Conditions to spawn bats in a house?
Has anybody tested how big a room must be for the game to think of it as a cave, which would enable bat spawning? I'm playing with the though of getting myself bats into one of my cellars...--137.226.158.159 12:18, 21 September 2012 (UTC)
- I've messed with this as well. I have yet to see a bat spawn in a player-made structure. I would also like to know if there's a light level requirement. --Kanegasi ☺C 13:11, 21 September 2012 (UTC)
- Mine is 21 on 15 and 3 high. It seems the light level has an limiting effect, since one spawned in a then unlit part of the room (lower than light level 9 or 8), after I placed torches no new bats spawned... i think i'll test it again 94.221.222.44 16:19, 23 September 2012 (UTC)
ruining mob spawners
how could these break mobspawners? 205.188.116.210 21:08, 21 September 2012 (UTC)
- I'm not entirely sure what was meant by this, the only thing I can think of is that they are a drop-less and difficult to grind mob, which will reduce the area in which hostiles can spawn (as they cant spawn overlapping another entity) though this effect would seem incredibly minor at most Cultist O 21:17, 21 September 2012 (UTC)
- Spawners will not spawn another mob if there are already a certain maximum number of the mob in the immediate area. Maybe the bats count towards reaching that maximum? 70.89.140.153 21:27, 21 September 2012 (UTC)
- That would be interesting, but we really haven't seen any evidence of that so far. I think it is likely that the implication of grinder-nerfing came out of misunderstanding or wild speculation. It might be worth a bit more digging before we dismiss the idea though. Cultist O 23:12, 21 September 2012 (UTC)
- I've removed it for now since there is no evidence that the mob was made to intentionally do that. For editors: Either test it and verify before adding, or don't add speculation/trivia into the article at all. --M0rphzone(talk) (*How to remove sidebar*) 00:52, 22 September 2012 (UTC)
- Mob spawners only check for nearby mobs of the type they spawn. However, a large number of other mobs can prevent it from finding enough clear space to spawn anything. Bats, being small and often on the ceiling, probably won't cause that sort of interference. -- Orthotope 08:22, 22 September 2012 (UTC)

Farmland
Bats seem to revert farmland back to dirt. One spawned in my farming cellar and messed up 10 or so blocks until i got it ... 94.221.222.44 16:14, 23 September 2012 (UTC)
Spawn in caves?
I've never seen a bat spawn naturally (and I am on the snapshot.) How big does the cave have to be before one spawns? yoshidude56 16:27, 23 September 2012 (UTC)
- They've spawned in every cave I've seen so far. Even in quite small ones. --☺ Sven ? ! 18:24, 23 September 2012 (UTC)
- Can anybody check the game code? --87.102.84.99 17:58, 24 September 2012 (UTC)
