It should be mentioned that Glass has some kind of effect(s) on mob AI. Many mob drowners that people make exploit this and wouldn't work otherwise. It seems that when a mob is submerged underwater and has a glass wall next to it, it will not constantly try to move up in the water and reach the surface like mob normally always do: instead, it just sits there... until it dies. This looks like a bug, which means it will be removed at some point (causing people to redesign their mob drowners or switch into other mob-killer mechanisms). ---Esfect

It doesn't gather faster, but you should have mentioned it break pretty fast, even by hand. --FuzzyWuff 23:34, 28 March 2010 (UTC)

Sword help break glass faster, but we don't have a sword thumbnail. PurpleKiwi 23:52, 9 October 2010 (UTC)

Breaking Glass

"When broken, glass is lost forever and you do not receive a block of glass or sand to rebuild with." It does so in Survival, however, though I know it is not intended to be found in this mode legitimately. SteveZombie 21:00, 4 April 2010 (UTC)

We could do with a better image. --Zaneo 19:59, 15 July 2010 (UTC)

What would you like it to be? How is it not good? I'm not disagreeing but I would like to know about a better picture. ~ LeopardStar

Coal/Glass ratio

Just did some burning... exactly 8 pieces of coal were used to make 64 glass.

Yes, because coal burns for 80 seconds and each smelt of any material is 10 seconds...thus, and stack of 8 coal/charcoal will smelt any stack of 64 smeltable objects. LB 00:44, 28 February 2011 (UTC)

Suffocation

Glass shares some properties of an air block, if a player is forced into a glass block by either a minecart or boat they will pass through the block and not suffocate.

OpGlass

Is it a mod? Please answer this, I am very confused. Here's a quote mentioning OpGlass:
@FalzarGregar; Ah, good point. The glass will be made of OpGlass, a special block that only Operators and up can destroy. Also, this would all be made of Adminium, and would be zoned. All in all, it would be effectively secured.

Falling Through the Glass

When i was playing on single, i got many creepers to follow me (about 8), and then i built a glass 1x1 tower 4 blocks into the air. Then i made a platform of 2x2. I went to log out for a second and everything was fine. Then, when i logged in, i fell through the glass. Does anyone know if falling through the glass was a bug? oh and then i died from multiple hissing booms. --AParkedCar 8:49, 2 February 2011 (UTC)

It has nothing to do with glass itself. Sometimes you can find yourself inside blocks when you load a world. Electrk 23:15, 8 April 2011 (UTC)

~I think I know what happened. If you are crouching/sneaking on a block, nothing right underneith it (except air or a liquid) you will fall through. I was making my farm over the Ocean and I was sneaking and I exited the game. I got back on and I was right beside a squid under my farm. ~LeopardStar

Water Currents

I was starting a new map (Beta 1.3, just came out), only a few game days in, and I decided my project of the day would be to build an underwater room with a glass ceiling. So I hollowed out a space underwater, sufficiently deep, and proceeded to place the glass when I noticed something odd. I was being dragged down. I backed up, and lo and behold, the game was treating my glass ceiling as if it were a downward water current (it even had water flowing down inside of the block, or so it seemed). I'm guessing this is a bug. Can anyone else confirm this happening, and would this belong on the Glass page or the Water page? --MadFencer 00:43, 23 February 2011 (UTC)

The glass I'm guessing is preventing you from getting out so you bump back into the water.

Old Texture

Does anyone else think that the old glass texture is fugly as hell? Electrk 23:19, 8 April 2011 (UTC)

That's why it's an old texture and got replaced... –User:Ultradude25 (User:Ultradude25/t|User:Ultradude25/c) at 23:22, 8 April 2011 (UTC)

Lava?

I've heard claims that lava can destroy glass when it makes contact with it. This doesn't happen for me. Did this change recently or was that never the case? <<Pulpo 20:07, 8 April 2011 (PDT)

That was never the case. Glass isn't flammable. Calinou - talk × contribs » 07:00, 5 May 2011 (UTC)

I've got a different issue with lava/glass, I've made a glass room with library in it and an enchantement table, then flooded the outside of the glass with lava, so inside it looks as if you are in a ball of fire. but the bookshelves disappear ! i can hear the burning sound although there is no fire and bookshelves die on by one.

Safety glass?

