shokking 19:05, 12 February 2011 (UTC)

Easy Way to Find Dungeons
It's really quite simple. If you have a (somewhat) laggy computer, you can hit the f key to switch fog level. If you don't see a blue screen for a second with clouds, turn graphics to fancy. This lets you tell if it's day or night, even in caves, and lets you see torches, and *gasp* the flames in a mob spawner!
Sandstone Dungeon?
I've just created a new single player world and spawned almost right atop a very shallow dungeon, in a large sandy expanse. I dug down to it, and instead of finding cobblestone or mossy cobblestone, I've found a roof made of sandstone. Is this a new development?
I didn't notice that sandstone is now naturally generated under sand layers to prevent hanging sand collapses. So there's bound to be a traditional dungeon down here somewhere.

Dungeons are the only natural source of cobblestone walls, so the walls in the screenshot should be enough to show that it's a dungeon. —KPReid 15:20, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
