Description

Should we add a description and picture for each of the biomes and maybe a heading for each? F1racer101 19:08, 29 October 2010 (CDT)

Yes, we should. Oa10712 18:17, 30 October 2010 (UTC)

Biomes

The Seecret Friday Update for 10-29-10 has added biomes and pumpkins.

The Nether

File:Minecraft-ghast-300x207.jpg

This is the Nether and one of its devilish creatures, the Ghast

The Nether doesn't fit in on the list of biomes, or on this page for that matter. It is a biome, in the real world definition of the word, but in Minecraft terms, it is a separate plane. I think it should be removed from the list. Kmach 23:52, 30 October 2010 (CDT)

I clarified this next to the bullet for The Nether, I don't know if it's enough though. --UncleRuckus 00:24, 2 November 2010 (UTC)
Technically it is a biome as it can be found, albeit extraordinarily rarely, in the normal world, evidenced by the picture I uploaded. --SuperStalin 00:01, 7 November 2010 (UTC)
I can confirm that it is found on the normal world. It also generates in SMP. -F1racer101 19:17, 6 November 2010 (CDT)
We may need an outside link, once someone can actually show that a Nether Chunk was in their save file and they actually recorded it. So far I haven't seen anything of the sort, and none of the save files I load contain it (even with the extremely low chance). If Notch has fixed the "Nether IRL" glitch, then can somebody remove the note about it being extremely rare? --Alanydor 22:15, 16 January 2011 (UTC)

Wood/Forest/Seasonal Forest

What's the difference? I'm guessing a forest is a medium amount of trees with nothing else notable, while the seasonal forest is a snowy but otherwise identical forest, and the woods might be a very thick forest, different from the rain forest because there's not tons of water? Any input is appreciated, as there's really no way yet to assign names to biomes without guessing the contents from the name. --TheToast7 21:52, 2 November 2010 (CDT)

I'd think the only differences between them is grass color? I mean, it's usually given that Woods and Forests are practically identical, but other than that, there's no basis for there being multiple biome systems. --Alanydor 22:18, 16 January 2011 (UTC)

Seasonal forest is not snowy in a real world setting but rather tropical-subtropical with a very pronounced dry season (and dry season deciduous trees). Rain forest, of course, is normally a tropical environment with a few cases of temperate rain forests scattered around the world which could account for some kind of temperate forest in minecraft, although the forests would only be forests with 100% tall trees and a closed canopy. Woods I have never found although they would make more sense if they were some kind of open woodlannd. --wgart2 13:37, 20 September 2011

Trees per chunk

I think we should clarify that more and explain (at least give a link to) what chunk is so new people won't get confused. Groshi 12:35, 4 November 2010 (UTC)

Different "types" of trees

I noticed that there are (rare) different ways the leaves can grow on a tree now. So far, I've seen:

  • Normal trees, with leaves going outward
  • Fully covered trees, with leaves going down to the ground
  • Trees shaped like mushrooms

Has anyone else seen weird trees? --PurpleKiwi 16:48, 4 November 2010 (CDT)

For sure, especially trees stretching all the way to the ground. Probably has something to do with different biomes. -F1racer101 01:50, 15 November 2010 (CST)

Pre-Emptive Splitting

Okay, guys, I know that at this point in time it is not neccessary, but seeing as Notch plans to make the biomes more distinct in the future, I think that we should split each Biome into its own page to prepare for this. We already have excellent pictures for each one courtesy of the Biome Science thread, the pics are already on the biome page. Again, we don't need to yet, but it wouldn't hurt to be prepared. --DStecks 19:09, 5 November 2010 (CDT)

for now, I think it should be left as-is, but I can perform another major split when the time calls for it ^^--Kizzycocoa 00:15, 6 November 2010 (UTC)

I'd be glad to add a picture, but I don't want to waste any of my worlds by editing that java thing to make it a pure-biome map.