It mentions here that spider jockeys can shoot through glass...can regular skeletons do that too? What about creepers - can they see through glass and blow up? I guess spiders and zombies can't get through glass, and ghasts can't see through it, but is it safe from everything except the super-rare spider jockey?Wandergirl108 05:52, 5 May 2011 (UTC)

Creepers don't explode even if they see you through a glass wall. But if there is a 1x1 "window" of air and both of the creeper and you are near the window, it will start to detonate. Calinou - talk × contribs »

Okay...what about regular skeletons?Wandergirl108 19:18, 5 May 2011 (UTC)

I've never seen a skeleton shoot through glass, though there may be some weird angle where the clipping allows it, I dunno. --Warlock 19:27, 5 May 2011 (UTC)
I have a big glass wall in part of my house and I've never been shot at by skeletons or spider jockeys. I'm not certain there's any truth in that rumor; at least not in the current patch. --Theothersteve7 19:44, 5 May 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, I have a mob drowning trap with glass walls setup near a skeleton spawner. They will not shoot even if they see you through the glass. But like I said, I don't know if there is some weird angle where, if they can see you and hit the glass with their arrow, the arrow will go through. If there is though, I gotta think this is an unlikely event. --Warlock 19:48, 5 May 2011 (UTC)
Skeleton's sitting so maybe that could bypass the code. Got hit through a TWO LAYER of glass. --Rocĸetor talk 21:08, 5 May 2011 (UTC)

Water Flow 1.6.x

In the 1.6 changelist, Notch states, "Fixed water interacting strangely with glass". I believe two statements in the Trivia section of the article are now incorrect, likely due to this fix.

The article states that water flows downward more violently when placed near glass, and this used to be true. However, it appears that as of 1.6 mobs are no longer able to swim up downward-flowing water regardless of what material it is placed next to.

I had a trap which (in an overly elaborate way) relied on the mobs' tendency to always swim up. In order for this to work, I had to specifically avoid glass along the walls of this section. However, since 1.6.x, the downward current seems to be too strong for them in all cases.

Also, I have noticed that you can now create an infinite water source with water which is on top of glass.

Can anybody else confirm these observations? These observations come from an SMP server running 1.6.4; however it is also running through Bukkit, so I can not discount the possibility of the Bukkit code contributing (IMO, it seems unlikely that they would include code to modify water flow behavior).

Particle effects through glass

I've noticed that smoke from a fire will pass through a layer of glass. Since I'm new here, I didn't know if it was worth adding to the Trivia section. Since I don't have upload privileges yet, I have uploaded a screenshot to http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/2629/20110617150252.png. TuxRug 21:14, 17 June 2011 (UTC)

Probably not, I believe smoke passes through everything, even solid blocks. --Warlock 21:16, 17 June 2011 (UTC)

Redstone

Is it a glitch/bug that a redstone signal will still apply when the redstone is lead through a 1x1x1 hole, and the glass is placed on top of the redstone? The texture doesn't look like it's supposed to, but it doesn't work with any other block, so... Dreadnought5 09:04, 3 July 2011 (UTC)

Glass Bottles

Glass bottle recipe should be added(1.9 Prerelease 2? Update)

1.9.pre4 - blast resistance increased?

Looks like Ghasts can't destroy Glass Blocks anymore.--46.147.7.10 14:49, 15 October 2011 (UTC)

Glass Shadows

Light doesn't seem to pass through glass that has a block directly underneath it. Can anyone confirm this? --GmMkr 21:42, 16 October 2011 (UTC)

Glitching into glass?

On my old pre-haloween alpha world i can glitch into the glass of my watchtower. I dont know if this is a bug because its this old, because my jukebox didnt work until i broke and replaced it. --Miauw62 15:01, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

Zombies

it says on the Enderman page that as of 1.2.3, zombies can see through glass. is this true? ZeCraftyMiner 21:16, 17 May 2012 (UTC)

Glass Stuff

It be great that there is going to be glass stairs, you can see what's below you and while going up. These can be very good if you have a mine and you want to go below, oh no. Check if there are any monsters under your house. These can be also good for connecting cloud bases or even making a glass maze.

Some colored glass would be nice so when light shines through it it will emit that colored light. The crafting is simple and all you need craft it with is with some dye (1) and glass. (NOTE: This will not appear in the creative "cheat chest" (inv.). The glass stairs are also made by a stair crafting making these both easy to make. Hope you like them.
