Yeah, for some reason staring directly at enderman doesn't really stop them in bedrock. (test on mobile, version 1.21.23) Tested on plain (day, night) and in cave (naturally spawn, egg spawn and at different light level). It keep moving at my direction after aggroed with unbroken eye contact. In Java however they stayed in place (as shown here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=21zoJz9Pg-g)

I have never, ever, seen an enderman teleport when not in daylight or taking damage. Is it true that they only teleport when taking damage or in daylight? :: It's still now before the 1.9 Combat Update.  But, as of that, they - might, much of its GameMechanic s changes might themselves change further, with the Update and then time thereafter - no longer Teleport out of Water (which damages them to be in), when targeting the Player.

::To me, this suggests a more formal way to combat them, than simply Placing (emptying) a Bucket of Water, at one's (nonexistent) feet, and getting them to with time de target, after first Teleporting away, enough.  First, Place some Solid Block, one can stand on (and more specifically, Sneak walk to remain on the edge of), and then do that.

::They'd still be damaged - might get Pushed away if the Water is Flowing enough (this also works to instead Burn them completely if Placing the Lava more specifically next to the Block, if with a Bucket of Lava) - meanwhile, it helps clear the area. ==Sounds==
In Bedrock Edition, when I kill an enderman, I sometimes hear a spooky long drawn-out howl after the enderman has disappeared, slowly rising in volume and then fading away. It's about as long as the "stare" sound in the article (which I've never heard in-game) but not quite the same. This isn't described in the article. == Should we add official information about Enderman society? ==

I've been reading an interesting novel called "The End", which says "Mojang official" on the cover. The story goes into some depth about enderman society, such as:
* how they breed - a fragment splits off an enderman and grows up into a new enderman. There are males and females but the book didn't go into how they mate, if at all. Both males and females identify as "enderman".
* family relationships - children are called fragments, parents are hubunits, and living endermen so ancient that any other living endermen cannot trace lineage any further back are called cruxunits. There are other names for other relationships, like nubunits (I think) for siblings.
* group term - endermen refer to a group of themselves as "an End of endermen" rather than "a haunting".
* telepathic communication - represented by the purple sparkles surrounding endermen. While endermen have mouths for eating and can make sounds, they communicate telepathically and do not speak.
* collective versus individual intelligence - an enderman without others nearby is basically unitelligent and animalistic, driven by instinct, fears, biases and hatreds drilled into them since birth. They become intelligent when telepathically linked to other enderman in close proximity; the more endermen in a group, the more intelligent each enderman becomes. Endermen gather into a more intelligent group to prepare for invasion when they detect an end portal about to open.
* philosophy concerning Chaos versus Order - endermen worship chaos, and view humans as representing order, which is why endermen busy themselves rearranging blocks in human-made structures. The End Cities and End Ships were made by beings lost to history; even endermen don't know if these structures were uninhabited when endermen first arrived, or if endermen wiped out the original inhabitants.
* attitude toward humans - endermen regard humans with fear, which leads to hatred. They view humans as murderers, monsters who butcher endermen indiscriminately and take their hearts (ender pearls) just to use as a conveyance. They know if a human wears a pumpkin, the human looks like another enderman to an enderman, and this is viewed as a threat due to the possibility of human spies undetected in their midst. Endermen are happy to avoid humans, but if a human tries to interact in any way (even by looking, which an enderman telepathically detects), the human must be killed.

== Projectiles ==

Endermen don't simply teleport away before the projectiles hit them. If they have nowhere to teleport to, The projectile ([[Snowball]], [[Egg]] or [[Arrow]]) just bounces off. == Ender pearl drop chance incorrect? ==

The article says that there is a 50% chance to drop an ender pearl. I have not seen this in my experience. In the Bedrock game I'm playing (normal difficulty), I've gotten one ender pearl after killing six endermen so far. I've had similar experiences in other games, nowhere near 50% drop rate.

== Can I auto-kill an enderman by standing in water? ==

I had a thought that I am not sure how to test. If I stood in the middle of, say, a 5×5 or 7×7 shallow pool of water and look at an enderman to anger it, would the enderman repeatedly damage itself trying to get at me until it dies? :It is quite surprising an experienced user like you would ask a question like this without testing in game first. The answer is no, the enderman stops right at the edge of the pool, and will simply circle around the pool without entering. This might not always bevthe case though, I've had an enderman rushing into water multiple times to get me, but I suppose it might just haven't braked properly. ::::In Bedrock Edition, I created a 7x7 pit two blocks deep, filled it with 1-block-deep water, put a 1 block high pedestal in the middle for me to stand on, and placed a few enderman spawn eggs on the edge. Then I switched to survival and looked at their faces to anger them. Here's what I observed:
::::* Without trapdoors around the edge of the pit, they'll step into the water, but not as often. Mostly they hang around at the edge and look at me open-mouthed. The trapdoors make it more efficient.
::::* With trapdoors around the edge, endermen try to come at me, fall into the trapdoor, and injure themselves in the water, and teleport away, all as expected.
::::* Occasionally an enderman gets close enough to reach me and hit me. I died a couple times during this test. A 9x9 pit would have been safer.
::::* After a while, if I don't keep looking at them, they give up and go about their business. They have no distractions (no daylight cycle, flat world, no weather). An angry enderman simply stops trying to attack after a while, resuming only when I look at it again.
::::* Now and then an enderman doesn't look angry when I look directly at it (it doesn't open its mouth). It comes in my general direction but not directly at me, not looking at me, and steps into the water. Usually when this happens, the enderman is carrying something. This is odd, it's as if the enderman AI is saying "nah, been there, done that".
::::* It takes a long, long time for an enderman to die from water damage this way. Basically they have to step into the water 20 times before they die. Of about 10 endermen, I got only one ender pearl.

I've seen random breeches in cobblestone walls, which I can only guess were done by endermen. But, cobblestone isn't in the list of blocks they can pick up. Is this an oversight? :I have never, ever seen an enderman carrying a cobblestone block. Unless you actually see an enderman carrying a cobblestone block, it shouldn't be in the list. There should be a way to check this in Java Edition. The article mentions a minecraft:enderman_holdable block tag. I don't have Java Edition. Are you able to verify that cobblestone has this tag set? ::Endermen don't pickup cobblestone block. I've never seen it and I play MC for about 10 years. Such a change was also never mentioned in a change log. To confirm my suspicion I just checked the [[Tag#blocks enderman holdable|minecraft:enderman_holdable tag]]: Cobblestone doesn't have this block tag. They were about 500+ blocks away from anything at all (except for a trail of torches) and anything that I have place there has definitely been spawn proofed.
