{{#vardefine:weekly-server|13w02b }

Not sure what wiki-fu that's used for, but I bet it's not supposed to be visible on the main page. --208.107.40.227 18:41, 11 January 2013 (UTC)

That is part of the template used to display the current versions of Minecraft. Looks like when it was updated to 13w02b, a bracket was accidentally removed. An admin should fix it shortly. --Kanegasi C 18:46, 11 January 2013 (UTC)

This page: More than half vandalism

It seems that about 70% of edits on this page that aren't reverts get reverted. This means this page gets vandalized a lot. Is there any way to stop that, like running a bot to stop the words "herobrine" and "server" or only allowing people with accounts to edit this page? HotdogPi ⑬㊲ 02:45, 28 January 2013 (UTC)

Current Pocket Edition version

This should be updated from "0.5.0" to "0.6.0". –Preceding unsigned comment was added by Droideka30 (Talk|Contribs) 00:15, 31 January 2013‎ (UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~

For future reference, version template update reminders should go on Minecraft Wiki:Admin noticeboard or just the Template talk:Version page. The front page simply displays Template:Version. Kanegasi C 05:08, 31 January 2013 (UTC)
Its 6.1 now. --007a83 (Talk|Contribs) 06:16, 3 February 2013 (UTC)

Someone fix the "Current Versions" box

It looks horrible --190.173.208.212 09:25, 4 February 2013 (UTC)

What is wrong with it? Please elaborate and if it's screwed up and not just to your taste, provide what browser you are using and a screenshot. Kanegasi C 18:10, 11 February 2013 (UTC)

Current versions - Development is out of date.

The "current versions" box still says that 13w05b is the latest snapshot, when it should say 13w06a. A Moon 12:15, 9 February 2013 (UTC)

It's still set to the old pre release.71.178.36.123 13:32, 9 February 2013 (UTC)

And it is STILL the case. --89.245.238.169 12:21, 11 February 2013 (UTC)

It has been changed to 13w06a on February 7th, the day it came out. I suggest you guys clear your cache, since it's a problem on your end, not here. Kanegasi C 18:10, 11 February 2013 (UTC)

Pi Edition

With the release of the Minecraft Pi Edition now here, we need to add the version to the main page as a version of Minecraft GingerGeek 19:24, 11 February 2013 (UTC)

Slight error

Ortothope, you made a slight error when updating the page (see the Upcoming features section). Also why is it that you didn't copy over the pictures in the version history to the main page? GoandgooTalk

I personally like ultradude25's picture idea for the version numbers, but it is a bigger change. A change like that needs to sit a little longer for more exposure before it is committed to the main page. It is a lesson learned (wordlessly, and by my deduction) by Quatroking's new logo, and probably why the header on the editcopy has been sitting there for ages, even before I messed with it. Kanegasi C 07:33, 14 March 2013 (UTC)
Thought I fixed the Upcoming Features bit when previewing, not sure why it didn't save. Anyway, I was mostly just updating the news, waiting on more discussion about the style changes. -- Orthotope 08:35, 14 March 2013 (UTC)

Why was Snapshot Removed?

The main page used to link to the latest snapshot, but since the release of 1.5 it was removed. Not to mention that there already is a new snapshot out for version 1.5.1 --24.220.123.1 17:02, 14 March 2013 (UTC)

It's still there??? ultradude25Talk

17:03, 14 March 2013 (UTC)
Nope. Just a link to the mojang website, no link to the wiki snapshot page. --24.220.123.1 17:06, 14 March 2013 (UTC)
You must have some major cache issues then, because aside from the brief period between the release of 1.5 and the release of the latest snapshot where there wasn't a current snapshot so nothing was shown there, it's right where it's always been. ultradude25Talk

What is a token for a server?

Hi, I just made a new server. It says to finish claiming the server, I need to add a token to the server's MoTD. I don't know what that is. I sound like a noob. But please tell me what it is and how I add a "token". Thanks! Bye!

108.76.190.121 19:35, 16 March 2013 (UTC)EaganGirl

That sounds like something related to whatever host or server listing service you're using, so look through the information on their website. The 'token' will be a specifically-formatted bit of text that you'll put on the 'motd=' line in your server.properties file. -- Orthotope 19:57, 16 March 2013 (UTC)

Minecraft reddit link.

