Can anyone make an article on the several ways of editing a Minecraft map? Thanks.--Quatroking - Row! Row! Fight the power! 06:54, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

I'm going to be doing that. I hope to have a large section on map editing. Can you add it as a new catagory?
I lied. I suck at this. Someone will have to build on top of this page. --EmpiresBane

I think we need to add a list of the useful programs that you can find throughout the forums.

Oh, sorry, but .mclevel works only in Indev version! I see no way to make .mine maps!
Oh, lol. I found an old version of Omen on Rghost. It works. It works! Sorry for my stupid posts.

Some notes...

Merge this section with Development Resources.

Development Resources will summarize and link to the following:

Map Editing

  • File Formats:
    • Classic, serialized java, used in Classic single player and creative MP
    • NBT, tagged binary data, used in Indev and Infdev
  • Block Types
    • List of Creative MP blocks
    • List of Alpha blocks and data values
    • List of Alpha items
  • Entity info

Multiplayer

  • Guide to server development
    • Protocol(s)

Create a new section, a la "Minecraft 3rd Party Software". This one should have screenies from each prog if applicable.

  • Creative(+S?) server programs
  • Map/world/inventory editors
  • Map generators, block replacers, world managers, terrain mappers, etc...
