Sticks are created by placing two wooden planks in a crafting square, one above the other. 32 wooden planks or 8 wood blocks will create a full stack of sticks.

Uses

Sticks are used primarily as the handles for tools, torches, and weapons. They can also be used as the shaft of arrows, the post for signs or the ties of rails. Sticks are the only building material required to craft a fence or ladder.

Sticks can also be used as a fuel source for furnaces. Though they are renewable, sticks are a less efficient fuel than wooden planks, and require 2 sticks to be burned per furnace operation. Sticks are recommended for short jobs, like cooking pork, or if just a little more fuel is required to complete the current operation, and it would not complete otherwise. Note that it takes 3 sticks to be equal to a wooden plank being smelted. It is not recommended to smelt sticks if they have just been crafted, since the two planks used can burn for 30 seconds (three smelting operations), while the four sticks created burn for 20 seconds (two smelting operations).

When making ladders you can (with a stack of 64) place 9 in each slot in the required pattern and have 1 left over. Also when making fences with a full stack there will be 11 in 4 slots and 10 in 2 others.

Cookies are food items that can be obtained in large quantities, but do not restore hunger or saturation significantly.

Obtaining
Trading
Journeyman-level farmer villagers sell 18 cookies for 3 emeralds as part of their trades.

Crafting
Villager gifts
java, if the player has the Hero of the Village effect, a farmer villager may gift them a cookie.

Usage
Food
To eat a cookie, press and hold use while it is selected in the hotbar. Eating one restores 2 hunger and 0.4 hunger
saturation.

Parrots
Feeding a cookie to a parrot kills the parrot instantly, and causes it to give off Poison particles as it dies due to chocolate being toxic to parrots.
Bedrock, feeding a cookie to a parrot inflicts the parrot with Fatal Poison for 1,000 seconds.

Composting
Placing a cookie into a composter has an 85% chance of raising the compost level by 1.

Considering the high yield of cookies (8 cookies from 1 cocoa bean and 2 wheats) and the higher chance to successfully compost a cookie (85%), it is more efficient to craft cookies to compost rather than using separate ingredients. For example, 100 wheats and 50 cocoa beans, which in total could yield only 13.92 bone meal on average, could be crafted into 400 cookies to yield 48.57 bone meal on average.
