'Removed and planned content' Template - idea

I think that placing removed mobs (e.g. beast boy, human) blocks (crying obsidian, gear) or planned ones (pigman, red dragon etc.) is quite strange. It should have its own template, where all uncorfimed, unused and removed content would be placed. What do you think? Xeoxer 12:59, 6 January 2012 (UTC)

This is something that has been discussed numerous times in many of the removed content pages with almost unanimous support. The categories have become extremely cluttered and unsightly since 2010-2011 and this is an easy, professional way to fix this. --Moxxy 18:39, 6 February 2012 (UTC)

wrong location for translation projects

hi! i've just surfed the minecraftwiki which is implicit the en-version and clicked on "Random page". The resulting page was a bit of a surprise and doesn't feel right. I got to http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Items/th which lies in the (implicit) en-wiki but is obviously not english content. therefor this page (and all similar pages) should be moved to their localized-wiki-subdomains (like th.minecraftwiki.net, de.minecraftwiki.net, etc), or otherwise in some special wiki-area, which will not be found by the random-function, as this function should deliver a random page of the currently used localization. greetings --89.199.19.219 18:22, 17 January 2012 (UTC)

I completely agree. I do not like clicking random and having some page in Japanese come up. I appreciate the redirect link at the top, but sometimes I just want to read some random pages. Is there any way we could get the random function to only work on English pages? -- Choolio123 11:46, 8 February 2012
I completely agree as well. This is an issue on many Curse run wikis (I edit the Terraria one) and is extremely annoying as it makes the feature useless. You're much more likely to run into a page that's complete gibberish to that individual. This doesn't just effect the English speakers, it ruins it for all the other languages as well. --Moxxy 17:51, 8 February 2012 (UTC)
Is there any way that you know of to fix this? I know that the original poster of this problem mentioned sub-domains. Is there any way we could get these such things? Choolio123 11:53, 8 February 2012
Admins can't even do this, yet alone me. I'm positive only the person/s who runs the site can make changes involving domains. --Moxxy 17:58, 8 February 2012 (UTC)
Subdomains are set up as soon as a project has shown enough commitment to the translations. Until that happens, I'm sorry, but you simply have to deal with it. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 18:56, 8 February 2012 (UTC)

The pages like Items/th are temporary staging areas until a translation project is reasonably complete and can be spun off as a self-sustaining wiki with its own community and administration. For example, the Chinese wiki has “graduated” in this way. So it's not a case that subdomains aren't being used, it's that they aren't used early on. —kpreid 19:46, 8 February 2012 (UTC)

Well that makes sense. I can see why that is in place, but I feel as though there should also be a way to detect your approximate location and apply that to the random button. Or maybe you could alter your own user settings to allow only English language randoms? Just an idea. Is this at all possible? -- Choolio123 18:45, 8 February 2012

Weekly builds removed?

Jeb_ is still doing weekly builds, why remove it from the main page? –Preceding unsigned comment was added by 93.130.30.135 (Talk) 06:18, 20 January 2012. Please sign your posts with ~~~~

Add Brewing to Popular Pages?

I saw that Enchanting is on the Popular and Useful Pages section of the Main Page, and was thinking that if that is the case Brewing should be on there as well.

Oh, never mind, I see it fits in "Gameplay" section of the page.

seeds

The Minecraft Wiki really needs a page on world seeds.

Like this one? -- Orthotope 04:14, 28 January 2012 (UTC)
Well I feel like there should be a section on this page about specific or unique seeds. We could make a new topic on the the seed page, but make sure you get enough seeds to make this a worthy section. Also provide pictures. Maybe we could even find seeds that spawn you in specific biomes. I would advise adding something about the 404 Challenge. Choolio123 14:32, 13 February 2012 (UTC)
That's been discussed ad nauseum, it's not going to happen because seeds change in virtually every major version update. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 19:57, 13 February 2012 (UTC)
That's true. I had never really thought of that before. I guess this discussion is closed. Choolio123 14:41, 14 February 2012 (UTC)

But what if we select seeds from the most recent one, and do a major edit every time a new update is released? Epicrcf