ATTACK PAGE

When logged out, I saw an attack page. Admins please see this. Minecraft wiki appears to have been attacked.. Also, my IP was blocked somehow. I had to use a proxy to add this info. I don't know why my IP seems to be shared with the person who added the attack page. Ruan942 13:05, 24 November 2010 (UTC)

it needed deleting/recreating. I fixed it. please report any other pages to me.--Kizzycocoa 07:27, 24 November 2010 (CST)
Uh, are you sure it needed that? Like, using https://minecraft.fandom.com/wiki/Biomes?action=purge a custom action like purge might have fixed the page w/o killing all the history (which I think you should restore, if you can). --JonTheMon 14:56, 24 November 2010 (UTC)
it did. the actual history timeline was courrupted slighlty. it's like a second edit was made after a revert, bot only for users. I saw no other choice.
Can you go to the undelete/delete page and restore older revisions? --JonTheMon 15:05, 24 November 2010 (UTC)
I'll leave it for now. let the attack reports die down/be dealt with. I have no idea what could happen if I undelete it. the error could happen again.--Kizzycocoa 15:07, 24 November 2010 (UTC)
Afaik, you can choose not to undelete the attack/remove attack revisions, just everything before. --JonTheMon 15:09, 24 November 2010 (UTC)

Before biomes

Don't really know how to explain this but here goes...

Before biomes there was only one foliage and grass color. Do any of he current biomes have these colours? So what I'm asking is, has the world before biomes been made into a biome, and if so, which one?

I believe the rain forest uses this shade of green. --SpootKnight 22:28, 27 November 2010 (CST)

No, it's no longer present since the Biomes appeared. Calinou 14:27, 1 April 2011 (UTC)

So what kind of Biome is the terrain generated before the biomes update? Does it also matter if the world was "Winter Mode" or not? Wolves spawn here, so maybe its a forest biome? BlazinH 00:09, 10 April 2011 (UTC)

Wolves never spawn in non-biome worlds, even if iit's a winter map. The old grassy biome is "exclusive". Calinou - talk × contribs » 19:07, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

Strange biome

My friend got Minecraft yesterday,and i was watching him play. When he loaded into a world for first time, he was standing on a small sand island. The another side had water,it was likely an ocean,and the another side was ice. Quite odd IMO--J4ff4c3ks1 09:23, 10 December 2010 (CST)

Nether biome

I dont really understand why people call it a biome, its really just one chunk that was misplaced by the generator.Toadbert

Because Notch considers it as one. Before the Halloween update, Notch announced that there will be eleven biomes in total on his Twitter, causing people to wonder why there are only ten when they play the game. Then, he realizes that eleven was including The Nether. In The Nether, the game will only generate that one kind of biome. --Scykei 10:05, 13 December 2010 (UTC)

Biomes Chart

I just wanted to clarify with everyone here that Notch didn't create the chart he used for determining biomes. I remember learning that exact chart for grade 11 Geography except he's swapped a couple names (otherwise it's identical) Stylius 16:51, 27 December 2010 (UTC)

I would like to add that the charts are not entirely accurate in terms of Minecraft biomes. Using the code from the BiomeGenBase class (MCP name), I produced the following chart. I'll also post the code used to generate the map.

Map of biomes

The x-axis is temperature increasing from left to right (0 to 1), and the y-axis is rainfall increasing from bottom to top (0 to 1).

Colors used:

  • Tundra - 0xFAFAFA
  • Savanaa - 0xE1E1E1
  • Desert - 0xC8C8C8
  • Swampland - 0xAFAFAF
  • Taiga - 0x969696
  • Shrubland - 0x7D7D7D
  • Forest - 0x646464
  • Plains - 0x4B4B4B
  • Seasonal forest - 0x323232
  • Rainforest - 0x191919

--Grinde 21:29, 27 July 2011 (UTC)

Hmm. Where does the Ice Desert biome fit into the code? I am very sure of its existence, and I believe that it is impossible to find in unmodified Minecraft, so there is much less information about it. It does occur at no precipitation and the lowest temperature (tested with the Pheonix Terrain Mod having only modified those two variables). Verhalthur (talk)(contribs) 15:41, 28 July 2011 (UTC)
There is no Ice Desert biome. What you're seeing is a corner case (in the most literal sense of the term) when both temperature and precipitation are 0; otherwise, it's just Tundra (and, indeed, tundra is a type of desert - deserts are determined predominantly by precipitation, not temperature). ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 08:54, 30 July 2011 (UTC)

Reeds & Sugar Cane

Just a heads-up: I went and changed "Reeds" in the Swamp Biome to "Stalks of Sugar Cane" due to the impending newbie swarm whining about "THERE'S NO SUCH ITEM AS A REED WAH WAH" or anything like that. Problem with biome graph

