Picture

The current picture is too dark and too small. Perhaps a new one? 173.188.137.206 02:24, 16 December 2012 (UTC)

A note on the naming of this page and the terminology across the wiki

I originally wanted to title this page “Resource”, on the grounds that on this wiki “Items” refers to non-blocks specifically, and the linked video. However, more evidence (e.g. the Entity ID) says that they are called items by Mojang. This leads to the problem that an item-entity may be a block, i.e. not an item.

This would seem to indicate that we are incorrect to call non-block inventory objects “items” elsewhere on the wiki. But,

  • there is no in-game text making this distinction, so we don't have an official name to use instead, and there is no obvious word to apply
  • and, of course, it would be a massive change.

However, if we were to find out that such a name exists, I feel that we should make the change, so as to have a clear and consistent vocabulary. We can see that there is a problem from the circumlocutions and assorted words used to refer to the subject of this article: "Item (entity)", "dropped item", "dropped blocks/items", "drops", "resources", etc.

What do you mean the game never calls them items? Take a look at the stats screen... –ultradude25 (T|C) at 17:48, 18 February 2012 (UTC)

Despawn time change

As of at least 1.5, item despawns seem to have been decreased to 1 min. Can someone else please verify and add this to the article, please? 65.33.107.187 23:52, 28 March 2013 (UTC)

It looks like this only applies in creative mode, and when items are dropped out of an inventory window; in survival mode or if using the drop/throw control, they still have a 5-minute timer. -- Orthotope 00:38, 29 March 2013 (UTC)
