Lava[]

For whoever thinks that in 1.16 there is a death message called "[player] swam in lava", this death message only exists in UK English.--ManosSef (talk) 18:50, 24 March 2020 (UTC)

Move to Death message[]

Since this move does not affect many pages and is not controversial at all (as not many people care about death messages) should I just move it? ManosSef (talk) 06:12, 1 December 2020 (UTC)

Oppose This page is just a plain list of them.  Nixinova T  C   20:34, 15 December 2020 (UTC)
Oppose per Nixinova – the article is primarily a list and there isn't significant info (nor can there be) on what a death message is. –Sonicwave talk 20:36, 15 December 2020 (UTC)
Comment Just to clarify: it was not my idea to move the page. ManosSef (talk) 06:11, 16 December 2020 (UTC)
Oppose This page is, although just a plain list, necessary to be on the wiki. There is a lot of significant info to do with bugs, removed features etc. SileGdPro (talk) 11:58, 25 January 2021 (UTC)
Okay since most people disagree with the move, I am removing the template from the top of the page. ManosSef (talk) 09:07, 15 February 2021 (UTC)

Falling[]

I have just found a way to get the generic fell while climbing death message without the use of datapacks, and I don't know if I need confirmation to add that on the death message's description so I am asking here. If you are wondering it involves falling off any block with the climbable tag, then changing dimensions before taking fall damage. --Misterredeminator1111111 (talk) 07:35, 12 December 2020 (UTC)

I will test that when I find the time and if it happens to me as well, I will add that to the page. --ManosSef (talk) 09:27, 12 December 2020 (UTC)
Nope, doesn't work. --ManosSef (talk) 14:01, 12 December 2020 (UTC)
I've got it to work, best way to replicate it is to set a end portal and then falling, as that teleports you instantly. – Unavailablehoax (talk) 16:42, 12 December 2020 (UTC)
I know I'm late, but I actually managed to make it work. I am adding it to the page right now. --ManosSef (talk) 19:19, 30 May 2021 (UTC)

"Doomed to fall" unused?[]

i have clear memories of seeing this in LAN worlds back in the era of ~1.5 to ~1.7, can someone smarter than me verify if it's actually always been unused or simply has been removed?

Look at the history section. I have clearly written that it used to work in the 1.5-1.7 era, but stopped working in some version around there.--ManosSef (talk) 09:00, 16 July 2021 (UTC)
I was just looking into this and these death messages are definitely referenced by code, but the code looks broken and the branches that would generate these are never going to be hit the way it's written. So I am wondering if these should be moved from the 'not referenced in code' section to the one above it for correctness. - AD OffKilter (talk) 05:36, 8 July 2022 (UTC)
I'll do it right now. ManosSef (talk) 19:17, 8 July 2022 (UTC)

I think we can put the untranslated "death.attack.<blah-blah>.item's" translation here instead.[]

Like the one from death.attack.witherSkull.item, instead of "death.attack.witherSkull.item," we could say, "<player> was shot by a skull from <player/mob> using <item>". Or take death.attack.sting.item. Instead of "death.attack.sing.item," we could say, "<player> was stung to death using <item>".

No worries, just a suggestion. Or I could ask Mojang Studios to translate them into the above translated messages.

Anyone agree? The Zombified Stray that Roams with a Pink/Wither/Storm Talk to me and see what I've done 06:48, 26 April 2022 (UTC)

These are not the translations used in-game. This wiki only documents the game's content and not community suggestions. ManosSef (talk) 08:10, 26 April 2022 (UTC)

"<player> was doomed to fall" is used[]

It says that "<player> was doomed to fall" is not obtainable in vanilla Minecraft. Well, it is when you die of fall damage inside flowing lava. I'm too lazy to edit, so I'll just let y'all know. – Unsigned comment added by 88.216.48.70 (talk) at 19:41, 17 August 2022‎ (UTC). Sign comments with ~~~~

Do not use Forge and then think something works in vanilla just because it works with Forge. Try something in vanilla before coming here to spread false information. ManosSef (talk) 07:52, 18 August 2022 (UTC)
I think this could do with a less accusatory tone especially considering the OP didn't explicitly mention they were using Forge and is probably not trying to spread false information on purpose. However, it is true that this message appears on Forge but not in vanilla (last I checked which was a few versions ago). –Sonicwave talk 18:06, 18 August 2022 (UTC)
You're right. I wasn't meaning to insult anyone, and if I did, I apologize. ManosSef (talk) 18:47, 18 August 2022 (UTC)

Moving to "You Died" was not an agreed upon change[]

The move to "You Died" was not the result of a consensus and I believe it should be reverted. There are 3 reasons for that:

  • 1) This page documents death messages and not the death screen. Death messages and the death screen are two completely unrelated things, and the fact that death messages appear on the death screen is a pure coincidence, as it wasn't always like that.
  • 2) "You Died" is not the official name of the death screen. In the code, this screen is referenced as "DeathScreen". Just because "You Died!" is the text that appears at the top of the screen doesn't mean that is the screen's name.
  • 3) The death screen isn't as big of a feature in Minecraft as to deserve a dedicated page for it. All the info there is to say about it is documented on Health, and to be frank, whoever moved the page to "You Died" didn't actually include any info about the death screen, other than just a few useless lines at the top.

To whoever moved this page to "You Died", please don't make big changes to a page's name before asking in the talk page first. Thank you for coming to my TED talk. ManosSef (talk) 22:38, 11 March 2023 (UTC)

Agree to revert the page to its original title. BDJP (t|c) 01:51, 12 March 2023 (UTC)
Support. I admit that it was impulsive of me to make that move without pondering that it may not have been a good idea as I had initially believed.Drour1234 (talk) 03:38, 12 March 2023 (UTC)
