Guardian Fatigue Effect Texture[]
Is the ghostly guardian effect a separate texture somewhere? Or does it somehow use the regular Elder Guardian model/texture? Cultist O (talk) 20:17, 19 June 2014 (UTC)
- The Fatigue effect lasts a little to long for survival and I was searching through files but I couldn't find anything for the Ghostly texture please help.66.27.123.223 04:55, 28 May 2015 (UTC)
- The "ghostly" texture is simply a transparent version of the default elder guardian, it even uses the same model. –KnightMiner t/c 16:08, 28 May 2015 (UTC)
Summon Command Doesn't Work[]
I know that you can summon the Elder by doing /summon Guardian ~ ~ ~ {Elder:1}
as I've used it before. But in 14w25b, it appears to be broken. Does anyone know whether this is a bug or if Mojang changed the way elders and guardians are distinguished? - Exhelah

On peaceful[]

- I suspect I accidentally wiped an Ocean Monument of them by using Peaceful Mode not even within range, of them.. I could swear I had just used Creative to show the structure, to someone. Then, well, after occasional Lag-related use elsewhere, I no longer found them in that one structure. I'll still search for the second, though, and confirm if it wiped them from the world. - Ok, I confirmed that these 1-time Spawners (at Generation of that structure /those chunks), are removed by Peaceful, and /or Creative (think I read somewhere here that yes, they have a similar effect on certain Hostile Mobs? - as in that they Despawn stuff specially-created, and perhaps permanently, even??). Luckily, I proved they still exist at the first O.M. I found, which I'd most-definitely used neither Peaceful nor Creative, at.
- So, the key is to not-Ever, as you say, use Peaceful (and possibly Creative) within even Beach (which may not be visible, over a higher ground, approaching it) range of an Ocean, and definitely never see the Ocean(s) again, if you don't want to affect the 1-time Spawning (at Generation, again) of the Elder Guardians. Despawning them is not-undoable within Creative, as of yet, and it might be best to Map-out somehow the edges of the Oceans, especially the Ocean Monuments, ahead of time, before switching to Peaceful, to avoid this (unsure of Creative). - I've now repeatedly used Creative to visit O M's, and the E G's were still present - rather than being wiped instantly - so I'll consider that a win (rather than returning and rechecking). Jeb Signed It[]
Funnily enough, Jeb sort of signed the Elder Guardian's texture file. Found inside the jarfile for Snapshot 14w32b. Jeb appears to have placed his name inside of the Elder Guardian texture. Not sure where I'd put the image to show it, but I thought it was cool. Summoning? where does it go???[]
I summoned an elder guardian using /summon Guardian ~ ~ ~ {Elder:1} and it says it was summoned but it disappears.. I even checked to see if i was on peaceful but i wasn't... can someone help me? BlackTomCatt (talk) 22:48, 21 September 2014 (UTC)
I used the / Command to Spawn /Summon one to the (dried out, first) Entrance chamber to the O M (I'd accidentally cleared on Peaceful). I then proceeded to kill it and 2 others to replace the lost ones, 1 at a time re creating them, and I'm not sure if it requires Air, and, in any case, any form of Egg (including a Chicken, heh), requires a surface, to Break /be placed, against (open Water shouldn't work, I'm guessing, if no Solid surface, is close enough [as for the Chicken Eggs, the Chicks /Baby Chickens might be too far away to see /generate them floating upwards if under Water, so I dunno about other, the Spawn Eggs, other than that Guardians are not - unlike Octopods - Damaged by being in Air, and can even contact Solids with no Suffocation, Damage unless cramped]). ~ Yilante 216.7.78.195 13:49, 23 October 2014 (UTC)

I notice that elder guardians are called monsters rather than bosses. Why?

Elder Guardian jumpscare?[]

No, the ghostly elder guardian isn't a glitch. When you're within a elder guardians range, you will see the Ghostly image. It will give you mining fatigue 3. Mojang did this because the ocean monument is supposed to be a maze and they do not want you breaking your way through. What is changing in 1.11?[]
The sentence "If killed by the player, it also drops a single dry sponge.[until 1.11] In 1.11,[upcoming] a player kill will drop a single wet sponge." doesn't make sense, could someone clarify this please? 50.190.60.105 21:25, 4 September 2016 (UTC)

Fish Drops[]

Reverted changes to source links[]
This edit modified the URL of two source links to Minecraft.net by removing "\en-US". The web site handles the resulting URL by inserting a default language code. I wasn't able to determine whether it's always "en-US" or varies depending on the browser-provided info. If it's always "en-US", the edit was useless because it has no effect. If it depends on the browser info, the edit would cause the link to go to a variable page, and that's a problem because the source was a definite page, namely the US English version. I can imagine that the editor responsible, whose native language is (I assume) Swedish, might like to see the source translated into Swedish, but the Swedish page (if it exists) was not the source of the quote, and we have no way to be certain that the pages for other languages contain the same material, or even exist. In short, source reference links should never be modified to make the target page variable. I am therefore reverting the edit. – Auldrick (talk · contribs) 14:31, 27 March 2018 (UTC)
REMOVE "en-us" tag in the external links to minecraft.net[]
Hello. Can I shortly remove the "en-us" tag from the minecraft.net external links so the links go to the local language instead of always english? This is done due to I does not like links go always to english page, not local language page? Philip57sundfors (talk) 07:04, 28 March 2018 (UTC)
- As I explained above, you cannot change a reference link for this purpose. You seem to think a ref link is like any other hyperlink—that it's there for you to follow for more information—but it's more than that. A ref link's purpose is to show where the information came from, to prove that it's authentic. I admit that a translated page could serve that purpose if it's an accurate translation, but we have no way to check whether every translation that your modified link might lead to is accurate, or that they will remain accurate in the future, so the only safe way to go is to link to the original page.
- Furthermore, in this particular case the ref links are attached to quotations. If you translate a quotation, it's no longer a quotation, so the reference has to be to the original language that was quoted.
- I think what you want to do would be fine for an inline hyperlink. For instance, if I give a link to more info and there was some way to make it language-adaptive, that would be fine because I'm just including it as a hyperlink, not a reference. Did Mojang change Elder Guardians in 1.13?[]
Because 1.13 is supposed to be a giant water/ocean update, shouldn't they change the ocean monuments? Bedrock Edition elder_guardian_ghost[]
In Bedrock Edition beta 1.13.0.1 a new unused entity called entity.elder_guardian_ghost.name has been added. It is only summonable via commands. Should we add it to the page? --87.202.191.219 14:00, 31 July 2019 (UTC)

