No caverns?
No caverns in v.1.0.14? And it's infdev.
- There are TONS of caverns/caves in v1.0.14 (Alpha Mode). So... what are you talking about? --Coolpilot 2:21, 31 July, 2010 (UTC)
Enemy Spawn points
Have you ever had it that you find a HUGE cave with lots of good resources and no enemies around except for one small tunnel, which just happens to send out endless amounts of enemies at you. You, being the loot hungry player, think its a dungeon up ahead, spawning mobs to kill you, and try to charge there slaugthering enemies only to find that there is nothing there except further tunnels or a dead end. I'm suggesting a theory that when the map generates, specific points inside caves are choosen for 'spawns' which create endless mobs untill you are able to see the area where it is supposed to be, forcing it to stop spawning(cause mobs cant spawn if you can see them doing so except from a mob spawner). Anyone agree with me?
- For them to spawn, it has to be dark and far enough away from the player (25 blocks, I think). I don't think there are any specific spawn points. To stop them from spawning, you just have to be close enough or light up the area.PurpleKiwi 02:01, 8 October 2010 (UTC)
- Your right, but, if so were true, then why dont the mobs spawn EVERYWHERE. I was exploring a few small caverns which were generated above ground(holes in the ground or mountain walls leading into short caves) and i didnt find 1 enemy, except for one, a really short one, which happened to spawn 4 skeletons, 2 zombies, and 2 spiders, all in rapid succession, from just one small dead end in it. please do explain how that can happen. --WallShadow 02:42, 8 October 2010 (UTC)
- I heard that if you light up all of the caves underneath an area the mobs will still try to spawn wherever they can and become more concentrated in certain places. Also, I think maybe the mobs spawn in groups. I've seen herds of creepers and zombies (especially in survivaltest), and I don't think that's just a coincidence. - Yup - most mobs spawn in groups. Zombies, for example, often spawn in groups of 2-6 (I think). Bigreader 01:10, 1 January 2011 (UTC)
Enemies
Should it be mentioned that enemies are extremely prevalent in these places? Zetal
Natural camps in generated caverns?
I was digging through a snow map I created this morning when I found a camp on green cobblestone (mossy?). It had a chest with some ingots and a bucket, and a strange box full of torch resources. I can't find much on natural camps like this, so I'm posting this here in case someone else has seen it before.
In the screenshots, I added the torches. Also I mined the fire box with my wooden pickax (though I crafted a stone one since then) and it made a glass sound and dropped nothing.

- They're called dungeons. I don't mean to sound rude, but if you did a bit more searching on wiki, for example, for mossy cobblestone, I'm sure you would've found that out. CyborgDragon 18:29, 23 October 2010
- That does sound rude. It's actually hard to find something if you don't know what it's called. PurpleKiwi 06:38, 24 October 2010 (UTC)
- Perhaps there should be a "Help! I found something strange!" link on the main page, that goes to a page with screenshots of dungeons, saddles, the void etc. If we know what people are having difficulty finding, then we should be making it a lot easier to find those pages.
- no. we aren't catering to people who don't search for stuff. you come here to find something, you search for it. you do not expect it to come to you, and nor shall it ever come to you.--Kizzycocoa 21:39, 24 October 2010 (UTC)
- The new link to Dungeons in the page is good enough. I think that Dungeons and Caverns are related enough to link to each other. :) I also wasn't sure if the cobblestone was Mossy Cobblestone or that it had a page here. --Danopia 06:07, 17 November 2010 (CST)

Picture request
I'm not sure if I'm supposed to ask or not before putting a pic into the wiki page. I have a screenshot of a pretty big cavern system and I was wondering if I could include it on the page.
This shot was taken in a private multiplayer server.
A response would be nice.

- That. Is. EPIC. If that wasn't man-made, I would say definitely add it to the page. – Unsigned comment added by Bigreader (talk • contribs). Sign comments with ~~~~
- This page really needs more pictures, so i would say, put it in the page

I just expanded the section on navigating caverns to include a couple of alternatives to the "Place torches on the right" method. Also, should there be a section on what supplies one should take with them for exploring an epic cavern? Could be helpful for those items one wouldn't always think to bring, like logs (or even saplings), water buckets, a workbench, etc.

New Caverns being created
I just came across a (small) cavern that absolutely positively hadn't been there two game-days before. I know for sure because it appeared just beside a small hut I had built recently; the location had looked unconspicious back then.
I have no idea how it might have come into existence, or become exposed if it had pre-existed. Creeper attack can be ruled out (no attack on me there, nor any trace of a blast crater). Standard dirt surface, no gravel or sand anywhere near. No quitting and re-starting involved. Single player game - just one man and his dogs. Something else besides us players is actively digging out there!

1337
When I typed in 1337 as the seed number just for the lolz, I found a GIANT caveren near the spawn point. If you don't believe me, type in 1337 as a Seed Code.BlockBarracade 02:45, 9 August 2011 (UTC)
I did '1337' was the first seed i had ever used the cavern is kind of just not really a big big cavern i had seen bigger besides looking for caverns are rather easy don't you think? --AverageDude 03:31, 14 September 2011 (UTC)

Pits or ravines
Pist seem to be like ravines.
If not, please improve the text. If it is, then replace it with a link to ravines.
