youtu.be

Can anyone explain why it's possible to cite articles with a youtube.com/watch URL, but not shortened youtu.be URLs? As far as I'm aware, the youtu.be URL shortener only ever links to the full youtube URL, and the video ID is in both links, so I wouldn't consider it deceptive or hiding anything. NickNackGus (talk) 14:50, 2 September 2017 (UTC)

MCW:Admin noticeboard#youtu.be banned. Shorteners are blocked because, according to Orthotope, “the hide the true destination of links”. Also, there’s no significant reason to use shorteners, because saving a few characters doesn’t help much.
You have wrote the message in the wrong place. It would be preferable to go to the Admin Noticeboard instead. — BabylonAS (talk | ru.Wiki Admin) (fka NickTheRed37) 15:11, 2 September 2017 (UTC)

3DS edition

What about 3DS edition, just released on 3DS? We've gotta add it to events and versions.

Agreed- just came here to say this. It, like Education Edition, is a separate edition currently. It is a fork based off of Bedrock 0.15.1 but the gameplay is very fundamentally different. --HelenAngel (talk) 21:47, 14 September 2017 (UTC)
Feel free to add it here; I've made a new section for Bedrock Edition, and no admins are adding it to the main page yet. – Dentedharp90041tce 23:45, 14 September 2017 (UTC)

Apple TV should be listed under Bedrock, not Pocket + other little changes that should be made

See Helen's comments at https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Minecraft_Wiki_talk:Projects/Renaming#Project.27s_next_step She said "Also, for everything but Xbox (& Switch later), there wasn't a relaunch- the edition names just got dropped."

Currently, the main page has this line of text in the "About Minecraft" section:

"On September 20, 2017, the first version of Minecraft: Bedrock Edition, also known as the Better Together Update, was released for Android, iOS, FireOS, Windows 10, Samsung Gear VR, Fire TV, and Xbox One."

This is inaccurate, as per Helen's statement earlier. "Bedrock" is a retroactively-applied term just like Legacy Console. The main page also lists Apple TV as being a Pocket Edition platform, which makes no sense... even if pre-1.2 wasn't considered Bedrock (and it IS considered Bedrock), then Apple TV should have been listed under "Apple TV Edition". "Pocket Edition" was the name of the versions of Bedrock for mobile platforms like Android, iOS, & Windows 10 Mobile. Pocket Edition was never the name of the shared codebase used by all the Bedrock releases, so using it as the name of the Bedrock codebase pre-1.2 doesn't make sense. Apple TV should be listed as a Bedrock platform.

Additionally, Windows 10 Mobile should be listed as a Bedrock platform separate from Windows 10. They're technically separate store entries that can be updated independently of each other, and they're separate purchases anyway, just like the relation between Bedrock on Windows 10 & Bedrock on Xbox One. In order to differentiate Windows 10 from Windows 10 Mobile, I suggest that the Windows 10 Mobile icon be the Windows 10 icon with the word "Mobile" in Segoe font placed under the Windows icon.

Also, there are several places in the "About Minecraft" section that should probably be tweaked to be more clear about Pocket Edition being the first edition to use the Bedrock engine/codebase, and how it was "Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition" that was released on the Xbox 360, not "Minecraft" with no subtitle, as well as other little things like that. SuperGeniusZeb (talk) 00:47, 4 October 2017 (UTC)

Feel free to make the changes on the edit copy and I'll be happy to copy them across. With regards to your comments about Bedrock Edition being a retroactive title, do you recommend we merge Bedrock Edition version history and Pocket Edition version history together, merge Bedrock Edition version history/Development versions and Pocket Edition version history/Development versions together and move all version pages with Pocket Edition in their title to Bedrock Edition? I just finished making a bunch of changes to the edit copy. I think the version history pages should definitely be merged. And yeah, I think all "Pocket Edition X.X.X" pages should become "Bedrock Edition X.X.X", and all "X.X.X" pages should become "Java Edition X.X.X". SuperGeniusZeb (talk) 04:35, 4 October 2017 (UTC)
The changelogs don't get revised; they still say "MCPE/Win10/Gear VR" before 1.2. So should we leave the redirect pages behind? --– Auldrick (talk · contribs) 18:40, 4 October 2017 (UTC)

Halloween theme

The Minecraft wiki Brazil is already on Halloween theme

Halloween theme: Halloween theme --Eduaddad (talk) 01:02, 5 October 2017 (UTC)

Did someone vandalize the front page or did 3DS really switch over to Java Edition 1.12.2?