Trivia Fluff

I think we should start a clean-up project of major pages trivia sections. One of the issues that many wiki sites face is that people believe that adding content is what makes a wiki better or they feel that they must have a part in the wiki and have to add something. This is most commonly done in the trivia section and the problems are especially prevalent on this wiki. The glut of the trivia on many pages do not have any real significance, are just relisted facts from the article, changes that belong in the history or in some cases things that aren't even true. The Minecraft wiki is looking less professional in recent days and more like something done by a 16 year old because... well, the majority of people who play Minecraft are around this age and have much more time than the people who aren't. If I could have a few people to help me out with this (especially if they are site staff) it could be a good step to clean up the site. --Moxxy 18:50, 6 February 2012 (UTC)

I completely agree. Some of the trivia is interesting, but some of it is fairly useless. Much of it seems to just be a page filler to make each page seem more extensive. A good example of this is a piece of trivia on the Ender Dragon's egg page that says, "When hit with flint and steel (left click) it might break with one hit or teleport and appear in a new position, but still broken." I don't quite see the point in this. Moxxy, what do suggest we do? --Choolio123 19:29, 8 February 2012 (UTC)

Logo Change?

I've seen the Minecraft Wiki logo for bout 5 months, and always wondered, "How does this really relate to Minecraft?" Should there be a change to the Minecraft logo? Something more Minecrafty? --Jpmrocks 22:25, 13 February 2012 (UTC)

I've honestly thought this too. I mean it's kind of cool, but it really has no relation to Minecraft. I would like to possibly see either the grass block, a pig face, or creeper face. What do you think? Choolio123 14:36, 14 February 2012 (UTC)
The grass block is already the Minecraft logo. How about another block, e.g. Bookshelf? —Fenhl 17:19, 26 March 2012 (UTC)

Well, the logo could be a Crafting Table with an iron pick and hatchet crossed, and the words "Minecraft Wiki" on a banner above it. And possibly we can change the background to be more lively? Not just a blank canvas. --Jpmrocks 02:33, 20 February 2012 (UTC)

I like and agree with both of your ideas, but would a background image slow down the site by any signifigant amount? And what type of image would it be? I was thinking of something similar to the way the achievements page looks with the descending grass, dirt, stone, various ores such as iron, gold, redstone, lapis lazuli and diamond ores. Maybe we could also include a Zombie or Spider spawner? What do you think? Choolio123 14:21, 21 February 2012 (UTC)

I was thinking similar to the achievements background, but around 3/4 down the page, have a layer of bedrock, then have a little Nether thingy going on, with fortresses and everything. Possibly at the top f the page, maybe around 1/16 of the page from the top will be End themed. It shouldn't slow down the site, maybe a little at first due to the website adjusting. --Jpmrocks 14:25, 29 February 2012 (UTC)

I though about it and I came up with a bit of an idea, based on the ThinkGeek website. Imagine Minecraft-y stuff on both sides, but when you get to the bottom of the page it transitions into an End-esque background. Just an idea. I'll try and make a bit of a design idea 153.107.33.155 03:47, 5 March 2012 (UTC)

I've been wondering about this thing for a long time (a year by now), and I have asked the admins a while ago. They say that it's a limitation of the servers at Curse that only allows the front page to be boring (or at least it has something to do with limitations at Curse, I don't exactly remember). But as I agree that this is an issue, I recommend that someone writes on the "admin noitceboard", to let the admins know. FracqGrenade | talk contribs 17:54, 5 March 2012 (UTC)

Perhapes we could do a crafting table with a diamond sword and diamod pickaxe crossed behind it. Thje words Minecraft on top, and wiki on the bottem? And , I think, In the far distance Monsters chasing a player. ~simcity18

Bug tracker

The page linked to using the name "bug tracker" is not really about bugs but more about support and venting new popular ideas. The wiki page is more relevant but still not a tracker why I suggest naming it "bugs" only.

  1. Remove "Bug tracker"
  2. Add "Support" linking to getsatisfaction
  3. Add "Bugs" linking to the wiki page

--Nuxas 12:07, 17 February 2012 (UTC)

I believe it is Mojang's wish that bugs be reported on Get Satisfaction. While Jeb does respond on the Known Bugs page, I don't believe we want to promote that over Mojang's wishes. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 12:15, 17 February 2012 (UTC)
What do you make that assumption about Mojang's wishes on?

