Strength potions work on swords
this needs a bit more testing but I have noticed an affect on swords while under the effects of strength potion, normal creeper took me 3 hits with iron sword, with potion it took me 2. this was with the strength II potion.
Missing potion
If you find a missing potion, where to add it best?
Beta 2.0?
What's this, there hasn't been any mention of a Beta 2.0. Do you mean Beta 1.10? Remember, version numbers are NOT decimal numbers!
Brewing wont be as it was in 1.9pre2

Brewing wont be as it was in 1.9pre2. It's a speculation based on mod (I know that this mod using code from game but that code never meant to be released to public) and should be deleted until version with actual brewing is out. — MiiNiPaaT|C 10:45, 30 September 2011 (UTC)
the fact that so many potions and the whole system is already implemented makes me think that the only thing they change will be the cauldrons. jeb tweeted that this was the problem, so probably the item is out and there will be something similar to a craftig table or something, but how potions work and the effects of the items have a high chance to stay like they are already implemented --Wally
Citation Needed?
"Currently there are over 9,000 ingredient combinations." How do we know this? If we know the list of ingredients or functional combinations then we should have a link to them, if not we need a citation. Cultist O 10:48, 30 September 2011 (UTC)
Using the TooManyItems mod, you can get well over 20,000 (yes, twenty thousand) potions in 1.9pre4, if you change TooManyItems.txt. I don't know how to cite this, but you can check it by installing Marglypf's TooManyItems mod. 97.81.127.149 00:18, 16 October 2011 (UTC)TKSuperfan, Oct. 15 2011
- I think there are 20,000 possibilities of potions, but minecraft, for now, only accepts ingredients combinations that make the ones we know...--Gil2455526 00:41, 16 October 2011 (UTC)
Potion Names and Ingred?
How are people figuring out the names of potions and the ingredients to make them? Is this speculation or is it from the code? --Throex 21:18, 2 October 2011 (UTC)
- Making them in-game, I'd imagine. 「ディノ奴千?!」? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 21:21, 2 October 2011 (UTC)
- I look at the code, way too lazy to make them all in game. --Wizjany 21:22, 2 October 2011 (UTC)
- Thats what I was getting at, was it in the code.. or did someone figure out how to modify the code to craft these potions in game? Thanks for the answer.. --Throex 21:24, 2 October 2011 (UTC)
Extensive Recipe List
I'm working on an extensive list of all the potions and their changes like a tech-tree style format HERE, because the list on this page looks quite unorganised and unorthodox. --HexZyle 04:39, 3 October 2011 (UTC) EDIT: More refined and updated version of the page: Recipe Table --HexZyle 08:52, 3 October 2011 (UTC)
The nausea potion recipe: sugar + spider eye + nether wart + water. Effect: nausea 1:30
P.s. Sorry if i post in in wrong theme.
Validity of Recipes
Any potion with the effect "Instant Harm III" will instantly kill you upon drinking it, rendering it pretty much useless. Should the recipes with this effect be removed from this page?
- 1. its in the game, so it should be listed on the wiki even if its useless
- 2. if you have a plugin/mod that removes the text from the potions (for non-alchemists) it will be realy good for RP --MG127 19:46, 8 October 2011 (UTC)
Also, I believe slimeball is not an ingredient. All the programmers who work with the cauldron and brewing code have not mentioned anything about a slimeball as an ingredient. Neither do mushrooms, and they do not appear in any valid recipes on the page. --HexZyle 04:16, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
- Current ingredients (as of 1.9pre3): Redstone Dust, Glowstone Dust, Sugar, Spider Eye, Fermented Spider Eye, Blaze Powder, Magma Cream, Ghast Tear and Nether Wart Seeds. --Wizjany 19:57, 8 October 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks. Bolded new ingredients --HexZyle 20:33, 8 October 2011 (UTC)
If one thinks about it, magma cream is a slime ball and blaze powder, so it is kind of an ingredient, albeit one that is used to make an ingredient, if that makes any sense. Hlast 13:01, 10 October 2011 (UTC)
Needs to be tabled up
The old Cauldron based recipes have been removed, the new Brewing Stand based ones have been added. We are going to need lots of tables. And it needs an equivalent of the Crafting and Smelting templates. Ecksearoh 17:54, 6 October 2011 (UTC)
- Better idea - New page - Alchemy, made in the same way as the Crafting and Smelting pages --HexZyle 05:04, 8 October 2011 (UTC)
- Nope, Notch and Jeb both refer to it as Brewing. What we need is Template:Grid/Brewing Stand and Template:Grid/Brewing Stand/doc. Similar to Template:Grid/Furnace and Template:Grid/Crafting Table But it will have to wait until Jeb releases the finalized list of potion ingredients and potions. The names of the Potion Images in the available images file will then have to be updated before they can be used in the template. --Ecksearoh 10:23, 9 October 2011 (UTC)

Use for Spider Eyes
Is there any beneficial use for Spider Eyes and Fermented Spider Eyes? As far as I can tell they just make harmful potions or add harmful effects.
- Splash Potions --HexZyle 20:50, 13 October 2011 (UTC)
Possible potions...
Do the thick, weak, and mundane potion bases really provide that few options for brewing, or has nobody bothered testing them yet? Cobalt32 02:40, 13 October 2011 (UTC)
They only make weakness potions for now. Calinou - talk × contribs » 06:09, 13 October 2011 (UTC)
Ah, so you pretty much need Nether Wart from a Fortress to make potions? Actually, that's probably not such a big deal since you need the fortress for Blaze Rods to make the brewing stand in the first place. Cobalt32 23:56, 13 October 2011 (UTC)
Ghast Tear changed in 1.9 Pre 4
Ghast Tear now makes Potion of Regeneration. Need Glistering Melon for Potion of Instant Health. --Vessel With The Pestle 15:41, 13 October 2011 (UTC)
i had also discovered this, please update so ghast tear is "Heals over time" and add glistering melon to say "instantly heals" --PhillipF 15:55, 13 October 2011 (UTC)
- This page is being worked on by a lot of people. They are doing things really neatly and properly so give them a bit of time. --HexZyle 18:13, 13 October 2011 (UTC)
You can also make a mundane base out of water + regular spider eyes. Don't really know how to add that in to the huge page o' stuff.
Alternative Methods of brewing some potions
I've noticed there's more than one way to make some of the potions on here; for example, potion of harming II can be made by adding a fermented spider eye to Poison II which IS in the list here, but adding glowstone dust to Harming I also makes Harming II which is not shown on the list. I'd add it but I can't quite figure it out. Srsguy 03:35, 14 October 2011 (UTC)
What should i do with my findings?
I found that if you brew Instant healing potion with fermented spider eye, you get an instant harming potion. And if you brew a Regeneration potion with a fermented spider eye, you get a potion of weakness. Should these things be mentioned in this article? i think they should, I just don't know where to put it exactly. It would educate people so they dont waste resources. Please advise. - DxAxxxTyriel