I'm sure it's just a brainfart since the general public doesn't get to make changes to that page.

It's because the Template: Version does not include the 3ds edition. The admins are working on it. Look here https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Minecraft_Wiki:Admin_noticeboard#Add_the_New_Nintendo_3DS_Edition_.28Pls_use_the_source_code_to_see.29 Skylord wars (talk) 08:30, 4 November 2017 (UTC)

Is the wiki no longer updated?

I check the main page everyday, and it looks like it's no longer updated (last updates, the versions numbers, and the new3ds number which is 0.1.0). Check the french wiki, our main page is up-to-date. • Yanis48 (talk) 10:15, 6 November 2017 (UTC)

Italics in Names

Under "Play it!" Java Edition and New Nintendo 3DS Edition are italicized; however, Bedrock Edition and Legacy Console Edition are not. Is there a reason for this?Slscool (talk) 01:53, 31 January 2018 (UTC)

Both Java edition and New Nintendo 3DS Edition are official names. If you play them, it will have the subtitle. But Bedrock Edition and Legacy Console Edition are not official names. The bedrock edition's actual name is Minecraft while legacy console edition uses their platform name (Minecraft: Xbox One Edition). Skylord wars (talk) 06:26, 31 January 2018 (UTC)

Move this page from "Minecraft Wiki" to "Main Page"

Hello. I think this page could be renamed from Minecraft Wiki to Main Page, and Wikipedia, MediaWiki, and other wikis their have the main page title "Main Page" instead of "Wikipedia", "MediaWiki", and so. Please can an user move this page from "Minecraft Wiki" to "Main Page"? --Philip57sundfors (talk) 09:35, 27 March 2018 (UTC)

I  Oppose. This wiki specifically is about the Minecraft subject, so it makes a lot of sense to call the main page by that name. In all sense of the word, Minecraft Wiki is the main page, but has a specific name. Just like an apple is a fruit, but is named an apple. Huge wikis like wikipedia don't name their main page because it would be confusing to have the wiki word double up like in "Mediawiki Wiki" or "Wikipedia Wiki", but it is also not relevant there because those wikis don't specify a specific subject contained in the wiki, other than the media itself in the case of Mediawiki. – Jack McKalling [ 16px 16px 16px ] 09:49, 27 March 2018 (UTC)
Oppose per reason given by Jack McKalling. Also, the Minecraft Wiki ≠ Wikipedia nor MediaWiki, meaning we don't need to follow what they did for their main page. Furthermore, the main page has been Minecraft Wiki for as far as I remember, renaming it now just wouldn't make sense in any way possible in my opinion. —DarkShadowTNT (t ♦ c) 12:02, 27 March 2018 (UTC)
Oppose MediaWiki's main page is called MediaWiki, try the link you posted yourself. The only reason Wikipedia has its main page named differently is because Wikipedia is an article on Wikipedia as Wikipedia itself is notable. There is also no benefit to moving the page as Main Page is already a redirect. KnightMiner t/c 15:16, 27 March 2018 (UTC)
FYI: Russian wiki’s main page is at Заглавная страница, with Minecraft Wiki as a redirect (though it originally redirected to Minecraft Wiki:Описание, the About page — also a variant!). So far I have heard no proposals to change the Russian page’s name. — BabylonAS (talk | ru.Wiki Admin) 13:36, 29 March 2018 (UTC)
In addition to what everyone else here has said, using a specific name for the main page instead of the generic "Main Page" is slightly better for SEO; Wikia does this for all of its wikis, for example. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 23:24, 20 April 2018 (UTC)

iOS Version

When will the version showing on the Main Page for Minecraft on the iOS be updated to 1.2.15? It's been outdated since the 12th of April. –Whatausername64 (talk) 03:53, 20 April 2018 (UTC)