In biomesgraph.png, the second image on the page, the axes would lead the reader to think that in biome triangles, like the one shown on the third image on the page, the temperature and rainfall are mapped out in a 2 dimensional Cartesian coordinate system. Interpreting the graph this way causes problems though, because it is triangular. For example, what biome/color would appear at 0 temperature and 100 rainfall? If you follow the axes as shown, you wind up outside of the triangle. But according to Notch's diagram, the first image on the page, this would be tundra. It seems evident that however temperature and precipitation are mapped to the biome triangle, it is not simply a rectangular coordinate system. Yossage 17:23, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

Biome color file

in this thread is inside information how grass colors and biomes are calculated by temperature and moisture information:

this graphic shows how biome-grass is colored: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/107712/biome-labels.png

the information used to draw the graphic comes from the following code:

this code shows how color information is retrieved

   public static int getGrassColor(double moisture, double temperature) {
     moisture *= temperature;
     int i = (int)((1.0D - temperature) * 255.0D);
     int j = (int)((1.0D - moisture) * 255.0D);
     return biomeGrassColor[(j << 8 | i)];
   }

This code shows how biomes are calculated:

   public static fy getBiomeType(float temperature, float moisture) {
     moisture *= temperature;
     if (temperature < 0.1F)
       return TUNDRA;
     if (moisture < 0.2F) {
       if (temperature < 0.5F)
         return TUNDRA;
       if (temperature < 0.95F) {
         return SAVANNA;
       }
       return DESERT;
     }
     if ((moisture > 0.5F) && (temperature < 0.7F))
       return SWAMPLAND;
     if (temperature < 0.5F)
       return TAIGA;
     if (temperature < 0.97F) {
       if (moisture < 0.35F) {
         return SHRUBLAND;
       }
       return FOREST;
     }

     if (moisture < 0.45F)
       return PLAINS;
     if (moisture < 0.9F) {
       return SEASONAL_FOREST;
     }
     return RAINFOREST;
   }

i’m sure we should put SOME of this information in. – Flying sheep 18:36, 15 May 2011 (UTC)

You could likely but information on the fact that there are two requirements for deciding what biome type is created, e.g. moisture and tempurature. No clue as to how to work that in, however I'd discourage putting actual code into the main wiki pages. Darkid 18:42, 15 May 2011 (UTC)

Trees per chunk as compared to woods

Some biome descriptions are listed as being +2 or +5 trees per chuck as compared to woods. The picture for woods is taken from above due to the extreme foliage (20 trees per chunk). Thus, it feels unlikely, especially due to the pictures, that these chunks are *more* dense than woods. Is it possible that they should be less dense? If this is not the case, then the pictures should be clarified. (This is specifically referring to the Seasonal Forest and Forest.) Darkid 18:48, 15 May 2011 (UTC)

The nether

I have lost the source a very long time ago but prior to the Halloween Update, Notch mentioned that there were eleven biomes but it turns out that there was only ten. Notch then said the eleventh biome was the terrain type in the Nether. Down there, the game only generates one type of biome right now but future versions of the game, there might be more biomes might be created specifically for the Nether.

So it should be listed somewhere in the article about the current nether being a biome too. --Scykei 05:22, 8 July 2011 (UTC)

Moving your world save out of a biome using a map editor?

Hey guys my favorite world got hit by some stupid blizzard when biomes were first added which really sucks -.- I did my best downloading a map editor (MCedit) and successfully removing all of the snow. I tried it with the ice however and at first it worked but as soon as I logged into my world it all regenerated.. At a remarkably fast pace! I am so fed up with this ice and it was suggested to me that I move my save out of the snowy biome. Can someone please tell me how to do this? It would be much appreciated if you could. --Ofgs2 12:44, 12 July 2011 (UTC)

Biomes are generated on-the-fly from your map's seed, so the only way to change biomes is to change the seed. If you're looking to move your base, you'll just have to experiment with the various selection tools in whatever map editor you're using; anything underground (particularly if it's built into existing caves) will probably have to be left in place, though. ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 01:12, 20 July 2011 (UTC)

Changing biome

So, after our server crashed twice in a row, it appeared that some chunks' biome changed from desert or rainforest to snowy biomes. That was pretty good news to us, since we like snow better than rain, until we realized the ice was spreading really far and transformed our tropical-like ocean to a nordic sea, covered in frozen water. Ah well.

It's most certainly due to a bug, but I thought it was interesting enough to be said, as "It can happen, guys. It happened for me.", or something like that. Linkyu 21:02, 15 July 2011 (UTC)

Sounds like the seed got reset on the map. You can use a map editor to change it back, assuming you know what the original seed was or have a pre-crash backup of the level.dat file you can get the seed from, but there's no way to prevent the ocean from freezing other than that. ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 01:09, 20 July 2011 (UTC)

Change in Biomes?!