Mojang has no official presence on getstifaction and since Jeb is the lead developer I would conclude that the wiki is the place to go for bugs. --Nuxas 12:40, 17 February 2012 (UTC)

Mojang officially said on [[1]] to use the latest bugs section on this wiki. Bawki 21:59, 15 March 2012 (UTC)

What's new

I was wondering if we could have a page with all blocks/mobs/items/worlds that notch is considering adding would be on so we don't have to go through about 20 pages to make sure there aren't any new things we should care about, the snapshot pages do have things that are going to be in an update, yes, but I mean things that he's just asking about to see if there's any interest, I think it would be really usefull.--Ash0011 00:16, 29 February 2012 (UTC)

I suggest taking a look at Upcoming features and then think about what more you want than that. Also, Minecraft Wiki is not for writing suggestions to Mojang. —kpreid 00:22, 29 February 2012 (UTC)

Add Bukkit News to Headline

I think you should add the fact that the Bukkit team has teamed up with Mojang to the News section. Just a small section, just thought you should know. --Benny95346 00:50, 29 February 2012 (UTC)

1.2 is out

Plese update main page to reflect the release about 3 mins ago of 1.2

Is it 1.2 or 1.2.1 or 1.2.2? I've heard conflicting stories. --96.41.123.243 15:36, 1 March 2012 (UTC)
 Done (1.2.2) -- Oliver Scholz Wiki Admin 15:38, 1 March 2012 (UTC)
1.2.3 is already released, while you on the homepage state that 1.2.2 is the latest version.
1.2.5 is now the latest version Epicrcf

Update upcoming features

Online sync hasn't been talked about for ages, last time it was mentioned was by Notch when achievements and stats originally came out, but then forgotten

New game modes haven't been talked about either

Turn that stupid thing off.

overt-ops.com/uploads/nice.png - Does that side panel need to be on every single page? Really? It overlaps the actual content about 80% of the time. I don't know what resolution the webmaster(s) are on, but on 1366x768 (pretty standard) it makes parts of the site unusable. And furthermore, it's impossible to post a link to the image. I have to hit preview before I can save, then I hit save, and there's a math problem to prove I'm human, but then the "Save" button is disabled again. Preview, Save, math, Preview Save math, previewsavemath -- WTF? So since I can't put on the http:// part, you gots to copy/paste it. --67.190.183.219 20:25, 4 March 2012 (UTC)

Yup most wiki users are pretty annoyed at this badly designed/located box. I've actually edited my css to block that horrific thing. Curse is the one who owns this site, and they require it to be on here, so there's a problem with removing it permanently or changing it. There's been discussions about this problem, but the admins and Curse still haven't found a solution. But still, this has been going on for some time, and if I were you, Curse/admins, I would at least try fixing it. It's a pain in the ass. - Asterick6 04:45, 8 March 2012 (UTC)

wiki back ground

I love the new wiki back ground. Who came up with that? --007a83 (Talk|Contribs) 20:03, 28 April 2012 (UTC)

You can thank Ultradude25. It was his idea, and he did all the work to debug it. -- Wynthyst User Wynthyst sig icon talk 20:35, 28 April 2012 (UTC)
Yea, it's great. The only issue (very minor) I see is that the "Minecraft Wiki" part of the logo cannot be seen very well with the background. Maybe it should be white? Just a suggestion. Anyway, besides that, it looks amazing. ISQ Talk 22:41, 28 April 2012 (UTC)
The text in the logo has already been made white. Delete the cache of your browser and reload the Minecraft Wiki, then it should be there. I agree with the others, the new background is awesome. smwforever45 23:27, 28 April 2012 (UTC)
Oh, thanks for telling me. I should have done that before commenting. It looks a lot better now lol. ISQ Talk 01:53, 29 April 2012 (UTC)

New Skin

I love it.

I've seen this new format elsewhere and I'm not a fan; while I don't share the loathing of it that some express, I suggest having an option to switch between old and new formatting for those who, like me, prefer the familiar old format to the, in my/our opinion, ugly new one. --98.253.220.185 16:38, 29 April 2012 (UTC)