Whatausername64, "Bedrock Edition 1.2.15" wouldn't be typed out on this page - instead, it uses a template called {{Version}}, which uses Module:Version/Numbers. Therefore, that module is what determines what version appears, and unfortunately only directors (that is, administrators of bureaucrats on any of the language edition Minecraft Wikis) can edit it. Usually the module gets updated as soon as a new snapshot comes out, but this time it hasn't been updated for over a week. If an admin sees this and adds it, it should work - otherwise, I'll bring this up on Module talk:Version/Numbers, and if it's still not added a while after that, contact an admin directly. Thanks for bringing this up.-- Madminecrafter1220pxTalk to me20px 12:50, 20 April 2018 (UTC)
Now 1.2.16 has come out, and Dinoguy1000 has updated Module:Version/Numbers to that. So the main page should be updated for iOS now (if it's not, try purging it).-- Madminecrafter1220pxTalk to me20px 13:06, 20 April 2018 (UTC)
Also the same can be done for the Development version for the Bedrock Edition? Currently it's BE 1.2.20 Build 1 --Whatausername64 (talk) 17:55, 20 April 2018 (UTC)
Yeah, that needs to be updated too. The development versions also use Module:Version/Numbers, which is currently on 1.2.14 build 2. (pinging Dinoguy1000)-- Madminecrafter1220pxTalk to me20px 19:54, 20 April 2018 (UTC)
Updated. There's a lot of version tracks to be aware of, so sometimes one of them can slip by unnoticed by admins; when that happens, don't be afraid to ping an admin to get things updated. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 23:22, 20 April 2018 (UTC)

Minecraft China

At the section of "About Minecraft", we should add a paragraph about Minecraft in China. Minecraft has its own China version of Minecraft on Xbox One, PS4, Java, Android, and iOS. Win 10 does not include a China one.--skylord_wars (talk) 02:27, 25 May 2018 (UTC)

Unnecessary margin before right parenthesis/bracket

There is an unnecessary left margin before the right parenthesis/bracket in the class "hlist". It can be seen in the purchase links under the "Play it!" section. It can also be seen in {{Minecraft}}. Tested in Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and IE (desktop and mobile); it appears.

It is due to the margin-left: 0.313em style in MediaWiki:Gadget-site-styles.css, under #bodyContent .hlist li > ul li:last-child::after. – ITechieGamertce 02:37, 5 August 2018 (UTC)

Bedrock Edition Versions

(from Talk:Bedrock Edition#Main Page Version Box)
Could I suggest this again? I know Auldrick said no, but I have an alternative to a GIF: the way the image cycling works on entity pages and such (like Villager). Could something be rigged up where (for Auldrick's case) there's one cycling icon for the seven besides Android, iOS, and Apple TV; another icon for the first two of those; and a final icon for Apple TV? Then, once all versions are equal, there's one icon for everything except Apple TV? I can experiment if my help's needed. Scientific Guy (talk) 18:31, 12 August 2018 (UTC)

@PlNG CF: Problem's on your end (mobile optimiser?). There is no compression applied to sprites (they're edited via a script which doesn't support compression). MajrTalk

Nope, not on mobile. Also I'm back because images are now straight up failing to load for "visitors", the site works fine until until whatever ad script kicks with its sleight of hand (redirect to a page and back) to circumvent adblocking (and no, after 4 infections including 1 ransomware attack that destroyed all my files, adblocking is never coming off for me, it is as essential as antivirus these days). As soon as I'm logged in, the site works and looks as it should, possibly because of my free "pro" account. I dislike what this place has become.--PlNG CF (talk) 23:10, 26 March 2019 (UTC)
Maybe your ad blocking software is the culprit? Have you tried different ad blocking extensions, or maybe a reset to a default configuration? This issue cannot really be reported to staff if they can plausibly say "it's broken because your ad blocker is faulty". --AttemptToCallNil (report bug, view backtrace) 23:33, 26 March 2019 (UTC)