In a server I play in, I built my house in a forest with the bright green grass of forest biomes. Recently, the grass has turned into the ugly savannah color. All the trees have been cut down in that area though, could that cause a biome to change? As with all servers, we see chunk loading errors A LOT. So could that be the cause of a biome change? Everything we built is still there, it's only the grass, and the lack of wolves that changed. --Thek826 15:28, 2 September 2011 (UTC)

Also, someone had drained out all the ponds in that area, and rain gets turned off quickly by moderators and admins because it causes lag. Could a lack of moisture return a forest into savannah? --Thek826 15:30, 2 September 2011 (UTC)

Biomes are generated on-the-fly by the game based on the map seed; no modifications done in-game can change a given area's biome (so you could, for example, fill a snowy biome with lava, and it would still snow in that biome and water exposed to the sky (given enough distance from other sources of light) would still freeze). More than likely, the map seed was reset (this is a known bug that happens a lot on server maps). ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 19:13, 2 September 2011 (UTC)

Should oceans be listed on the biomes page?

With the upcoming patch, oceans will be much larger. With that in mind, should oceans be listed under Biome Types? Either way. I believe oceans and rivers on that page should be a tad more prominent.

Oceans are already mentioned in the trivia section as an upcoming biome in 1.8. There's no reason for them to not be added to the official list when the update comes out. - Shadowx4ffc 00:54, 4 September 2011 (UTC)

Lack of Old Biomes in 1.8

I think I know why the most of the old biomes (Rainforests, Tundra, Taiga, ect) are absent from the 1.8 leak. Mojang is creating a totally new biome code, so they must have scrapped the current one, along with all the biomes, to create the new one. So far, they must have only recreated Deserts, forests, and plains, whilst adding the new biomes; Mountain, Swamp, Ocean, and the snowless taiga biome. The old ones will probably be reintroduced later. Liquid Ink 09:02, 12 September 2011 (UTC)

I thought so too (because Notch said there would be 6 biomes in 1.8) but i didn't want to overhaul the biome page because it would have been far to large an edit than I'm capable of... --HexZyle 04:30, 14 September 2011 (UTC)
Some people won't update to 1.8 so it might be a good idea to have a section for the old biomes. -- AzemOcram 03:23, 15 September 2011 (UTC)
Yes Mojang only released the 6 biomes that were completed by the time 1.8 was released. The other 6 biomes will be added in 1.9 (along with the mushroom biome) so restoring the older list of biomes would be a good idea. --Delta64 15:15, 16 September 2011 (UTC)

Mob Spawning by biome

In several newly created 1.8 worlds, I've noticed that I tended to find a lot of chickens in the mountains, and a lot of sheep in the grasslands. Is there any alteration to the mob spawning code that gives certain mobs spawning preferences in certain biomes? Or am I simply strangely lucky? Faren22 05:50, 20 September 2011 (UTC)

Mushroom Biomes in 1.9

Are mushroom biomes ultra-freaking rare or is it just me? I explored a radius of over 2000 metres from the spawn point and found nothing.

They are EXTREMELY rare and are only spawned on specific mushroom islands in the middle of oceans. I had to Google a seed (4504911559719506496) and coordinates (X: 520, Z: -470) to find one. Verhalthur (talk)(contribs) 02:32, 23 September 2011 (UTC)

They are very rare but don't only spawn on islands. I've generated a few test worlds now and one of them had a mushroom biome bordered by desert.

One note for Mushroom biomes: I'm currently playing around in one and noticed that hostile mobs *will* spawn normally on structures that I place in the biome. I think that normal spawning is disabled for the natural terrain (including underground in the biome), but as soon as you add something to the area you can get spawns. I believe this is why you also can grow trees in the biome after placing blocks. More research is needed before the article is updated, however. DgnBiscuit 19:43, 2 December 2011 (UTC)

Played the map again and I think it's fixed. --68.123.152.155 11:56, 7 October 2011 (UTC)

The Shooting Star reference?

I've registered to this great wiki to point out something: are the Mushrooms Biomes a reference to The Adventures of Tintin: The Shooting Star [1]? See [2] or [3]. To me, there's almost no doubt. You can realise better if you actually read the comic. Plus it might have something to do with the release of the movie...--Loadingue 11:16, 24 September 2011 (UTC)

I rather doubt it. At any rate, regardless of how certain you are, it's speculation unless Notch or Jeb explicitly confirm it. ディノ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 02:42, 26 September 2011 (UTC)

Mountains

The new mountains are dull and booring, they require some trees and foliage. They should occur in every biome except swamp.