Mining fatigue reapplied immediately?[]
A few versions ago on BE I remember being able to drink a milk bucket and it'd take a minute for the mining fatigue to be reapplied. Now on BE 1.14.30, the effect is always reapplied almost immediately (a diamond pick is needed to break one block fast enough). - @TakingItCasual: I suspect what's happening is that the three elder guardians in the monument are inflicting the effect at different times, not in sync with each other. So when one hits you and you drink milk, the next one hits you. I am not sure though. The test would be to kill two of the elder guardians and then see what the remaining one does.
- I'm having this experience myself now, in a survival game that I refuse to switch to creative, so I'm having to plan real carefully how I am going to defeat the monument if I am continuously under this effect. ~ Amatulic (talk) 02:49, 24 August 2020 (UTC)
Final decision on whether these are bosses[]
Random spots in the wiki claim these are bosses in Bedrock edition. Example: https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/index.php?title=Experience&diff=1564198&oldid=1562501 I have not seen any source of this besides the fact that they were added in pocket edition's so-called "boss update," and by that logic regular guardians are also bosses in bedrock edition. Since the in-game behavior of elder guardians is identical in Java and Bedrock, and assuming there isn't any other source besides that one, I would assert that elder guardians are not bosses anywhere. - tryashtar (talk) 00:38, 27 April 2020 (UTC)
Although this issue is old, I will elaborate. There are indeed sources written by Mojang and Microsoft staff affirming the boss status of the Elder Guardian. These include Mojang's blog post about the Boss Update (archived), a blog post on Xbox.com, another on the Windows blog, and Meet the Elder Guardian. - It's worth noting that declaring elder guardian a boss based on that would mean making the decision that the wiki treats being considered a boss by Mojang as the definition of a boss. I'd prefer the alternative, which would be to define being a boss based on game mechanics, and declare that Mojang is fallible as a source of information regarding their own game. - It was defined as a boss only in some old blog posts, and its behavior in Bedrock is identical as Java. The elder guardian is not treated as a boss in-game - neither in Java nor in Bedrock - so it should not be treated as a boss in the wiki (especially not with [Bedrock Edition only] tags).--Capopanzo (talk) 12:44, 19 July 2023 (UTC)
- Such a decision might have to be made. While it would be ideal for a boss to be defined by a characteristic in the game, there is no official criterion for one. Additionally, the current definition in Mob lists several requirements, which narrows it too much and makes it not a useful category. Unexpected behavior in Bedrock[]
The two elder guardians in the wings of a monument aren't hitting me with Mining Fatigue in Hard Survival mode, in Bedrock Edition.
I've been slowly taking over the ocean monument that's near the spawn point of the "Ocean Monuments Ahead" seed in the seed picker. I'm going in from the top. I built a wall around the top gazebo thing, removed the water with slime blocks (about 45) I painstakingly collected from my slime farm (which was also a painstaking task to build), made that gazebo space into a cozy home with a bed, chest, and furnace, and then I dug a hole in the floor to shoot at the elder guardian in the upper room with a bow. It was actually pretty easy to kill, rather defenseless, although it hit me once with its laser. I got its sponge and proceeded to clear out the water in the upper suite with the sponge and my slime blocks.
Before I killed that elder guardian, I was getting hit with Mining Fatigue the instant it wore off, no waiting period. This is expected and documented in this article.
However, after I killed that top-most elder guardian, I stopped getting hit with Mining Fatigue. I recall getting it a couple of times but then the other elder guardians seemed to lose interest, and I am free to mine the monument unhindered.
I re-created the world in Creative and explored the monument, confirmed that there are indeed two more elder guardians in it, one in each wing. It may be some weeks before I get that deep in my survival game.
I can't explain this. Does only the top elder guardian inflict Mining Fatigue in Bedrock? Amatulic (talk) 19:26, 12 June 2021 (UTC)
- Update: I wrote the above while playing Bedrock 1.17.0. In that version, axolotls could wear down guardians and elder guardians by continually attacking them and then playing dead to heal, eventually killing the elder guardian. The guardians and elder guardians only stung the axolotls with their spikes, and never fired upon them with their lasers.
- That explains why the two elder guardians in the wings disappeared, which I confirmed once I got down there to clear the water out. They were killed by axolotls, coincidentally shortly after I killed the elder guardian in the penthouse.
- Now in 1.17.10, this situation can no longer occur because guardians and elder guardians fire upon axolotls. An axolotl can take several hits but eventually dies. It takes several axolotls to take down an elder guardian now. Amatulic (talk) 04:10, 26 July 2021 (UTC)