There should be a link to reddit: www.reddit.com/r/minecraft –Preceding unsigned comment was added by Tables (Talk|Contribs) 22:01, 1 April 2013 (UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~

The links we support on the left side of the page and on the front page are either Mojang official or Curse-related. The Minecraft subreddit is community-ran and is not official. Kanegasi C 22:46, 2 April 2013 (UTC)
But Mojang members do link to it and ask for people to post ideas there, and there info on this wiki that is form /r/minecraft. It does not need to be on the main page, but it should be somewhere on the wiki. ----007a83 (Talk|Contribs) 16:15, 5 May 2013 (UTC)
That is a good point. We do honor things recognized by Mojang. Hopefully we could get other opinions first. Kanegasi C 16:39, 5 May 2013 (UTC)
Reddit should be treated like any other Minecraft community (YouTube, other forums and wikis, etc.) -- we reference it in text when appropriate (e.g., for a fact confirmed by a Mojang post on that site). If there is info on the wiki that was sourced from /r/minecraft, a reference link should be added (Mental Mouse and I have started adding refs for some circuit designs -- in Transmission circuit, for example -- though none from reddit yet). —Munin295 · Grid Book and Quill Grid Stone Pickaxe · 17:38, 5 May 2013 (UTC)
Oh, also: Reddit is listed as an official wiki source, so it is already recognized/honored. —Munin295 · Grid Book and Quill Grid Stone Pickaxe · 17:44, 5 May 2013 (UTC)

Update upcoming features box: MCXBOX has The End

Just saying that since the Xbox Edition now has The End, while the update box still calls it upcoming.

 Fixed Kanegasi C 16:25, 6 April 2013 (UTC)

€19.95 ($26.95 USD)

Any reason why € is first and USD is in brackets? Shouldn't it just be "€19.95 or $26.95 USD", not marking any one less important than the other? --5ives 03:06, 18 April 2013 (UTC)

It's not really about importance, it's just a common way to display conversion. The game is based in a country that uses Euros and is available to purchase with Euros. The USD amount is merely the current amount Mojang has chosen and it's entirely possible the amount could raise (or lower lol) if the conversion ratio changes by a decent amount. It's also a little bit about consistency since that's how the USD amount for the Microsoft Points below are displayed. Kanegasi C 03:12, 18 April 2013 (UTC)
I get it now though I would like to point out that Sweden no longer uses Euros, they currently use Swedish kronor. --5ives 08:11, 18 April 2013 (UTC)
Incorrect, they use both. Quite a few European Union countries still have their own currency, but all 27 of them honor and regularly use Euros, especially when buying and selling across borders, such as selling a game on the Internet. Kanegasi C 08:27, 18 April 2013 (UTC)

"Purchase the PC edition!"

"Purchase the computer edition!" should say "Purchase the PC edition!". Possibly to avoid confusion for people who confuse the term 'PC' with Windows computers add "Purchase the PC edition! (Linux/Mac/Windows)". --5ives 03:44, 18 April 2013 (UTC)

That confusion is the reason we changed it to computer in the first place. ultradude25Talk

