Sugar is a food item derived from sugar cane. Sugar is a necessary component in the cake crafting recipe. Since sugar cane is hard to find in some biomes, this makes the cake harder to craft. Sugar cane farming makes it easier to craft the cake. Neither sugar nor sugar cane can be eaten by themselves. Besides crafting, sugar is also used in brewing to make potions with speed effects.

Trivia

File:2011-10-10 19.31.01.png

Sugar looks bigger in third person perspective.

  • Sugar was oddly large from third person or other players view in multiplayer. It also appeared to be held from a different angle than other powder-like items such as Gunpowder and Redstone Dust. This is due to a programming error, which specifies that sugar should be wielded as a "tool" in third person. This error was shared by the Eye of Ender.
