Please stop putting "bug fixes" in the "additions summary"

A bug fix is not an addition, it's not even a change to the gameplay. The "additions summary" table is not supposed to justify the time they spent developing minecraft every week or anything, it's a change list and for god's sake make it be so by removing the annoying "a few bug fixes" mentions. 79.97.62.216 20:57, 4 July 2012 (UTC)

  • Bug fixes are supposed to be there, where else are we going to find them? I think we would all rather know what bugs are fixed with each update. BaroqueWolf 16:40, 9 July 2012 (UTC)

Can clear entire hotbar with one click in Creative (new in 12w23a/b)

This doesn't seem to be in the list of 12w23b changes yet. When you shiftclick on the Red Cross in the creative entire, it clears your inventory and hotbar. --18:45, 11 June 2012 (UTC)18:45, 11 June 2012 (UTC)~

Well it hasn't been updated in awhile so it might update soon. MaryTheTiger 23:12, 13 June 2012 (UTC)

Buckets

Buckets don't seem to work well with lava, right clicking lava with an empty bucket removes the source but the bucket stays empty. 86.81.124.236 14:40, 10 June 2012 (UTC)

In Creative mode, this is intentional; it makes it easier to remove many lava/water source blocks, and you have an infinite supply of lava and water buckets anyway. -- Orthotope 19:47, 10 June 2012 (UTC)

Side of cow's head flashes completely white when hitting them in 12w23b

Can someone confirm this? Looks weird --Nebetsu 00:35, 11 June 2012 (UTC)

Skin gets reset after fighting Enderdragon in 12w23b

http://imgur.com/a/WZ5JR for proof, I guess --Nebetsu 00:36, 11 June 2012 (UTC)

Silk Touch doesn't work on Mushroom blocks like it used to.

Don't get the ones with "sides" anymore. Just the standard mushroom block. D: --Nebetsu 05:08, 11 June 2012 (UTC)

Experience has never been "exponential"

I don't know if this is an error on Mojang's part or some wiki editor, but experience has never been "exponential" either "slightly" or otherwise. In the pre-12w22a system the differential xp was linear and the cumulative xp was consequently quadratic. I have no hard stats to go by for 12w22a, but it sounds like the differential xp was constant (17 xp) and the cumulative xp was consequently linear. In the post-12w23a system the differential xp is constant for the first 16 levels, then it becomes roughly linear (it actually fluctuates a bit). This makes the cumulative xp roughly quadratic (the slight fluctuations prevent it from being perfectly fit by a polynomial).

None of these systems are exponential. They are nowhere NEAR exponential. An exponential case would be where you have to multiply the past level's xp by some fixed number to find the next levels xp (either differential or cumulative, the derivative of an exponential is an exponential). An example would be where that number is 2 and the amount of xp required to level up doubles every time. This number could be less than 2, or even less than 1, but the bottom line is that the required xp grows *very* fast in the limit of large levels.

Constant is "order 0", linear is "order 1", quadratic is "order 2", and so on. Exponential technically has infinite order. Granted there are slow growing functions, oscillating functions, and so on that have infinite order, but exponentials are generally considered one of the fastest growing functions (from the perspective of limiting behavior). So, I think its worth noting that the minecraft case is quadratic, not exponential, since quadratic is very slow-growing in comparison when it comes to limiting behavior.

Dove 23:01, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

You do realize that a quadratic function is an exponential function, right? Bluemilkman 23:51, 21 June 2012 (UTC)
Nope. x2 is quadratic (or, more generally, polynomial), 2x is exponential; they are very different terms. -- Orthotope 07:27, 22 June 2012 (UTC)

The /tp command in snapshot 12w24a new features

The New snapshot features it says that there is a new /tp command that allows teleporting between players.[1] As far as I know, that command has always existed, and it shouldn't be displayed as a new feature. Am I just being crazy? Because I am sure it is NOT new, I use it on my vanilla server... Angelin01 23:28, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

It's been in SMP before but now they added it to the new SP-LAN mode. - Erik –Preceding unsigned comment was added by 174.96.152.234 (Talk) 08:59, 15 June 2012. Please sign your posts with ~~~~
Well, the text being fixed so that the information was correct was the concern. I'm sure this has been solved. Angelin01 19:05, 15 June 2012 (UTC)

Lag in 12w25a

Anyone notice a bit of lag in the newest snapshot (12w25a)? Spiders were glitching and hitting me and iron doors would only open for a split second. I downgraded back to the previous one and it was gone. Bluemilkman 19:40, 21 June 2012 (UTC)

It seems like it has to do with the new method of garbage collection meant to lower overall memory usage. It was messing with almost everything that has a timed nature. Redstone circuits, doors, leaf block decay, mob attacks/movement. Current solution seems to be to move back down to 12w24a --Sinthrill 23:18, 21 June 2012 (UTC)

Arrows fired out a bow in creative...