03:57, 18 April 2013 (UTC)
But it's inconsistently unsuitable (making it seem redundant), and naive. We can still avoid confusion while keeping consistent suitableness. --5ives 08:09, 18 April 2013 (UTC)
Exactly what is confusing, inconsistent, redundant, or unsuitable about the phrase "computer edition"? -- Orthotope 07:56, 18 April 2013 (UTC)
I was actually referring to using "Purchase the PC edition!" alone as confusing, for people who confuse the term. It's inconsistently unsuitable (sorry, we must have been editing at the same time) because every other platform in the list is suitably named, making it seem redundant if confused as computers in general, as every platform listed is a computer platform. --5ives 08:09, 18 April 2013 (UTC)
Reading the Wikipedia article, 5ives does have a point, although I fail to see how using the common public definition of "computer" as naive or redundant. Not all common "misconceptions" are incorrect, just different interpretations. Kanegasi C 08:16, 18 April 2013 (UTC)
If taken as the the common public definition of "computer", then no, not at all redundant, but if taken as the technical definition then it is seemingly redundant. I just think it's more correct to say "PC", as "PC"'s generally don't include tablets/smart phones, video game consoles and small single board computers's, however "computer"'s can. --5ives 08:51, 18 April 2013 (UTC)
Note that XBox, Pocket, and Pi are in fact distinct editions, each of which have feature and interface variations. At this point, "PC" is more a branding issue than anything else -- my own objection to it would be that it seems to exclude Macs. I offer "desktop edition", figuring that at this point laptops (another branding category) have more or less merged into desktops, and are assumed to use the same software. --Mental Mouse 11:31, 18 April 2013 (UTC)
Note that Macs, as well as Linux and Windows computers come under the term "PC" and as mentioned in my initial edit to avoid avoid confusion of the term I suggest "Purchase the PC edition! (Linux/Mac/Windows)". --5ives 14:14, 18 April 2013 (UTC)
I get what you're saying. However, I think when the common person thinks of a "computer", they see a desktop or laptop computer. I would prefer to use PC, but it has such the massive misconception as just being Windows (and I think the (Linux/Mac/Windows) looks messy), so I'd vote in favour of "computer" as the least incorrect. ultradude25Talk

But if we follow misconceptions, they will remain misconceptions. --5ives 05:56, 20 April 2013 (UTC)

If we don't follow misconceptions and stay correct, people with misconceptions will be confused and usually not learn anything. I am assuming you meant that being correct has the side effect of making people realize they are wrong, which doesn't actually happen to the majority of people with misconceptions. They will either complain or attempt to change whatever it is to whatever they think is right. For some things, it's just better to follow the crowd off the cliff instead of being the one trying to divert people to a safer path. Have you ever heard of the concept "don't make waves"? If being correct causes a disturbance, which is more desired: being correct or having order? Kanegasi C 06:05, 20 April 2013 (UTC)

Whoops, somehow missed the "remain" in that sentence, edited. Yes, that is basically what I meant. But what are your thoughts on my suggestion to add "Linux/Mac/Windows" in there somewhere? That would be correct, have little to no disturbance, and would keep, I think, substantial order. --5ives 13:06, 20 April 2013 (UTC)

Rateings?

who thinks it a good idea to have a Ratings page thats shows rating of minecraft, minecraft Xbox 360, minecraft PE, and minecraft Pi. By lage/famous entities --That guy you know 06:43, 19 April 2013 (UTC)

Not sure about the general idea but if it's followed through with, how about a 'Critical' subsection of the Reception section on the main Minecraft article similar to Wikipedia's. --5ives 07:47, 19 April 2013 (UTC)
Sounds like that would be a good Idea 5ives --That guy you know 17:29, 19 April 2013 (UTC)
Well, our main Minecraft article is free to edit, you could do it yourself. Wikipedia might be a good place to start for a source of information. --5ives 13:22, 20 April 2013 (UTC)

Snapshots

Where it says: Test the latest development snapshot! (link to mojang.com) it should say: Latest snapshot version: 13w16a (link to /wiki/Version_history/Development_versions#13w16a). --Spy227X 23:13, 19 April 2013 (UTC)

That link is a generic link which would work for every snapshot update. Linking to each individual snapshot would require the page being updated weekly. GoandgooTalk

made some edits to the edit copy

so i have proposed some minor additions to the main page - via the editcopy - just wondering what is required for such changes to actually take effect on the main page?

basically just want to expand the official links section to include some additional reddit communities for platform specific minecraft versions - creating a new subheading for reddit communities - to include reddit.com/r/minecraft - reddit.com/r/minecraft360 - reddit.com/r/mcpe - reddit.com/r/mcpi

They are playing one of the snapshots of Minecraft. Those are development versions for the upcoming 1.6 update. Keeping an eye on mojang.com, the Version history/Development versions page, and other official sources will keep you informed. Next time, go to minecraftforum.net to ask random questions. Talk pages here are wiki related only. Kanegasi C 16:39, 3 June 2013 (UTC)
