IMPORTANT

I want to keep this page tidy and clean. Thus, I took the liberty to move any nonsense comments about herobrine existing to Talk:Herobrine/removed|Removed comments. Herobrine's existence IS NOT open for discussion, he does not exist. Period. Please respect the facts and stop posting fake sightings. --| TheKax | Talk 16:16, 13 July 2011 (UTC)

I've just removed them altogether. that is spam, ans should never have been left there. --Kizzycocoa 16:44, 13 July 2011 (UTC)
Ah, thanks, that's good. I didn't just want to remove them completely, I didn't want to be too harsh for being just a normal member. The admin hath spoken! :P --| TheKax | Talk 16:46, 13 July 2011 (UTC)

Herobrine started as a rumor, there was a white-eyed version of Steve (the Minecraft standard skin) walking around on the edge of the fog, staring at the player, and then walking away.

It was never known if Notch actually implemented this feature.

However, with update 1.6.6 on May 31st 2011 the changelog mentioned removing the illusive feature altogether.

  • facepalm* can't people get a joke? there is no such thing as Herobrine! notch said that he removed him as a joke!!! and sig you'r posts pls... --Yurisho 15:57, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

In most wikis, anything that is "notable" gets a page. Why not add this page, with a clear header indicating it is a joke, and with factual information such as:

Herobrine was the subject of a persistent urban legend centered around Minecraft. The persistent stories held that Minecraft hid a human NPC by the name Herobrine. The NPC was alleged to build its own mines and homes, and to haunt, taunt, or observe the player in SSP. Although Notch frequently stated Herobrine was a false rumor, he often played along, fanning the flames with tongue-in-cheek twitter posts. In version 1.6.6, he attempted once again to lay the rumor to rest in a tongue-in-cheek manner, by officially declaring that Herobrine had been removed from the game. It is currently unknown whether Herobrine was always a joke, or whether such an ultra-rare NPC did, at one time, exist in the game.

I'm not trying to jump into a delete war here, but Notch is obviously in on the joke, and the topic definitely has notability. And, Herobrine has of course now made it into the changelog, lending further weight to a purpose for this page. TheNthDoctor 17:08, 1 June 2011 (UTC)

I agree, herobrine is a good part of the game because of it being a sort of minecraft mystery and deserves a page,i mean no matter what people will still hear about it, and by deleting wiki pages and forum posts your just making the myth seem even more true because of the bit about posts being deleted on the forum.--Higbey 18:14, 10 June 2011 (UTC)

FYI, I am still in full favour of this page (that's not a thing that stopped happening), despite being demoted twice for it. and I really hope you guys can come up with a way to make the page eligable, which I believe means showing admins, specifically quatro, that the page is noteworthy and needed.
(like the fact many do not know who he is until they see it, and the fact that we have a page for lanterns which were only mentioned, as herobrine once was. in fact, it's the same situation, if you think about it. only it has more history. and the fact the polish wiki has one but has a disclaimer etc. etc. etc.) --Kizzycocoa 18:51, 10 June 2011 (UTC)

I looked into the Herobrine story again and noticed a few things:

    1) The screenshot contains a chicken. Chickens weren't added to multiplayer until
v1.0.17. But the player was on v1.0.16_02.
    2) The version v1.0.16_02 never existed. The version history goes from v1.0.16_01 to
      v1.0.17.

Could someone please clarify for me. --Halo Guru 05:17, 7 July 2011 (UTC)

It is possible that it was a test version. Also, it is stated that he was in SP, not MP. --SN777 Divinus 22:05, 09 July 2011 (MT)

Please, add the interwiki to the Russian page - ru:Хиробрин --Teksel 13:39, 22 July 2011 (UTC)

Edit Copy

Since only admins can edit this page, can we have an edit copy just like for the main page? We could have rules for this page like these:

  • No sightings
  • No fan-sites

Drenay 22:26, 4 July 2011 (UTC)

Hmm, I'm just happy the way the page is right now. DarkBlade 02:15, 5 July 2011 (UTC)

Well, this isn't too important, but if some admin wishes, he could make the rest two mentions of notch in those chats links. Not important, but useful. --| TheKax | Talk 07:36, 5 July 2011 (UTC)

I agree with DarkBlade. I feel glad that the page exists because it has major significance amongst the minecraft community. HOWEVER, it should remain locked because it has all the information it needs. If it was unlocked or had any sort of copy, it would instantly become flooded with "sightings" about how herobrine jumped out of their computer and started spawning perfectly square pieces of sand in their room or some other ridiculous tall tale, they would crop up so often and in such numbers that it would be almost impossible to completely suppress them. It details the original picture, notch's statements on it, and that it does not exist. When I first read this article (I was not on minecraft long enough to hear of Herobrine), I was perfectly satisfied, and felt that it wasn't missing anything. As far as I've heard, Herobrine was not in the source code, and the only development of npcs that perform such lifelike tasks (let alone place and destroy blocks) are for the NPC villages in 1.8. EDIT: With the "Endermen" screenshot recently released, I think this mob may fullfill the purpose of Herobrine, as they seem to be able to place/destroy blocks, while also appearing very sinister. If there is anything even vaguely Herobrine-like in minecraft, it's this mob. Another reason to wait for 1.8! :3 Mybabypetghast 04:45, 22 July 2011 (UTC)

Tagging.

Personally I think this page should keep the "S for Skeleton" tag on it, as it's really just a joke. Timberdoodle 19:48, 11 July 2011 (UTC)

A new twitter

this twitter might be worth putting in the article somewhere.--Yurisho 08:13, 20 July 2011 (UTC)

Already known, no need to add. --| TheKax | Talk 09:55, 22 July 2011 (UTC)

"Endermen"

The "Enderman" mob seen in a screenshot released by Notch seems an awful lot like Herobrine. They are humanoid, sinister and seem to be able to place/destroy blocks. Does anyone think they should get some mention on this page? Mybabypetghast 22:33, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

No. until confirmed, they are not any relation to Herobrine. --Kizzycocoa 22:37, 26 July 2011 (UTC)
I agree with Kizzy, no mention should be added. Though, I must admit, the blank white eyes immediately reminded me of Herobrine :P | TheKax | Talk 14:52, 29 July 2011 (UTC)

Wow

so who died to finally let this be made on minepedia?  ANNOYING  11:52, 27 July 2011 (UTC)

Haha. | TheKax | Talk 14:52, 29 July 2011 (UTC)
Me partially, but Quatro had his share of hurt over this issue, what with spam. --Kizzycocoa 14:58, 29 July 2011 (UTC)