In previous versions when you were in creative mode with no arrows and fired a bow, the arrows would fire, but you couldn't collect them after. Now with 12w25a you can "collect" them, though they just get removed from the world and they don't go into your inventory. --76.4.89.161 22:34, 21 June 2012 (UTC)

Possible bug or intended “cleanup” feature? MaryTheTiger 22:38, 21 June 2012 (UTC)
Given that there was previously no way to remove the arrows, I'd vote for "cleanup". Not even going into survival would pick them up. You'd need to wait for them to despawn, which can cause issues depending on where/what they hit (seeing as they activate wooden pressure plates and tripwires). --76.4.89.161 23:42, 21 June 2012 (UTC)

12w25a cannot confirm bugs

I cannot confirm these bugs:

  • You can only select Adventure Mode game in LAN mode.
  • Mobs and entities are frozen causing the game mostly unplayable.

LB 23:57, 21 June 2012 (UTC)

Its not that the mobs freeze, it's that they lag for a brief moment, making combat a difficult endeavor even for people with full diamond, etc. With the debug screen up you will notice that mobs and, for the most part, anything you do will lag for a second when the current memory usage drops. Recent Snapshot Prevents "The End" Expansion

I think this was changed in 12w25a, not quite sure if this is a bug or an intentional limit.

Explanation: In the end, no "new" chunks can be created, preventing builds from expanding beyond the original width and height of The End.

Some forum posts show users complaining about how much harder it will be to create an efficient Endermen farm if they can't build outwards from the original "island". Instead, players would need to flood the island first.

Mainly what I'd like to figure out is first, is this a bug or a bug-fix/intentional change? After that, It should be added to the changelog if appropriate. 98.202.68.30 22:34, 24 June 2012 (UTC) Cavemaneca

Skeletons can shoot through stairs

I have windows in my skeleton spawner room made from four stair blocks all placed at 90° to each other to make a window that is one block square made up of the four stair block gaps. I just tried out the new snapshot (the first time I have tried a snapshot) and the skeletons in the spawner room can now shoot me as I walk past the windows! I haven't tried my map on the old server so I don't know if this is because of the server heritage of the new code. Skeletons are also pushing each other through walls which I have seen in server mode so it may be so. PhilHibbs 21:14, 25 June 2012 (UTC)

This isn't a bug, stair blocks now have a hitbox the correct shape, and the gap is no longer being blocked by vision or projectiles. 98.202.68.30 15:57, 4 July 2012 (UTC)Cavemaneca

Error with bug fixes and bug lists

I can not expand bug report sections or bug fixes. To view them, I have to press F12 to view the page source. I am running windows 8 with media center, 64 bit, build 8400. I am using internet explorer ten prerelease Version 10.0.8400.0 (Pre-release (KB2702844))

Please sign your comments with ~~~~. In my case, I cannot expand them until the page is completely done loading, which usually takes a few seconds because of the ads that make this site free. I am using Google Chrome 20.0.1137.47 m. LB 20:29, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
Sorry about the signature, but the problem still occurs after waiting over a minute, even though all the adds are loaded and I have a network at about 6.5 MB/S. Pokechu22 03:54, 7 July 2012 (UTC)
The page load times are quite long for me and my download speed is 17MB/sec. I think javascript loads last and that is what controls/shows the Expand/Collapse links. Are you sure the page is completely done loading? LB 06:06, 8 July 2012 (UTC)
The problem seems to have gone, but I do know that when it was ocuring, it happened even once the page was fully loaded( the adds all were there, and I could see the script in the f12 console, bit it would load those tags that show it. I also am having a problem where bullet points do not show up, I think that it is the browser. Pokechu22 01:15, 14 July 2012 (UTC)

I can't download 12w27a

I do it right! but then it just says done loading... 98.206.57.30 21:55, 7 July 2012 (UTC)

Can you list the steps you are taking to "do it right"? Try taking these steps:
  • Force an update to Minecraft to make sure you have Vanilla 1.2.5
  • Close Minecraft completely
  • Download minecraft.jar and replace the one in %AppData%/.minecraft/bin/ with it
  • Run Minecraft
I hope this helps. LB 06:05, 8 July 2012 (UTC)

Endermen don't spawn

I created an Endermen farm in 1.2.5 that is 150 blocks away from the giant island in the end which is optimal distance away for them to spawn in 1.2.5 perfectly. Although in the latest snapshot (12w27a) they don't spawn at all. There are no torches and they just don't work.

You have to be 32 blocks away from where you want mobs to spawn. (You also have to figure diagonal block distance as well, since air counts as a block.) Iyeru 00:02, 9 July 2012 (UTC)

EDIT: I am 150 blocks away from the closest spawning area as well the spawning area for the endermen is 42 blocks up as they will drop down for an XP drop farm. I do not know how to 'reply' so, if anyone can tell me. That'd be awesome! Xearta 00:46, 9 July 2012 (UTC)

The latest weekly might not have them spawning elsewhere due to a new structure outside of the end area. (And no generating chunks.)

Sand Caslte

No idea what this thing is, I saw two sand blocks were added to the snapshop 12w22a (I am randomly testing it) and I found this structure. I tried searching online for what it was but found nothing. Sorry if it's already been spoken about but I found nothing. Here are a few images.