NPC Villages?

Didn't Notch say he would make them their own separate biome? If they are defined as such in the code, why is there no NPC Village biome on the page? Verhalthur (talk)(contribs) 20:13, 25 September 2011 (UTC)

Villages are considered as natural generated structures, like strongholds or abandoned mine shafts and only generate on flat surfaces. You can take for example that picture of a village generated on the border between an ocean biome and a grassland (also quite a rare curiosity).--Pauolo 22:24, 29 September 2011 (UTC)
Definitely an interesting seed. I hope RusskayaZemlya has it saved somewhere. Anyway, it seems similar to the Mushroom biome in that it is not dependent on temperature or rainfall to generate. The wiki may have put them as naturally generated structures, but they are likely defined in the code as a biome (I am not a code guy), and if so, should be added to the page. Actual Biome names

I'm certain that the names on the article right now are not the actual biome name-strings used internally. This could confuse programmers. Grabbing the strings out of vh.class from v1.8.1, I found these biome names:

  • Desert, Extreme Hills, Forest, Hell, Ocean, Plains, River, Swampland, Taiga

--Mozai 04:29, 2 October 2011 (UTC)

That is correct. Changing the page to match would be advisable --HexZyle 06:28, 2 October 2011 (UTC)
Biome names have changed over the versions, so the old pictures are not necessarily represented correctly by the new names. --Wizjany 06:42, 2 October 2011 (UTC)
Biome code has been completely revamped. "Old Pictures" means old outdated images of what biomes there were before the biome update, and are therefore obselete. (Plains biome in 1.8 has almost no relation to Plains biome before 1.8) --HexZyle 06:56, 2 October 2011 (UTC)

I added Extreme Hills, Plains, and Swampland. Ocean and Desert were already there, but what are Forest, Hell, River, and Taiga? My best guesses are: Forest is Pine Forest, River is Mixed Forest, and Taiga is Tundra, and Hell is the Mushroom biome. I could be wrong, seeing as Hell would most likely be the Nether, seeing as River would most likely be a river. Can anyone look farther into the code to see what spawns in these Biomes? We could figure it out that way. 50.132.2.24 01:13, 9 October 2011 (UTC)

I count 20

I have found out 20 different biomes.–The preceding unsigned comment was added by 124.179.149.234 (Talk) Please sign your posts with ~~~~

  • Rainforest
  • Mixed Forest
  • Seasonal Forest
  • Pine Forest
  • Swampland
  • Extreme Hills
  • Desert
  • Grass Desert
  • Plains
  • Shrubland
  • Savanna
  • Ocean
  • Tundra
  • Taiga
  • Woods
  • Hell/Nether
  • Ice Desert
  • Cave/Cavern (Yes this IS a biome in real life).
  • Ravine (And so IS this one).
  • Mushroom Land
Biomes are defined in the code, not in real life. Therefore, Caves and Ravines are generated features. Many of the others do no appear in Minecraft at all anymore, ie. Rainforest, Seasonal Forest, Grass Desert, Shrubland, Savanna, Taiga, Wood (That was never a biome anyway), and Ice Desert, which was never generate-able without mods. Verhalthur (talk)(contribs) 11:51, 6 October 2011 (UTC)
Ice-desert? Please do explain :D --HexZyle 01:33, 8 October 2011 (UTC)
The Ice Desert was a biome in the code before 1.8 that was generated at maximum coldness and dryness. It was sand with snow on top of it and had snowfall and ice. Not too exciting. :T Verhalthur (talk)(contribs) 01:41, 8 October 2011 (UTC)

Can mobs spawn UNDER Mushroom Biomes?

Just curious.

A biome reaches from sky limit to bedrock. That is why on multiplayer if you are digging under at bedrock level sometimes the blocks keep appearing because you are attempting to dig underneath the spawn chunk. (which is protected against any non-OPs) Whether non Mushroom mobs can spawn on grass blocks in mushroom biomes and Mooshrooms can spawn on mycelium outside mushroom biomes is yet to be discovered. --HexZyle 04:25, 10 October 2011 (UTC)

Biome Science

This thread appears to be removed from the forum. So, the link to it is useless. Should it be removed or does anyone know another location for the information? I've tried searching and can't find it anywhere. Zer0ce 03:43, 11 October 2011 (UTC)

No more spawning on beaches?

I've seen more recent ideos and spawned some new worlds, and I haven't spawned on any beaches like in old times. I mostly just land in a stupid swamp, pine, and grassland mix and I cant find any good mountains. Also, how come it's uncommon now to spawn in a place that's relatively clear and flat, but has several cliffs and trees dotting the land? I find it extremely hard to find any of this type of land, though it was much more common before the adventure update.–Preceding unsigned comment was added by 66.153.160.150 (Talk) 21:08, 17 October 2011. Did Notch make a big mistake with the Biome-Code?

The 1.7 World-Gen was:

  • More interesting
  • Mixed
  • Realistic

...and much more...

i really hate 1.8 Biomes, and i think many others do. The whole Adventure-Update made an awesome indie-game to a boring adventure-game! Notch, please mix the biomes again, use the old Biome-Gen and even more Improve it if you want, but that's such a big mistake! Notch, why would anyone play that? –Preceding unsigned comment was added by Riegel2222 (Talk|Contribs) . Please sign your posts with ~~~~

I agree, mostly I just find dull pine forests and endless stretches of grassland. Seriously, what was he thinking?

No mention of removal from 1.7 to 1.8

There seems to be no mention of the removal/replacement of a lot of biomes in the 1.8 "adventure" update (not on this page nor the version history (also posted there)), nor why they were removed. I have not taken up writing it myself as I do not have sufficient knowlege. Personally, although this is rather insignificantly on such a website, I miss them, and feel it was a mistake that they were removed. Kris159 17:41, 31 October 2011 (UTC)

I don't know enough about the biomes either in 1.7 to write up an article on them, but also neither do many other people. The wiki is a collaborative work of a community of people, if you step out and be courageous and start the section with as much info as you know on it, we'll all contribute and make it better. And no, it wasn't insignificant, it was a large part of the pre-1.8 game. --HexZyle 02:22, 1 November 2011 (UTC)
Alright I have started the page at Pre-Adventure Update Biomes. Deletion of notable information is one of the worst things that can happen on wikis, and I do not want information to disappear or be deleted. We should ALWAYS document the history of events, and changes such as this (the biomes in MC) can be documented in an individual page to prevent the loss/forgetting of notable information (which is never a good thing). Next time whenever any person sees something like this happening, please create a new page to document it and the history. It doesn't matter how less info is on there; all that matters is that the info gets transcribed to a stable place, so you can even copy-paste it just to preserve the info. - Asterick6 09:43, 4 November 2011 (UTC)

Artificial Biomes

Should we write a section on 'biomes' made by players? They have their own features that distinguish from other biomes. For example, grasslands where there is only one block of grass, then underneath is sand or water. This doesn't spawn naturally, but are made by players. This could feature in a "SMP Biome" section, as then players will know where a biome is generated or artificial (and thus where they may encounter cleverly hidden traps). Grind3r 13:47, 5 November 2011 (UTC)

Sorry, I don't think these kinds of pages are for player-created content. For player-created content, please use the Tutorials section or something. - Asterick6 02:18, 8 November 2011 (UTC)

Seasons in Biomes

Would be pretty cool to have seasons, to affect crops, weather, mobs (neutral and monsters), etc.

New biome color scheme

I noticed that after 1.8 the game changed the way it picks colors from grasscolor.png and foliagecolor.png so I tried until I found how. I made a new example graph, you can find it here: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/786656-biome-colors-graph-for-18/

If it's ok I could include it in this page, it should be very useful for texture pack makers (as I am).--Wedhro 23:34, 13 November 2011 (UTC)

mixeed biomes?

so i made this world of my little brother. inside the world it seems before 1.0.0 he was in a pine forest/ taiga biome. so it was all good. then 1.0.0 came up and all of the sudden it snows half the time. now everything is under snow! i am aware that in 1.8 snow biomes stopped producing snow but the problem here is that it is not a snow biome it looks more like the pine forest biome on the biome page of this wiki. which that is exactly what it is but with snow falling! so i would like to know if this is a glitch or if snow does fall in taiga biomes. now that i did a little more exploring in his world i have noticed that there is a long river running through it which is all covered in ice. which i am not sure if rivers should spawn in a snowy biome. and then i went more down the river and i encounter a swamp biome! and guess what. it was covered in snow. o yeah a signature. well i have no idea how to officially add one or what i should put for one but my ingame name is " MrAwesomeLuis
